Oh, I worried for nothing then. I prefer the Japanese track anyway. Now all that's left is to patiently wait for my box to arrive so I can enjoy it in its full glory!

I'm watching the Cell filler arcs for the first time, and I'm surprised to say I'm enjoying them. The old man combating the dome guards was fun.

The Cell filler arcs are pretty awesome. I love the one in which Kuririn throws a rock at Goku while he's asleep and the Tao episode.

I noticed that during the Ano Yo-ichi Budoukai, Olibu's name is translated as "Olivue" in the subtitles. Is Olibu the correct translation, or is Olivue another correct way to translate his name?

EDIT: Thought this was worth mentioning. On Episode 200, I noticed that the P.E. teacher resembles Freddie Mercury. I don't have the resources to get a screencap of him, so here's an image of him from MFG:

Olibu is a kanafication of olive. As for Olivue, I always want to pronounce it "Olivway" but apparently it's pronounced "Olivu."

His name is a pun on "olive" (probably because he resembles an ancient Greek hero). "Olive" in Japanese is normally オリーブ (oriibu), but this character's name is オリブー (oribuu) with a longer U sound. "Olibu" isn't really wrong per se, but it misses the pun. I've always preferred just "Olivu" myself, but I guess "Olivue" shows the pun and pronunciation too.

That is true. I suppose it's like an English-speaking fan pronouncing Vegeta's name as "Bejita". Sure, it's not wrong, but it's just more practical to pronounce his name like the original staff intended it to be, which is Vegeta. That also gets across his name pun easier.

Anyway, thanks for the reply. I was already aware of the name pun for Olivu, but I just wanted to see which translation was correct.

I recently gave my friend Dragon Ball Z: Season Six for free since he's a totally awesome friend and I thought, "I hope Season Six doesn't look too bad. I remember hearing they got better by six." Is this true? If so, does anyone have any caps that show that it is around the quality where it's watchable?

I mean, you're pretty open about looking at cartoon porn. Why would you do that? It's fiction. The proportions of these women are not possible to reach in reality.

In the Dub, the way this guy is voiced, it's almost like they literally went outside and pulled some random guy off the street that was walking by. That or it's someone friend or family member who wanted to do a voice. It's just...so...poorly acted. Now I know there will be a lot of shots at FUNi's cast as a whole, saying they all act poorly. But this was just...a Level beyond.

I remember when that episode aired on Cartoon Network, the English cast list had a section that said something like, "Special Thanks to (Some Guy)." I don't remember the guy's name, but I always assumed he was some kind of local athlete they brought in to voice the coach, since the coach's voice was so obviously not one of FUNi's regulars.

Anyone have access to the original dub credits for that episode? I'm curious if the guy really was an athlete, and how famous he is if so.

I can try and screencap the dub credits on my buu era singles. I was going to ask episode number (and did before I edited my post) but yeeeeah I need to read better. xD

Okay got it:

Wow. I don't know what was going through FUNi's head back then if they thought this sort of thing would get some more recognition. A random baseball player...and Chewbacca? Yeesh.

Oh yea, I forgot about Chewbacca in DragonBall GT.

Other than (allegedly) bad acting? Not much. To be honest I think I find it more interesting that this sort of thing only happened during the Watson-era, whereas since nothing of this sort has happened.

Obviously FUNimation wasn't taking their production seriously. Which has its problems, but its not like Dragon Ball has ever been worthy of the up most artistic respect. They were having fun while dubbing the show and they got a little creative with casting. That's a-ok with me. A little poor acting was nothing new to their dubbed production at that point anyway. :P

Now, I'm interested in Chewbacca in GT. I've never heard about this. Can someone enlighten me?

He voiced one of the villains in the GT special. I didn't see any clips on YouTube, though, so one will need to pop in their copy of the disc to give it a look.

I'm a little late to the party, but I finally had an opportunity to catch up on my anime backlog, and I finished off the last few discs of Dragon Box 5.

It was nice to finally get to the 200 mark, where the OP/ED change, and the new musical pieces start up. I have a high level of nostalgia for this arc, as I saw it in raw Japanese form on the International Channel way back in 200-...something.

I wanted to bring up something on this set that really stood out to me in a funny way; something I don't remember seeing before. It had been ages since I saw the end of the Cell arc in English, and I don't even remember if I had ever seen it in Japanese. (I only watch the Dragon Box in Japanese, naturally.)

Anywho, Cell is defeated, Earth is saved, and our heroes all head up to Kami's place to recuperate. Gohan is nursed back to health, etc. Now, here is essentially what happens next (not word for word):

-Tenshinhan turns to leave.

-"It's about time I got back. Chaozu needs to know what happened. I'll probably never see any of you again."

-"Bye Tenshinhan! Give Chaozu our best!"

-Tenshinhan leaves.

Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot.

Tenshinhan has been a companion, and he and Chaozu have been fighting alongside the Z-Soldiers for a long, long time. He was certainly never very sociable, but you could tell he was a valued friend, nonetheless.

So how in the hell could everyone be so reaction-less when he just up and says, "I'm leaving and I'll never see you again"? "Say hi to Chaozu!" is the best they've got? I fell on the floor laughing the first time I saw this, and then I had to rewind the DVD a bit to make sure I had read the subtitles correctly. Is this Toriyama simply throwing his hands up and saying, 'That's it! I can't find any use for this character anymore. He needs to go.'?

It makes absolutely no sense to me. Why wouldn't you want to visit one and a while? You're happy being alone with Chaozu in the middle of nowhere for the rest of your life? Was he planning on killing himself after proving so worthless in the Cell Games?

And this isn't written out of the plot, either. When Goku returns to life at the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai, he asks if Tenshinhan is entering, and Kuririn responds by saying that Tenshinhan had mentioned never seeing them again.

Oh well. Goodbye Tenshinhan and Chaozu.

Eh, I guess that's just Ten's way of living. It's not like he showed up for any of the reunion parties during the Saiyan or Garlic Junior arcs.
