No no, it's fine, completely understandable. I'm just making sure I knew what you meant.
Re: Toriko animated series takes Kai's timeslot in April?!
I just had a thought, didn't Kaioshin's Voice actor AND Videl's voice actor both talk about possibly coming back to the series?
Did either of them mention actually being asked or talking to someone in that position?
I seem to remember Kaioshin's actor saying he spoke to the director or something...
I mean, if they were actually asked or someone official actually did say something to them, there's more hope the show will continue?

Kaiôshin's actor said that the director wasn't sure they were going to cover the Majin Boo arc or that they could afford him. Videl's actress said that with Gôri dead she wasn't sure she was up to returning as Videl.

I don't post very often, but I am curious to why the Dragonball franchise is waning in Japan. I find it a little difficult to believe the Japanese would all of a sudden lose interest in an institution as enduring to them as Doraemon, Lupin Sansei and Ashita no Joe.

Because of One Piece, I guess.Karrit wrote:I don't post very often, but I am curious to why the Dragonball franchise is waning in Japan. Poor management. They satured the market with the same sort of games over and over, then created a forth weekly series that rehashed the same story the games did...using twenty year old animation, unfamiliar music, and some recasts.Karrit wrote:I don't post very often, but I am curious to why the Dragonball franchise is waning in Japan. Japan would obviously rather spend their money on One Piece, which is the actual modern Dragon Ball (except with better writing).
Re: Toriko animated series takes Kai's timeslot in April?!
But Dragonball is still one of the top 10 most seen anime every week.
Edit: It might not mean much, but "syoboi calendar" has entries for Kai up untill episode 99.

That link...looks intesting, assuming it is real.

That site has the schedule for anime and anime-related shows throughout the week with several notes like breaks, first and last episode. I've been using it since Kai started. However, future entries might just be based on magazine spoilers and such.JulieYBM wrote:Merchandise doesn't pay the bills.alakazam^ wrote:But Dragonball is still one of the top 10 most seen anime every week.

You also have to remember that Doraemon still has an ongoing anime and Lupin III has had yearly TV specials airing since 1989. Those two series series still have new material coming out. DB hasn't had as much new material so that could be why.Karrit wrote:I don't post very often, but I am curious to why the Dragonball franchise is waning in Japan. Also I know Ashita no Joe is critically acclaimed and well-beloved but has Joe had much new material? It may be as loved as the other series and DB but has it really been such a cashcow like the others, in recent years at least?

Wow. I cannot believe that happened. That's entirely what I meant to say. O.oCipher wrote:Erm, wait. Yes it does.JulieYBM wrote:Merchandise doesn't pay the bills.

Re: Toriko animated series takes Kai's timeslot in April?!
Why don't ratings pay bills? In America there are plenty of shows that are/have been successful based on ratings alone. What's different about Japan that the same thing doesn't apply?
Re: Toriko animated series takes Kai's timeslot in April?!
Toei and other compies have to buy the timeslot that their shows run in, which requires them to spend money. I'm not entirely sure the roles commercials play, but with the way they promote merchandise of the shows during the shows, I'd have to assume outside companies aren't going to spend much on commercial time during a show.Taku128 wrote:Why don't ratings pay bills? Not a single bit of news that has come of this has been helpful. Nobody can tell. I hate how secretive Japan is about this stuff. Drives me crazy, man. Crazy I tell you. I'm crazy.
Re: Toriko animated series takes Kai's timeslot in April?!
Hmmm...another piece of the puzzle that doesn't quite 'answer' anything. Hmmm...interesting, indeed...
Re: Toriko animated series takes Kai's timeslot in April?!
That's... heartening, yet non-telling at the exact same time...

I feel like we're not going to know Kai's fate until maybe one or two weeks before Toriko starts airing. @_@
