FUNimation "DBZ on Blu-Ray" Survey
Re: FUNimation "DBZ on Blu-Ray" Survey
Well, yeah, but you can still zoom them and get the exact same thing. Though it's mostly just the preservationist in me wanting all of the footage to be available in the best possible quality.

Re: FUNimation "DBZ on Blu-Ray" Survey
Took the survey, showing my 4:3 support (even though I already have Funi's Dragon Boxes and don't plan to double-dip on the blu-rays, I still want to see a non-cropped in-print release come to be since the DBoxes are out-of-print) as it was animated in 4:3 after all.
On hiatus.
Re: FUNimation "DBZ on Blu-Ray" Survey
What do you think are the chances of these releases being Blu-ray/DVD combo packs? The MSRP FUNimation suggested sounds around the ball park, and there could finally be a consistent 4:3 DVD release to replace the Orange Bricks.

I don't think I would like black bars on the sides of my TV.

You already do. It's called the border of your TV.
Do you follow the most comprehensive and entertaining Dragon Ball analysis series on YouTube? If you do, you're smart and awesome and fairly attractive. If not, see what all the fuss is about without even having to leave Kanzenshuu:

Do you care when there's black bars at the top and bottom of your TV when most films use a 2.35:1 aspect?Zenkai wrote:I don't think I would like black bars on the sides of my TV.

Levels sets proved that 1080p is a little bit too much for 16 mm film. For 16:9 they will need to zoom in "cropped footage" to get Full HD resolution (1920x1080). There will be no quality gain. Conclusion? Use zoom-in on your TV.

Black bars on the top and bottom don't feel as claustrophobic as black bars on the sides, I think.

And the crop on already close up shots don't make you feel just as claustrophobic?Zenkai wrote:AjayLikesGaming wrote:Do you care when there's black bars at the top and bottom of your TV when most films use a 2.35:1 aspect?Zenkai wrote:I don't think I would like black bars on the sides of my TV.

Black bars on the side are very slimming.Zenkai wrote:AjayLikesGaming wrote:Do you care when there's black bars at the top and bottom of your TV when most films use a 2.35:1 aspect?Zenkai wrote:I don't think I would like black bars on the sides of my TV.

The psychological impact of television pillar boxing on viewers, while certainly an interesting point of discussion, isn't as pressing a concern to me as the possibility of these being DVD/Blu-ray combo packs. I legitimately want to know what people think.

They won't be. There's just no point. We already have the bricks. And a 291 episode series being released on Blu-Ray/DVD combo packs is unprecedented. You'd need twice the number of discs, making each box that much thicker. Pillar boxing and cropping are pretty relevant to the discussion. DVD/Blu combo packs are hardly a possibility, and the speculation really came out of thin air.Kuwabara wrote:The psychological impact of television pillar boxing on viewers, while certainly an interesting point of discussion, isn't as pressing a concern to me as the possibility of these being DVD/Blu-ray combo packs. The biggest truths aren't original. The truth is ketchup. It's Jim Belushi. Its job isn't to blow our minds. It's to be within reach.

That's certainly possible, as it was done with the first season of the remastered Star Trek, which had one side DVD and the other HD-DVD. Personal preference, though, I absolutely hate double-sided discs and seriously hope they don't go down that route. In fact, forget the whole "combo" concept and instead consider they just follow the same model they used with Kai, a Blu-ray and DVD release. However, the DVD version would only be worth it if it was in 4:3, otherwise it would just be a repackaged season set.

Re: FUNimation "DBZ on Blu-Ray" Survey
Combo-packs often contain a DVD and a Blu-Ray on separate disks. They aren't "flippers". Funimation does them a lot, but I don't think they've ever done them with a Dragon Ball release.OutlawTorn wrote:That's certainly possible, as it was done with the first season of the remastered Star Trek, which had one side DVD and the other HD-DVD. Haha, I still have that old release of Movie #3. For some reason Electronics Boutique gave it to me for free when I got Tenkaichi 3...

It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.
Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

Even if they were to, "flippers" are horrible. I hate how easy it is to accidentally smudge or scratch them.chaosyoshimage wrote:Combo-packs often contain a DVD and a Blu-Ray on separate disks.
