Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discussion
Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
So what about the big Super-Surprise? Was my source right and we don't find out about it in this volume, or was it in there somewhere?

Yeah, I want to hear the opening and ending in high quality...Tanooki Kuribo wrote:No clips? No pictures? No scans? No audio samples?! Bah! You suck at getting things first!
Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
The super surprise is that they edited the ending so that Vegetto never defuses.

We all have our dreams. Yours makes sense enough. Defusing Vegetto was such a cop-out when you consider that the Potara were meant to be permanent.Rocketman wrote:I WANT TO BELIEVE
And yes. Blame Tanooki. All of you, blame him hard. Then he'll learn his lesson.

Haha, I know, I know...What he's saying, Tanooki, is that you have failed us. You, specifically, have failed us. Miserably.
I hope you're happy.
Well, if I get my set Monday I'm gonna make a "DragonBall Z Kai DVD\Blu-ray Vol 1 Dissection\Discussion" topic. I'll post pics, screen shots, scans and now that I got a DVD ripper (welcome to 2010) I'll post some clips and possibly the opening\closing themes.
Edit: I should mention, If someone else makes a topic to talk about this release, I'll just post my stuff in that topic.

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
See, this is just... whining, really. No offense or anything, but, uh, who fucking cares? Seriously? Does it change anything? No. Does it really matter that it's there? No. Does it ruin the series? No. Would something like that be said in real life in a similar situation? Uh, yeah. So... what the fuck?Metalwario64 wrote:Wasn't there a line like that in the original Ocean or FUNimation dub?gregorthegame wrote:"Oh No chichi!! Krillin get the smelling salts!"
I don't get it... Weren't they trying to get rid of shit like this?
.....Blue wrote:The fact that they kept that line from the old dub because they thought it was exceptionally humorous makes me worried.
The fact that people think it was left in because they think it was funny makes me worried.
The fact that people even care about such a line makes me even more worried.
....................Blue wrote:It's not the line its self it's the fact that the Funi writers said to themselves "HOLY SHIT THIS LINE IS GOLD! LET'S CARRY THIS SHIT OVER!" I worry about what else they find "funny".
Judging by the above, it's far too late for that.TheMajinRedComet wrote:Lets not blow a Ox King line out of proportion.
Sort of an ironic 'poking fun a the character' kind of joke. A "Chi-Chi's always fainting, so we've got this stuff laying around" type deal. At most. Otherwise, no. It's just what someone in that situation would say.Innagadadavida wrote:Is that even a joke? Is there anybody in their right mind who would consider "get the smelling salts" funny?
But, of course, it's not in the original and so the whiners are whining because that's what they do.

Have you always been this way or ha time here tainted you Xyex? You're blowing things just as out of proportion as they are.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
Anyone who thinks a big deal is being made of the line itself is missing the point.
Nobody cares about the line itself. Ox-King could have said, "Quick, remove her clothing!" It's the fucking principal, that this dub is specifically geared to remove one-off add-in lines like that for the sake of accuracy, but continues to have one.
Nobody is making a big deal out of the line in itself. It's just a little weird that it's there, that's all. And now is a good time to stop talking about it altogether.

Pretty much this. I could care less about how much sense the line makes, it's just annoying that they still feel the need to add any at all.penguintruth wrote:Anyone who thinks a big deal is being made of the line itself is patently retarded.

Oh well, at least the rest of the dialogue is accurate though, and the added lines are apparently quite rare...

Except that no such claim was made. No one from FUNimation ever said "We're doing Kai differently than every other dub we have ever done, and including only the exact same lines as exist in the original version" what was said was that the dub would be more accurate.penguintruth wrote:Anyone who thinks a big deal is being made of the line itself is missing the point.

We've been told that there's some 'big surprise' in the series, at some point, that everyone here is going to love.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:What are you guys talking about "big surprise"?
All of FUNi's dubs, even the current ones, add in a line or two here and there. Sometimes for comedy, sometimes because they just make sense in the context of the situation. And yet, no one complains about them in other dubs and other fandoms. It's just here, in Dragonball, that people start complaining and, quite frankly, whining about it. Does the line matter? No. Is it an alteration of an existing line, completely change it's meaning? No. Is it something the character in question would never actually say? No. Does the fact it wasn't part of the original dialogue matter in the slightest? No.Metalwario64 wrote:Pretty much this. No, I think he made a very VERY good point.penguintruth wrote:I don't think you're ever going to get the point, so I'm going to stop trying to explain it.
Everyone is strangely holding the DBK Dub up to a standard not even matched by the best of FUNimation's modern dubs. They've never EVER to my knowledge produced a dub that didn't throw in an occasional ad-lib here or there. One Piece is the very pinnacle of their Dubs (IMO) and it does occasionally.
Hell, going by OTHER dub company standards, lines are changed, added to and altered often. Hellsing has a dub that is often praised for how accurate it is, yet there was a scene where, in Japanese Anderson screams "ALUCARD!" at Alucard, while in English he screams "YOU BASTARD!".
It's not. A big. deal. At all.
