Her dress in the first shot was redrawn.

Ah, I see. Her hair is still in the same place on the floor, so it looks like somebody returned to the original genga and made a few changes.Puto wrote:Her dress in the first shot was redrawn.

Wasn't Kai successful outside of Japan? They wouldn't have brought back the series if it was a total failure.coola wrote:Cut-scenes in Ultimate Tenkaichi were really nicely animated, and i don't understand, why they didn't do same thing with Kai? I like to believe, that it was some sort of experiment, to see, if the can pull out remake that is just re-cut of original anime, but Kai flopped in sales, so Toei decided to make new animations from now on, too bad, that it was Dragon Ball who was chosen as guinea pig.

Yes, you are right, from what i heard, Kai Buu Saga was created with outside market in mind, it was put in Japan tv, in order to fill timeslot, after Toriko.

Hmm, has Toei ever done a remake of an anime before DBKai?coola wrote:Cut-scenes in Ultimate Tenkaichi were really nicely animated, and i don't understand, why they didn't do same thing with Kai? Hmm, I'm not sure if you can call these remakes, but, Toei did new anime based on Sally, the Witch, and Himitsu no Akko-chan

Re: Why is Toei reanimating Sailor Moon but not DBZ?
Yes, Toei Animation has told Gegege no Kitarou six times since their first series began in 1968. Nozawa Masako voiced Kitarou for the 1968 and 1971 series by was not able to voice him for the 1985 series because Fuji TV did not want an actor voicing more than one lead. She voiced Son Gokuu at that time. Nishio Daisuke was series director for the 1996 series. There was a 2007-2009 TV series and a 2008 TV series, as well. It was not until the 2008 TV series Hakaba Kitarou that Nozawa was able to voice Kitarou again.

Guess the Buu saga is just the "curse" of Z after all. When Kai was running its first run in Japan, it had higher ratings. Granted, it wasn't as high as the original Z, but higher than the Buu saga Kai. It even had clearer view compared to that "tint" the Buu Kai has. Now we're all bashing it now by nitpicking everything.

So NJ_ on twitter told me that Toei remade Dr. Slump (which aired directly before and after Dragon Ball) and Cutie Honey (which aired directly before and after Sailor Moon). Both series got reanimated.
Also, Toru Furuya is in that Dr. Slump remake as Suppaaman.

Nozawa Masako voices Son Gokuu in a few episodes of the 1997 series. In Episode #4 Arale sees him and the Pure Majin Buu fighting. Episodes #56-59 are a remake of the crossover in Dragon Ball. General Blue is voiced by Kazama Nobuhiko. Ninja Murasaki is voiced by Tobita Nobuo. Shen Long is voiced by Yada Kouji.Kid Buu wrote:So NJ_ on twitter told me that Toei remade Dr. Slump (which aired directly before and after Dragon Ball) and Cutie Honey (which aired directly before and after Sailor Moon). Character designs for the series are credited to both Nakatsuru Katsuyoshi and Yamamuro Tadayoshi. The series uses the same veteran key animations from the previous four Toriyama Akira comic adaptations.

Goku appeared in the Dr. Slump remake? Wow, I never knew that.

I forgot to mention, but it is also Toei Animation's first digitally mastered cartoon. As such, it is the first time Son Gokuu was colored digitally.
Re: Why is Toei reanimating Sailor Moon but not DBZ?
How did Arale see Goku fight Pure Buu anyway?
It is kind of a shame that Toshio Furukawa doesn't voice General Blue there, he is one of my favorites. He actually plays a villain in Sailor Moon too, Hawk's Eye.

I think I remember reading about this once before, and it was due to Goku scanning the manga pages into Senbei's reality machine or something of that sort.Kid Buu wrote:How did Arale see Goku fight Pure Buu anyway?

James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Apparently Toei hired Toru Furuya to play an important character in One Piece. Kind of funny how he gets to be in the one Toei show I don't care for, but doesn't come back for Seiya and Crystal.
(From what I heard this guy is an important character, I obviously don't follow the series so I wouldn't know how relevant he actually is).

It's not Furuya's first role for the One Piece animated series, either. He played Daddy the Father almost fifteen years ago, too. Part of the reason so many veteran actors returned for Dragon Ball Kai is likely part of the reason the series had no budget.

Would've been better if Toei hadn't changed and thus far ruined Arale's original hair colour. Arale as a brunette just looks so generic.DBZGTKOSDH wrote:Here is the whole scene (couldn't find it in Japanese): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LC3qfaFG_LEKid Buu wrote:How did Arale see Goku fight Pure Buu anyway?

Sabo's Luffy's other non-related brother long-thought-dead.Kid Buu wrote:Apparently Toei hired Toru Furuya to play an important character in One Piece. Kind of funny how he gets to be in the one Toei show I don't care for, but doesn't come back for Seiya and Crystal.

The other one was Ace, interestingly he was voiced by Piccolo's VA. So now we've got Kuririn, Piccolo, and Yamcha as brothers in OP.
