Re: What's your most recent Dragonball purchase?
On Friday, when I was out at our Hastings Book Store just browsing around, I came upon the first volume of DragonBall Z Kai! It must've been by dumb luck that I came a crossed it because I never look at their new releases. They're usually terribly overpriced, plus I had no idea the series was even out on DVD yet. I guess I've been focusing too much time on the recent Dragon Boxes.
However, after spying it I decided to give it a once over and to my surprise it was on sale for $27.99. I didn't have enough money to buy it initially, so I went back on Saturday to pick it up, and as of Sunday my Mom and I got through the first 13 episodes. Thus far that is my only gripe with the series. The picture, the dialog, the opening, the closing, all of it was superb and really impressed me!
For those of you that have the money, I strongly suggest you pick it up. For those that do not, certainly catch it on NickToons although it'll be censored.

This set truly is for the ultimate fan and definitely captures DragonBall Z at its best!

I just got a complete copy of Dragon Power (box, instructions, ect) off of eBay just a few minutes ago.
And thus my (stupidly) epic undertaking of collecting every DragonBall video game ever made begins...

I'm still waiting for the 7th volume of the Dutch Kanzenban.
Does anyone know why the release is taking so long?
And is the french release having the same problem?

I got the Bardock and History of Trunks the digitally remastered 16:9 version. I mainly got it just to do a constrast/compare to the full frame version. You get top and bottom parts of the picture cut but you gain more left and right. There's one scene in the 4:3 where you don't see Fasha at all but in the 16:9, she is in the picture completely. I thought that was cool. Not only that, but you also get those screenshots (I'm not sure what they're called but it's what you see before and after a commercial break). Those aren't there in the 4:3 version. I also like the redub with the japanese music (just for the new experience of it).

Dragon Box 3. Watching the second episode now. What's weird is that I purchased the first six season sets, but it feels like I'm watching these episodes for the first time.
It's been done countless times before, but...

Aesthetics are a big part of the experience for me. For many things in fact. Whether it be movies/television shows, or video games.Corporate_Nothing wrote:Dragon Box 3. When I watch these sets, I feel like I'm getting the genuine experience, and it's like I am in Japan, the year is 1989 (or whatever year the specific episode was made in

Re: What's your most recent Dragonball purchase?
Mhmm. Even if I were watching the Season Sets, it would still be a relatively fresh experience because I had only seen the edited English dub of these episodes on Toonami almost a decade ago. I was beginning to lose interest in the series by the time the corresponding orange box was released (and realize what a terrible job Funimation did with the remastering process), so I might have just opened the season three set, watched the first few episodes, and left them alone after that. So this might be the first time I'm watching the original, unbutchered Japanese version of DBZ past the Namek Saga...and it feels good.Metalwario64 wrote:Aesthetics are a big part of the experience for me. Question though, is it just me or does Media Player Classic Homecinema skip the eyecatches?
Edit: It's just me. Somehow missed them in the first two episodes.

Not bad for $10 brand new.
And I found something when I started playing it:

Huh.

Yeah, I caught that too. I though it was a nice little addition, but it's always rarely used. I wish it was used a lot more. FUNimation had a huge opportunity to use "Son Goku" in Kai but failed to. I don't see what's so hard to use his whole name more often.Brad Redfield wrote:

It's virtually unknown to most of the American fanbase.dragondyle wrote:

That's why Kai would have been a great way to start doing it and introduce his full name to the American public.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:It's virtually unknown to most of the American fanbase.dragondyle wrote:
