I don't know how many people are like this, but my "casual fan" friend is one of those types who doesn't go on the Internet and learn about all of this stuff. He just saw that DBZ was on DVD one day when he was at the store, really liked it when it was on TV, bought the first Season Set, took it home, and watched it. He didn't even go to the audio options and he didn't even notice that the soundtrack was different from when he used to watch his old VHS tapes he got as FUNi released them.
I had to tell him that there were two dub BGMs and only once did it effect him. He bought one of the movies or something that had the licensed heavy metal in it and switched to that track simply because he's a fan of whatever band they used in whatever movie it was. Other than that, he doesn't really care and he's one of those guys who I can talk DBZ with for hours. I'm pretty sure that his roommate (who also watched DBZ on Toonami) never noticed and I know that their girlfriends didn't notice because they never watched it before the Season Sets. Also, just to note, they and their girlfriends didn't find the JPN BGM boring, stupid, old, or anything like that.
I kind of have this image in my head that a lot of the people who bought the Season Sets are that kind of fan. They don't care. They just wanted to watch DBZ again. They said, "Yeah, I did notice that the colors were messed up on Season 2, but it didn't really bother me so whatever," just like my friend and his girlfriend did. Considering that internet nerds who come online to talk about anime and bitch about domestic releases seem few and far between compared to guys like the people I just described, in the long run it doesn't really matter to most people which BGM the dub has. So, for the sake of accuracy in comparison to the original, I'd like to see the JPN BGM.
If they only choose one dub and it's the US BGM dub, it really won't affect me much, though. But, while FUNi still has a choice, I'm choosing JP BGM based off of principle as well as personal music preference that stems from the time I watched the dub solely, didn't know about the differences between the JPN and US versions, and thought one BGM was for the movies and the other was for the series (as opposed to one being JPN and the other being US).
So, from my perspective,
most dub-watching DBZ nostalgia seekers aren't going to notice or care.
