Do you mean his SSJ3 voice? I don't recall him changing his voice for just Super Saiyan but he did go deeper for SSJ3.Attitudefan wrote:Morrow had a pretty good SSJ voice for Goku.Gonstead wrote:My main issue with Morrow's Goku is that he can't quite grasp the innocent side of Goku very well and when he is seemingly to be trying, it just basically sounds like the rest of his performance.

I always wonder what Kelamis or Corlett would have done for their interpretation of SSJ3.

I believe Gonstead was referring to his SSJ3 scream in Episode 245/230 which sounded like a dying old man trying to pass a Dragon Ball-sized kidney stone. Kirby Morrow's done an awesome job voicing a lot anime characters but Goku is not one of them. How he's tied second place with Ian Corlett on Behind the Voice Actors is beyond me.NitroEX wrote:Do you mean his SSJ3 voice? Behind The Voice Actors has a great database but most of the members have tin ears and suffer from nostalgia blindness. Tiffany Vollmer's in the lead as Bulma and Stephanie Naldony is in a commanding lead as Gohan, with the common opinion that Clinkenbeard's Gohan "sounds too girly!"

Nostalgia is clearly playing a huge part as far as rankings on that site are concerned, as the highest-ranked voice actors tend to be the voice actors who had most time/TV exposure with their respective characters.
However, I would not dismiss all of their opinions as "nostalgia blindness." Since we Kanzenshuuers live, breathe, and eat "Dragon Ball," I think sometimes we lose touch of what less-devoted, "common" fans think. Even in their review of the first Kai home video release, Anime News Network said, "Tiffany Vollmer's original Funimation performance for DBZ's dub, as well as her performance in the Funimation release of Dragon Ball, gave the character an audio quality difficult to duplicate. Whether her performance or Monica's new one is better is highly debatable."

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
Nope, Ayres is in the lead with 92 votes compared to Young's 39. One of the reasons I like Behind the Voice Actors is that is debunks the myth of Kai's voice actors being less favored than Z, or Funimation's cast ALWAYS being preferred to Ocean Group.Insertclevername wrote:Wait....is Linda Young the lead for Freeza?...*gulp*
Some other examples are:
Zarbon: Tatum - 47, Dobson - 32, Sabat - 11
For me its Tatum > Sabat > Dobson. Sabat's Zarbon may be an over-exaggeration of Zarbon's character but at least it sounds somewhat like Zarbon compared to Paul Dobson's weird Australian bounty hunter voice.
Reacoom: Kaye - 45, Sabat - 20
They both suck in my opinion. Bad Sylvester Stallone impression or HERP-A-DERP. Whoever is in charge of Ocean Kai, please don't screw what may be our final chance for a decent English Reacoom.
Ghurd/Guldo: Klassen - 25, Ayres - 18, Townsley - 9, Thompson - 1
This one surprised me the most. While I agree Greg made Ghurd sound a bit too young I though he was miles better compared to Klassen. His Ghurd just sounds like his Kuririn only constipated. Townsley sounds like he has a gallon of saliva stuck in his throat and Thompson was just generic.
And once Ocean Kai has aired a few episodes they'll be added to the list probably causing a few more shake up. Man, I wish It'd hurry up and aired already. I need something new to debate. Gohan, Bulma, and Freeza Funi Z vs Kai arguments are getting old.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
Yep! Haha, I went and checked after that was said. It's nice to see that people are all over the board for characters! I don't know why anyone would like anything Terry Klassen has done. To me, he's in the wrong business I never liked any one of his roles. I hope we get a proper Recoome for this dub as well. I hope Krillin is re-cast as well, Roshi too (I'd like to see French Tickner as Roshi, he has the proper, real old man sound that every Roshi prior in English has lacked). I hope the people coming in from Blue Water/Calgary don't blow a fat one this time around. Their work from DB/GT are making my hopes of a quality dub this time around slip away, plus we have no idea if the director for this dub is any good... I have to agree with Penguintruth, that just about any voice work Blue Water has done has been awful, paraphrased a bit; but, you guys get what I mean.andrewtuell1991 wrote:Nope, Ayres is in the lead with 92 votes compared to Young's 39. Well, the people who frequent that site make up a very small portion of the DB fanbase.andrewtuell1991 wrote:One of the reasons I like Behind the Voice Actors is that is debunks the myth of Kai's voice actors being less favored than Z, or Funimation's cast ALWAYS being preferred to Ocean Group.

That may very well be the case but nostalgia plays a huge role for many people. I've also talked to quite a few of them and many actually prefer the changes made to the dialog in that era.ringworm128 wrote:Or maybe they simply have different opinions then you.penguintruth wrote:Behind The Voice Actors has a great database but most of the members have tin ears and suffer from nostalgia blindness. This dub?dbzfan7 wrote:So is this happening, I haven't heard anything about it.
Yeah, it's happening. The only remaining mysteries are who's playing what role (known in some cases, unknown in others), whether or not the music and SFX will be altered or replaced...and perhaps most importantly, when this dub will air. Part of me wonders if it will be delayed again in light of the announced Kai-Buu arc, though.

Ah okay. I wonder if they can get a voice actor who can be like Nozawa. Sean is great (IMO) but I feel there are possibilities for someone better. I have him and Masako X tied for best Goku (when X actually plays a normal Goku)TheBlackPaladin wrote:This dub?dbzfan7 wrote:So is this happening, I haven't heard anything about it.

The voice actor from TeamFourStar who voices Goku in DragonBall Z Abridged. I personally don't understand why people go gaga over him, he's just doing a terrible Kelamis impersonation.ABED wrote:Who is Masako X?

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
Didn't mean to, haha! Yeah, the replacement score thing seems odd in 2013. But it still happens, all of those shitty made for TV dubs on Cartoon Network are guilty of this. Terrible acting usually too, it turns out most of those dubs are made by the same people (referring to the new Beyblade and Bakugan when it used to be on), both are done by Nelvana. It annoys the hell out of me that they constantly mispronounce names, re-write, terrible re-scored music, but it annoys me since I want to be a pro VA at some point (and starting in April, I'm doing a voice thing, but its more of a course than a job though). But, It reminds me of 1999 FUNimation. I know that's kinda off topic, but the fact that this could fall victim to typical made for TV dubs, is something I really hope doesn't happen. I really want Ocean's 2nd chance to be great like FUNimation's. Nelvana should drop out of anime though, hahaha.andrewtuell1991 wrote:The voice actor from TeamFourStar who voices Goku in DragonBall Z Abridged.
