At first, I thought I was getting screwed but then I did some math. I was planning on buying all the Ultimate Uncut DVDs as they came out. That would have been roughly 22 discs for 67 episodes at about $18 each. That would mean I would spend $396. I already have the first nine discs so that leaves $234 more to spend on the remaining 13. If there are going to be eight season box sets and I buy them for $35 each from Amazon (price not officially known from site yet), I would be spending $280. It's only a $46 difference between what I planned to spend and what I may spend for the season sets. If I can sell the nine Ultimate Uncuts discs I own, I won't be spending more than I had already planned.

So... it sucks that I just bought a Dragon Ball (not Z) set yesterday? Cause this doesn't necessarely mean Dragonball sets (they might have trouble doing that because of the first 13 episodes).masenko wrote:Is it me or is everyone on this board getting screwed somehow by this set...basically if you have bought one FUNi dvd in your lifetime, then well it sucks to be you. And that basically is all of us.

Dragon Ball & DBGT has basically been already completely released in sets/boxsets. The only thing that needs a release is eps. 1-13 (The Saga of Goku) uncut in America.
But yes, this whole "season" boxset deal pertains only to DBZ right now.

Aren't the "Dragonball" dvd sets in jewel cases? Or are they full blown dvd cases?Ricochet0082 wrote:This is strictly about the the Dragon Ball Z series. Nothing is known about what will happen to both the original series (Dragon Ball) and the final series (Dragon Ball GT).

So then there is little chance they will be re-released? Besides of course the saga of Goku.theoriginalbilis wrote:DVD keepcases that hold 2 discs.BrollysKin wrote:Aren't the "Dragonball" dvd sets in jewel cases? While DBZ is the direct continuation of DB, they technically do count as seperate properties, and are subject to different release patterns and possibly markets.BrollysKin wrote:Blitzen wrote:What'd be the point?BrollysKin wrote: So then there is little chance they will be re-released? To fit the style of this new DBZ season set.
So once again, what'd be the point?

If the new season boxes are extremely successful, then I could see FUNi following them up with DB and GT but I would say they would most likely just re-release the same sets again hoping to capitalize on DBZ's dvd popularity.

Why would they re-release the original Dragon Ball?
They are already on 22 discs which would be an average of almost 7 episodes per disc, although they actually differ per disc and of course the first 13 episodes aren't released uncut on Region 1 discs yet.
I could see them re-doing GT though.

I meant that Masenko said that if anyone here has ever bought a Funimation DVD, then they're screwed.Ricochet0082 wrote:This is strictly about the the Dragon Ball Z series. Nothing is known about what will happen to both the original series (Dragon Ball) and the final series (Dragon Ball GT).
...and I might've looked at that statement at a different angle than I should've.
And I knew Funimation isn't crazy enough to re-release a series that's already in a great format.
...Unless it's a complete series set in the future.
Though, I agree, GT would benefit from something like this.

The only kind of "rerelease" Dragon Ball could use is a boxset release, similar to what Dragon Ball GT is receiving. Because Dragon Ball has a low DVD count, it'd be best if they just put all of them together in a single box release once they get around to releasing the first thirteen episodes.
Would make the DVDs visible in stores again, rather than looking for them on online stores.

Seriously. Ever since Suncoast closed down at my mall, I've had to order my DB/Z/GT stuff online. Of course, that was how I discovered saving a ton of money through the Used and New Section of Amazon, so I guess I'm better off.Tsukento wrote:Would make the DVDs visible in stores again, rather than looking for them on online stores.
I think that GT's "Lost Episodes" should have a boxed set soon. I mean, they're releaseing the rest of the GT sagas in boxes, so why shouldn't they with those episodes? Aside from the Evolution DVD, I just need those episodes, but I've been waiting it out to see what FUNi does... I'm guessing that since those were the last GT episodes released by FUNi, that they'll release them in boxed set last
I'm also guessing that DBZ will be the only Dragonball series to have this kind of season release, since, like others here at the forums already said, DB has those condensed saga sets and GT is undergoing a boxed set of their single releases...

I have to agree with the Member's who decline the possibility of DragonBall / GT receiving their own "Season" Box Sets. I agree with them because DragonBall already is out, in a pretty easily accessed set, excluding the "Saga of Goku", and GT just finishing its final Boxed Set.
I was guessing, after I read theoriginalbilis' post, that FUNimation was probably referring to "Ocean" dubs season. As I can clearly remember us being left in a cliffhanger.Duo wrote:I also think that's where the actual first season ended way, way, way back in 1995/1996 with the "Ocean" dub. The only reason I believe this is because I remember hearing Ian Corletts voice as Goku during those episodes (36-39) way back then, although I could be horribly wrong.
It does seem a bit odd; however, I can't remember which Member, but someone stated that no one would want to buy just a "Garlic Junior" Boxed Set release, if FUNimation went the Saga route. Although, wasn't the "Garlic Junior" Saga, in itself, a season, or am I thinking of the Garlic Junior Marathon on New Year's?Duo wrote:...anyone know why they are naming the Boxsets by "Season" as opposed to the previous "Saga" approach? Seems a bit odd.
Just a little information that might be useful, there is already a Boxed Set for the "Lost Episodes" of DragonBall GT. I would know, I have it. I do not know if you mean a Boxed Set with every DVD, or just a Starter Boxed Set. Hence, why I am providing you with this link. Off-topic nonsense: I swear on everything holy that there was a GT Lost Episodes boxed set offering five DVDs listed on both Deep Discount DVD and Overstock.com for about $36 (a damn good deal), though I put off buying it in favor of doing stupid things like paying bills. Now here I am wanting to go grab it and leave behind a "here it is!" link at the same time, and suddenly I can't find the set anywhere.
But I know I've seen it! Maybe someone who tries harder might pull up the listing.
Back onto the yellow brick road: FUNimation's plans regarding DBZ have a frequent habit of spilling into the fan community before official announcements are made, and so here we are again. Oh, delicious torture. My guess is that we won't hear any further details until the end of July . . . though seeing as how that's nearly two months into the summer, I certainly hope I'm guessing wrong.
Geez-um crow! The "Complete Vegeta Saga" boxed set, [speculation]possible future boxed sets[/speculation], Super DBZ, Dragonball Tenkaichi 2, and more! For a series that's supposedly "over," we're certainly seeing a strong showing this year. Dare we call it a renaissance?
