That is the point. Movie is made by Toei, Toriyama just assists them. During creation of Battle of Gods, he wasn't even the one who wrote the initial script, it was Yusuke Watanabe, and FnF is supposed to be its follow-up, so it doesn't look to me as being in part of manga continuity, to be honest. Though I guess we should just disagree here. I don't see anything as being a part of manga continuity, unless it is clearly stated by author, or it is in manga form. So as for now I see it as a part of anime continuity, instead of manga's one.

Fair enough, but keep in mind that Toriyama is not lying: he doesn't say "as if I had written the continuation of the manga BACK THEN", he says "as if I was writing the continuation of the manga" (right now).

Which involves being able to cover ideas that went from his current cat to the original scriptwriter ideas so heavily modified that it was basically stated that it's pretty much a Toriyama story.
So it's as if the scriptwriting had stop and they asked Toriyama "okay, this is what we were going to do, but can you instead continue the manga?". That's how he considers it, as if asked to continue the manga.
That's what Toriyama means by "as if continuing the manga", it's not what it would have been like back then, it's what it would be like right now ("right now" being whenever he decides to start writing the next movie, getting his ideas from a song, from a cat or from a previous scriptwriter's ideas).

By that logic every arc prior to the Saiyan arc is just one big saga. Which it isn't.

What? Nobody sees it that way and its clear how Red Ribbon and Piccolo sagas are different.

Vegeta was never a secondary character. He was a main character from the get-go and stayed that way. And Krillin's character development ended all the way in Dragon Ball.

I never said Vegeta was secondary. And lol @ failing to notice Krillin's developement until Boo arc. What exactly are you arguing really? That all of DB & DBZ was on equal quality level? No it wasn't, and BOG (or ROF as it appears) ain't perfect no matter how much u wished it would be. Being a fan doesn't mean you have to convince yourself every new movie/OVA/chapter is perfect

This is as if you were watching the Cell saga as movies and bitched because Vegeta just killed C-19. "What was the point of bringing that supposedly fearsome enemy just to have him die so soon?"
This is as if you were watching the Freezer saga as movies and bitched because Raditz was killed in one fight. "What was the point of bringing that supposedly fearsome enemy just to have him die so soon?"
This is as if you were watching the whole fight against Freezer on Namek. "It's all action, no plot development, no universe-expanding info, what the hell?"
The point was the plot wanted by Toriyama which has yet a lot to unfold. Period.
The only difference is that Toriyama wants to remain free to invent the next threat in due time, so he doesn't announce the next enemy so as to not be prisonner of that idea in one year from now, he just has a bad guy vaguely stating "everything went according to plan", just enough to make you see - in case this wasn't already obvious enough through his repeated statements - "just like in the manga arcs, there's something bigger coming, this was not the main event of the new saga".

And if continuing the manga, Toriyama would not go from "here are new elements from the universe and a new level to reach" to "and now here is immediately the new ultimate enemy of the saga".
Freezer is just training so that he doesn't have to come up with the new saga's new enemy (or enemies, you know how usual sagas are built with various enemies going higher and higher) yet, a clever idea that was inspired to him by a song. Beerus turns out to be an ally, Freezer is an updated past opponent as training...
This is structured like almost every arc in Dragon Ball ever, and you guys are acting as if the saga was always about Freezer and that he was the intended enemy.

It is spelled out for you: Toriyama keeps saying it's written as if continuing the manga meaning as a new saga he comes up with as time goes by just as usual, a bad guy in the movie gives the clear info that it's actually still the intro to something bigger coming, and you have an obvious training that is movie-long with masters watching and teaching their pupils all along.

You bitching about this movie's content is like you bitching about an episode showing Gohan and Goten train, or Goku and Gohan train, or Piccolo and Gohan train: it's a tiny little part of a bigger plot, quit whining, enjoy the episode and what it will bring and wait for the next episode.

You can't ask for the big plot to be rushed, you can't ask when a movie ends with "there are 12 universes" to have "next movie: the 12 universes", this is - luckily - not the way a Dragon Ball saga unfolds.
Really, stop thinking this movie is the ENDGAME of the plot supposed to bring the apotheosis of what's been built up so far, it's one chapter meant to be nothing more than one chapter in the whole series of continuation chapters that will build things up as time goes by.

I think it would be interesting if someone took BOG and this movie and edited them into episodes complete with eyecatch and opening titles to see how it would play out in an episodic format like the old series. Even get one of the guys from TFS to do a fake announcer episode recap. That'd be interesting as an experiment to see how it would feel as a normal saga.
Of course it wouldn't be perfect because it wasn't made to be, but it would still be interesting.

I also don't want another Broly movie, but I do want the next movie to have a major villain similar to him regarding his LSSJ physique and craziness(but he still needs to have a personality), a dark atmosphere, and the soundtrack to have Tataki as the composer and either Kageyama or Naoki Hashimoto as special guests to write battle songs. No more of that J-pop and idol group crap.

Well, that's the crap about modern DBZ, they intend to be made for a specific audience: 10 years old childrens

why can't Toriyama do a movie for the childrens that grown reading/watching Dragon Ball? 20-30 years old people

Taking as example: Saint Seiya: Hades Arc story was solely about pleasing older fans

Besides, I would like something really dark to happen in this movie, something like Freeza torturing Goten and Trunks until finally kill both and then Goku and Vegeta would get angry but no boost or transformation by rage they would still be outclassed by Freeza, it would be amazing... But yeah Toriyama don't have this vision about his series, unfortunately.

I'm hesitant about any involving of Koyama because of how blinded by his love of Brolli he seems. They ask him, he'll immediately make a fourth Brolli movie. We do not need a fourth Brolli movie.

I believe that another Broly movie would be better than this.

If was to make another movie only about fights, power-ups and blasts they should bring back Broly instead of Freeza, for sure.

We hadn't a movie in GT timeline, they could use that Heroes concept: Bring back Broly as SSJ4 against Goku and Vegeta. Yay! Another punch contest festival

Well, not intended to be called homophobic and all but yeah all that Vegeta obsession about Goku really hinted something like that (TOEI Movies further strengthens this view)

But I see that like a "only good friends" stuff so I'm okay with this weird line lol
