Toyotaro didn't include Gohans training, or so the majority of Freeza's recruitment, because those were things that didn't need to be shown at length. Basically, Toyotaro in the most recent chapter cut out all parts of the recruitment that would cause the story to meander around.
I wonder if he is going to off-screen lots of eliminations in this tournament or not. I prefer he shows the fights he thinks are important to show.
Likewise, we don't need to see literally every single warrior get eliminated, and also, not every single warrior needs to fight Universe 7.
I mean things like episode 88 was needed to give Gohan character development and Freeza's recruitment in an important plot point as well.
Things like episode 90 and the assasin subplot were what was uneeded.
We need to see every single warrior eliminated or else whats the point of being 80 characters in there?Even a single panel of their elimination will do.
I agree that not every single warrior needs to fight Universe 7.

The dialogue in the chapter suggested that, since they talked about how fighters from other universes might knock each other out and they should only face the ones going after them.

There are 80 warriors because there are 8 teams with 10 warriors, but I think the idea that every elimination or battle needs to be shown is a mistake. YuYu Hakusho's Dark Tournament is probably the best tournament arc I've ever watched, and it only followed the battles of the protagonist team and a couple of the main antagonists. What's more important is to make the battles that are shown actually count and give character moments to everyone in the protagonist team, something the anime failed to do.

The Dark Tournament is not a valid comparison since its a team tournament not a battle royale.
Since the plot of this arc is the battle royale, people being knocked out is what advances the plot, doing of screen eliminations or multiple characters being knocked out without even fighting makes the concept of a 80 person battle royale pointless.
We don't need to see every battle(althought that would be ideal in a battle royale scenario)but one panel of their elimination should be the minimum we should get in a battle royale situation like this.
I mean even in the dragonball/z tournaments we saw the main cast beating the non ki users.

Either way, you've got a defined list of competitors facing each other up to the last one standing. The only difference here is that we shouldn't get entire teams eliminated off screen, but it's perfectly acceptable for some of the fighters to be eliminated without any focus at all.

But even the DB tournament skipped the preliminaries with a couple of exceptions and only focused on the top 16.
I think there only going to show big eliminations by chars they hyped up. I don't think we're going to see every elimination, that will take way 2 long and make this boring.
Chars we will see get eliminated
All U7 chars sans goku (who wins the tournament)
All U6 chars
Ribrianne and her love triangle of friends
anairaza (the fake hatchiyack)
All of the pride troopers
and probably a few more

Power levels are not just big numbers:
Spoiler:
Power levels establish tension and drama. People who care about them (well, people who care about them in a narrative) don't care about the big numbers or the fancy explosions. If you have character A who's so much above character B, who's the main character, you're gonna be left wondering how in the hell character B, the character we're supposed to care and root for, is going to escape the situation or overcome the odds. It makes us emotionally invested.
If character B doesn't escape the situation in a believable way that's consistent with previous events, then that emotional investment is gone. It was pointless tension, pointless drama made just to suck in the viewer. It has no critical value whatsoever. The audience is left believing that the author can just create whatever scenarios he wants and what happens to the characters is decided by whatever the author wants to happen, regardless of the events that happened in the story. Which, in fairness, is what happens, but the audience wants to be fooled. The audience wants to know that the world they're following has rules. That the world they're invested in isn't going to bend to external factors that are irrelevant to them.
An author can do whatever he wants with the characters, that's not false. But the author should also have the responsibility to make sure it fits in cohesively with the other events in the narrative he has created.

I have the same feeling, to be honest. There's just something about Agnlasa and the way he was defeated that made it feel like it was a Toei addition. If Agnlasa is omitted from the manga, I hope No. 17 is given a different MVP finisher and not left hanging without one.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if Kaflo was Toyotarou's idea. Judging by Veget's inclusion in the Trunks arc, we can't really assume what comes from whom anymore.

I've been thinking about this as well. It wouldn't surprise me either.

Kaflo would be to toyotaros idea, as she didn’t appear in the anime. Although I wonder how kaflo would differ from kefla...

He means it could be like Vegetto in the Zamasu arc. He wasn't include originally by Mr.Toriyama but Toyotarõ made the suggestion to add him instead of having Goku and Vegeta vs Merged Zamasu. Not only was the idea accepted but it was also include in the anime.

I know what he means. I was poking fun at his misspelling of Kefla as kaflo.
