It definitely has its moments though and I can see why so many fans praise the arc. From best to worst DBZ arcs for me it's: Buu, Freeza, Android and then Saiyan.
The Saiyan arc is your least favourite arc in Z? :o

I'm very intrigued to wonder why you think that.

My reason for it being my least favourite will probably come off as stupid for some and that's totally fine. I still think that it's a good arc, but compared to what followed in Z it ranks as my least favourite.

I think the arc starts off great, you get a crazy bombshell that Goku's from a evil alien race, he has a evil brother and he has to stop him while fighting alongside his nemesis. Goku dying so early off in the arc was also a huge thing. I found the gap between Goku's death and the Saiyan's arrival on Earth to be boring most of the time. The interactions between Goku and King Kai/Kaio were funny and Gohan's relationship with Piccolo was kinda cool... but that's about it.

The gang fighting the Saibamen and Nappa was entertaining and also very impactful with characters dropping left and right. Goku's fight against Nappa was neat and the awesome confrontation between Goku and Vegeta is always an amazing moment... But honestly? I only found the fight entertaining when the beam clash ended. The fight actually got boring for me once Vegeta returned and became a Oozaru. I know that's a very unpopular opinion but that's just how I felt. After the fight, that's pretty much it with the Saiyan arc.

It's only my least favourite because the arcs that follow offer so much more to me. I guess it's because I'm so used to bloated story arcs with so much going on, so many characters and so many fights that the Saiyan arc became the least interesting arc to me. It's a silly thing to say but that's just how I feel about it. It's also probably because back when I first got into the series I enjoyed it because of the crazy transformations, wacky characters like Buu and over-the-top fights so much that when I watched the Saiyan arc it would stick out because it was so different from what followed in DBZ and I wouldn't find it all that appealing.

So yeah, those are my thoughts on the Saiyan arc. :D

I think that everything that came after the Saiyan arc kind of spoiled us. The Freeza arc had so much going on that it really did take the series to a whole other level; the Saiyan arc seems to really pale in comparison to it. I know this because I too felt that way. I was so into the Saiyan arc as a kid until all the "new" stuff started coming out and I felt that the Saiyan arc was the least important in the series. But as I grew older, I learned to get back into the Saiyan arc. I like every arc in Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. I guess because I'm a fan of the product as a whole; there are annoying parts to every arc. For example, in the Saiyan arc, all of that Goku running along Serpentine Road and Gohan training stuff, I could've done without. With the Freeza arc, the gang's adventures on Namek and the fight between Goku and Freeza seems to drag on. With the Cell arc, the Cyborg stuff dragged on a bit. And the Boo arc had a lot of things that dragged. But overall, I can appreciate the story.

I think some of it can be gotten rid of, but much of it helps get the audience invested in Gohan and his journey. Sometimes you wanna cut to the chase, but other times a slow build is the way to go.

No, I get it, but a lot of that stuff just wasn't interesting for me. I'd rather see Gohan training with Piccolo than him wandering around alone or the whole thing with the orphan kids. I know that's filler, but we are talking about the anime here. Obviously in the manga, the "dragging on" didn't really happen at all.

No, it didn't drag on, but it dig fly through what is fertile storytelling territory. I like the orphan kids episode. Seeing Gohan reafirm his mission gives me goosbumps.
