Okay, so I've been working on a possible episode count per release. Help me out here. I used Kanzentai's amazing Dragonbox guides' as a...guide.

SET 1: 42 Episodes (1-42) (Dragonbox 1 Discs 1-7)

This one is set in stone. We end this set with Bulma, Kuririn and Gohan landing on Namek and Vegeta recovering from his battle on Earth. Good place to end a set I'd say.

SET 2: 42 Episodes (43-84) (Dragonbox 1 Discs 8-14)

It looks like the 42 episodes per set will stay pretty consistent throughout the releases. Oddly enough, it seems that every 42 episodes, we get a great cliffhanger episode that really keeps the viewer anticipating the next episode. In other words, perfect episodes to end a DVD set with  This time, we end the set with Freeza transforming into his final form and killing Dende. I personally would have preferred the set ending with the next episode (Goku recovers) or the episode after (Vegeta dies), but that would be going into the next DBOX disc, and it seems like that's not what FUNi is going for ("We're not changing a damn thing!").

Now, here's a big question. The Bardock special aired after episode 63 in Japan. Will we be getting the special with this set? I personally think it would make the most sense. If not now, it would probably be released with a bonus disc at the end of the series. According to my calculations, Set 4 would contain discs from both the first and second DBOX, so there's probably no way we'd get a couple of Android saga episodes, then a random bonus disc featuring the Bardock special. I'm hoping it either comes with this set, or perhaps comes with a disc released at the end of the series containing the Bardock special, Trunks special and the Playdia special (fuck yeah I went there).

SET 3: 42 Episodes (85-126) (Dragonbox 1 Discs 15-21)

This is where it looks like the whole idea of separating story arcs may have to get thrown out the window in order for these DVD sets to work. In this set, we're getting the rest of the Freeza arc, the Garlic Jr. arc, the Trunks vs. Freeza fight, the Driving School episode (YES!!), and the very first episode after the time skip. I think that's a pretty good place to end the set. As far as I remember, we don't get a glimpse of the Androids until the next episode.

SET 4: 39 Episodes (127-165) (Dragonbox 1 Discs 22-25/ Dragonbox 2 Discs 1-3)

z0mg 39 eps!??1? How dare you FUNi! Unfortunately, this set was the one that had to have a couple less episodes in order for every other set to have 42 episodes. No big deal. It certainly would be nice if the Trunks special could be thrown in, but considering it aired after episode 175, there's a slim chance of it being in this set.

The set goes through the entire Jinzoningen and Cell sagas, ending with the fight against 'roid rage Trunks. I forget if Cell announces the Cell Games in that episode, as the title reads "Cell, A Shocking Bombshell Declaration". Nonetheless, it's a pretty good place to end the set.

SET 5: 42 Episodes (166-207) (Dragonbox 2 Discs 4-10)

Once again, the idea of story arcs gets pretty crazy in this set, more than in the third set. We would be getting the Cell Games, the Anoyoichi Budokai stuff and THE FUCKING TIME JUMP/NEW OP. Yes, the first four episodes of Disc 9 have Head Cha La, while the last two jump to We Gotta Power. I really would have thought that they'd put the time jump on a separate disc, but this is the way that it works out. So be it.

The set ends with Gohan teaching Videl how to fly, the episode before Goku returns to Earth.

We face the same problem with this set as the second set. Will we be getting the Trunks special with this set? It would make sense, but who knows.

SET 6: 42 Episodes (208-249) (Dragonbox 2 Discs 11-17)

Pretty solid set. Ends with Goku returning to the other world and Gohan training with the Z sword. Pretty much allows the next set to start with the Fusion saga.

SET 7: 42 Episodes (250-291) (Dragonbox 2 Discs 18-24)

And this is the end.

Pretty much the only thing that needs to be noted is the special features. 1 bonus disc from the first DBOX and 2 from the second make 3 total. They include stuff like the TV specials, the Playdia special, and other promotional videos. Would we be getting them with this final set? Or would the contents be spread across the various releases? I personally would love to see the TV specials inserted next to the episodes they originally aired after. I'd die of laughter if they put the Playdia special during that week before the Cell Games.

So, what does everyone think? I think it looks about right. FUNi really needs to do the 7 disc thing to make this perfect

Wait, have those been announced yet?!
Not yet, but they did it on Hokuto no Ken so I'm expecting it. :)
Has Hokuto no Ken been annoucned for a HD release? I thought it was only DVD's.

Has it been posted than an HD screen shot of the menu has been released?

Seems to be just like the original. :D

Also seems to be in Spanish. Specifically, for some Spanish version of the DragonBall Box, not FUNi's upcoming Z Box.

How cunningly observant of you.... I, personally, would have never noticed.

In any event, I hope FUNi ends up leaving that menu in, at least as an option. After all, we wouldn't want our Spanish fans living in America to feel left out, would we?

In other news, FUNi still has not updated their Twitter after the following update made yesterday: "I wanna say Original score only but let me doublecheck." This may be something that has not been finalized yet.

Well I'm glad story arcs have been thrown out for the most part. I always thought Funi's "sagas" concept to be a little weird.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

With the menus, I hope Funi keeps the scouter menu, but do like the French boxset did and make it different enough from the Japanese version to be able to tell that it's their's.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Perhaps you aren't taking it literally enough. Maybe it even has R2 region encoding. :o

I wish they would keep it for regions 1, 2 & 4 like they used to.

I was browsing some Anime DVDs in my regulerly visited DVD shop (the only place I get my anime DVDs), and I found FUNimation's One Piece releases, but it was region 1 only!

I was totally upset... right after I find the offecial releases of one of the best animes, dubbed and released by the best dubbing company in the world... I get crushed by the #$%! region coding

DVD players are so cheap, why not just get a region 1 player or de-region your current one? Alas, I guess that we can't all be so lucky as to natively have region 1. 8) Also, coreect me if I'm wrong, but don't pc optical drives not look at region?

Like you said, we can't all be so lucky.

And no, PCs & Laptops nowadays are given a limited time to change region codes... unless it's a different matter in the US...!!

---

Do you think MADMAN will release the Dragon Box in Austraila? Not that I care... since MADMAN releases are now region 4 only unlike the old releases that was 4 and 2. like what my Movie 8 single and GT volume 1 says.

If they do release the Dragon Box in Australia, I think that it could be a while. Japan tried to keep them under-wraps, so i don't see them distributing them all over the globe so easily.

They could add Bardock to Set 2 and the last 2 episodes of That set go to set 3 and the last to eps of that go to 4. The first ep of Set 5 goes to Set 4 allowing a decent amount of space for Trunks.

And I believe that you can use DVD Decrypter to change a DVD's region, although I'm probably just misunderstanding things,

Not the region of the actually disc, but I think you can choose between encoding the video in NTSC or PAL.

You can't re-encode a DVD after it's already been finalized and encoded. What that probably does is decrypt the DVD onto your hard drive with out a region lock or specified region code and can thus be reburned to another DVD in said region.
