With the amount of $$$ BOG made it's not to out there to think the sequel will be 15 minutes longer.
One Piece Strong World made even more money but the sequel was 8 minutes shorter than it. It'd also be 35 minutes longer than BoG's theatrical version. Not impossible but I really don't see it and certainly won't pay it any mind at this point.
Didn't the movie not even make their goal though?
It made exactly their goal in the end. Which was 3 billion Yen.
Given the movie probably didn't even cost $1,000,000 to make it is safe to say the film made quite a lot of actual profit.
It would have made a huge amount of profit, obviously that's why they're doing a sequel but it would have cost a lot more than $1 million. Not including the advertising either.

Pilaf and co. appear at the start of Movie 3, if I recall correctly.
He's talking about majin boo and pilaf and gang appearing at the SAME TIME
You sure? I don't see anything in his post that would indicate that this is the case, but then again, there's nothing that says it isn't, other than the fact that it's a weird thing to point out given that it's the first time that, say...Videl and Pilaf appear together for the first time, or Vegeta and Pilaf. Oh well, perhaps the original poster can clarify. :)

By the way, has anyone found another site that supports these supposed new details? Funnily enough, they'd been sitting unnoticed on that page for six days now. I noticed JulieYBM retweeted a blog entry with the same information, but it just links back to that original site. Has anyone done any investigating on that site, by the way? It actually looks rather promising, but these details could very easily be a simple mistake, and to me, that feels a bit more likely.

Yeah, I meant to mention that here. The blog entry on Yaraon simply cites the prior website.

Quite. An expense often not considered is that of the voice acting talent, who not only are amongst some of the most experienced and sought-after Seiyu in Japan, but also have voiced the characters for such a long period of time that recasting them would prove controversial with the fandom, which in turn puts their agents in a position of power when negotiating a fee for their services.

Truth be told, the high expense involved in rehiring the original cast for Dragonball probably contributes to corner cutting in other departments.

The original voice actors or nice animation is a terrible choice to choose between, I don't think I could do it.
And then I partly think that even if they were to use cheaper actors and actresses they'd still not shell out for nice animation.

And if everyone's over at HaCha, we're still not missing much because outside of the movie, HaCha looks so much more cheaply made than its predecessors, imo. I'd wager HappinessCharge is the cheapest precure series Toei's ever made.

The finished runtime obviously shouldn be determined yet, but they should have an estimate based on their storyboard. We know they did this last time with Yamamuro's statements on how long the film was supposed to be and the content they had to cut. Like I said though, why this information would be given out before we even have a title (especially when it wouldn't be definite) is more of the question. So it's either a leak that could be prone to change, or they're just making it up.

120 minutes seems too good to be true. Still isn't the right time to get hype.

I didn't mean at the same time. I complete forgot pilaf gang appeared in movie 3 even though it was just for 3 minutes at max. :P

120 minute runtime supposedly for the 2015 Dragon Ball Z movie?

Hmm... I mixed feelings about this.

While a longer runtime would be great for having more time develop a good plot or characters, or as Toriyama hinted, increase the time for action and fight scenes, it could also mean there could be a lot of pointless filler, like in Battle Of Gods. I'm just hoping the latter is true.

I was just thinking the same thing, if it's just pointless filler stuff that really adds nothing to the story I prefer they keep it shorter.

Filler + Mangaka doesn't exist.
But its not necessary for every character to appear. Increasing the fight scenes by a good deal will make a better a combo between comedy and action.

While I was unexpectedly entertained by Pilaf Gang, I really could go without them the next time around because I feel they used up too much time. But it's all subjective, because I also loved the 'desu' bit with Gokû.
I get why they would choose to leave some action scenes on the floor--because those are more expensive to animate, but I still would've liked to have seen them.

In the end, all I want is a good movie.
A good balance of action and comedy is all i'm looking for.

I would love again some cameo from the original series!
It ties it well together as I never was a fan of the DB and DBZ split.
I also enjoyed the cameo of Tao Pai Pai in Cell arc.
FighterZ, Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat: Funky_Strudel
PS5: Dynamixx88
Trust me, I'm millenial and a designer.

It would be a terrible shame if Pilaf, Shuu, and Mai were not in the film. The pairing of Trunks and Mai is so left field it begs to be expanded upon. After nearly twenty years of thinking we know 'everything' about Dragon Ball there is suddenly something like this that completely changes our world. It would be a shame if this subplot was abandoned instead of becoming just as much a element of the franchise as anything from the original comic.

I didn't dislike them; in fact they led to some really entertaining stuff. I just, I don't want to rehash the 2008 special a second time with slight shuffling (because as much as I enjoyed BOG, the whole "we're having a party, here's everyone" even 5 years out from "Ossu!" I still felt enough similarities) and I feel like at least they can't do "big party at whoever's house" a third time, not so soon on the tail of BOG anyway.

I don't really think there's much chance that it'll be 2 hours long, maybe in the Uncut edition, but even then... :?

Are there even that many anime movies that are a legit 120 minutes long?

Several recap movies are over two hours long. Uchuu Show e Youkoso was 136 minutes long while also being an original film. Toei Animation has been too busy as of late, so I simply don't expect the film to have enough animators to finish every cut.

Well, ANN posted the listing in their news feed: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/daily-b ... -25/.80905
I wish they'd have waited for confirmation as to if this listing is legit or not, but at least they mention the 120 as a likely placeholder run-time.

There's always a chance for some of the storyboard to be outsourced to other animators to work with director Yamamuro. Given how busy Toei Animation has been lately, it's not out of question that Tadayoshi Yamamuro sought out other key animators outside the company. My only concern is that if director Yamamuro supervises them, it most likely would mean the decline of quality animation, but if he manages to find good key animators, that'd be good. Even if good key animators rush a bit, they at least know how to draw good cuts, like Shida Natoshi did in Battle of Gods.
