Nope. Sorbet's surprise beam penetrates Goku's body, but the hole was not there like how they censored the Makankosappo scene in Kai.

Why is everyone getting so worked up about the lack of blood? A lot of scenes in Dragon Ball had cases of bloodless carnage. This can't be as bad as when General Blue's soldiers are all impaled by traps without so much as a red spot. Dragon Ball isn't supposed to be dark and edgy. It's an adventure storyline with plenty of action that at times veers into dark territory. Either way, I don't see how blood makes a difference.

You can't compare the tone shift.

I don't really understand the deal with blood. Some people want blood and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. We all bleed, we all have blood in our bodies. I don't understand why some people feel that blood is ANTI-DB and if you want blood you are a sick bastard.

If you think that's bad then you should look at western cartoons,if something isn't aimed at brain dead kids then it doesn't get green lit.

I dunno about that. However if a western cartoon isn't aimed at brain dead kids, it probably after 2 seasons for some other shit. Which is why shows like Teen Titans Go, Sonic Boom, and Annoying Orange somehow live on.

It doesn't, really. I think some people are disappointed that a movie this 'dark' doesn't feature the level of violence we got back in the day. I mean, Vegeta was gargling and spitting blood in the Freeza arc! That said, it's silly to even expect it at this point. It's a different era where acceptable levels of violence in children's TV shows have changed. It's a shame, but it's a bit unreasonable to expect anything different.

I guess it boils down to whether you really think a lack of blood significantly lessens the impact of what's happening on screen. I'd say blood can help, but solid animation is perfectly capable of achieving the same impact, too. Nothing to be that upset about!

The tone shift isn't nearly as drastic as a lot of you are making it out to be. The series had plenty of violence and death Pre-Z.

Personally, I would like a little bit of blood if Goku is getting a beam through his chest...or at the very least not just black spot. But, hey, it is what it is. I'm not gonna lose sleep over it.

I know that Dragon Ball doesn't need to be gory to be good, but... it's a fucking beam through the chest. If you don't want to show blood then don't even put scenes that brutal in the movie, because it's almost obligatory to have at least a bit blood in order for it to not look stupid.

So...? Are you telling me that in all of the Dragon Ball manga or the Dragon Ball adaptations, nobody has ever bled? No. Just a few years ago we got Episode of Bardock where Bardock snapped someone's neck and they can't spare a little blood? It makes the scene more childish.

The General Blue incident is a gag scene. We can't compare that to a villain trying to kill Goku and blasting a hole through his chest.

Ah, I wasn't aware of that. I'm not a big One Piece fan. I guess that does change things quite a bit, then. I wonder why Kai features toned down blood if the show that follows it is left unchanged. I can't imagine it's entirely to do with international reasons. Thanks for the info, anyhow. Very strange!

It still does. Even animated shows like Regular Show have been censored to hell. Even shows like Animaniacs and Ren and Stimpy during the 90s, a period at which western animated shows could get away with a lot shit, had to deal with a bit censorship.
