It's because they don't want to make 23rd Budokai ChiChi, isn't it? I know your evil, game designers! I WILL HAVE MY VENGEANCE.
They've done arcs without having all of the fights before. (No Zarbon, no Dodoria, no Butta, Jheese, and Gurd, no Android #19, ect) I think the problem might be more about not wanting to create a second Tenkaichi Budokai stage that looks the way it did in Dragon Ball.
I don't think that's stopping the people who threw Bardock on Namek because they didn't want to make an alternative planet overworld.

That was Spike, not Dimps.

When was Bardock on Namek? Bardock wasn't part of the story mode of Budokai 3. I think you're confusing it with Sparking! NEO, which used Namek instead of Planet Vegeta.

I guess I'll take your word for it since I'm too lazy to boot up the PS2, it's been awhile since I've played Budokai 3 so you're probably right...all of these games sort of blend together.

Except that the Budokai ring in B2 and B3 is the Dragonball ring. B1 had the open air ring that we saw in Z but B2 and B3 have the wall there on the side (I remember this because I always kept my back to it so I couldn't get knocked out of bounds).

Hmm, I don't remember Bardock being on Namek in any of them, actually. I just remember them re-using the Earth mountains area.
A chance to use the crappy image I made! I just put images of all the characters that were in Shin Budokai or the Cardass games but not in Budokai 3 together on one image.

[image link snipped cause it even stretches the page]

*EDIT: Linked because it stretched the page out.*
Hmm. Let's see.

38 characters +
- Pikkon
- Janemba
- Super 17

- Chaotzu
- Great Saiyawoman
- Pan
- Android 19
- Nova/Eis Shenron
- Mighty Mask
- Arale
- Mirai Gohan
- Bebi Vegeta
- GT Kid Goku

That's 51 charcters. Didn't lost Gokule because he's a fusion and I can't remember if they count fusions.

Anyway, it looks like not all of them will be making it into the game since we've got "over 40" and not "over 50". The three in italics are ones we know will be in it. I'd guess that the most likely 2 to not make it in would be Mighty Mask and Chaotzu. MM because he's not overly important and Chaotzu because his size makes his use in a side-view fighting game like the Budokai series problematic.

The 23rd Budokai still didn't have bleachers though, just the three walls around the ring that people stood behind. Budokai 3 had bleachers.

When did it have bleachers? If they used it then, they could use it now. We'd forgive them.
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

Maybe bleachers is the wrong word, but whatever the crowd sits in during the Tenkaichi Budokai in the Buu arc.

True, but I think it's a good enough compromise.

Nah, he's not a seperate character, just somone involved in her Ultimate.

Actually he's a seperate character. The Carddass games let you conbine characters to do teamup attacks. (Or atleast thats what it looks like. A lot of the clips have two or more characters teaming up against another character.)

Huh, I didn't think they'd add in two Dr. Slump characters, especially since they've already got Arale. Well, either way, I seriously doubt he'd make the final cut for this.

Yeah. My bet is we'll probably just see a bunch of GT characters, if Kotaku is right about the game covering GT's story.

http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3169908 says "Saiyan Saga has 30 missions to complete." The story mode should be pretty long.

EDIT 4: The poster below me beat me to two of them, so I edited them out of my post.

Infinite World Hands-on...

Post by DBZGokuSaiyan » Sat Sep 13, 2008 7:17 pm

Hey guys, I found out a little more about IW in GameSpot's and IGN's hands-on reviews. And apparently, the story mode for IW will be pretty much like Budokai 2's, with the board game. But I think it'll have free-roaming like in Budokai 3 as well. I'm not entirely sure. Here're the links for you guys to see.

GameSpot Dragon Ball Z: Infinite World Hands-on Review:

IGN Dragon Ball Z: Infinite World Hands-on Review

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/909/909632p1.html

Edit: Wow, 30 missions for just the Saiyan Saga?!?!?! MAN. I'm happy!!! :D It looks like the story mode should take 15-20 hours to complete, based on the hands-on reviews by GameSpot and IGN.

EDIT 2: By the way, sorry for beating you to it, Taku. :P

GameSpot's description about the story covering "parts of GT" makes me wonder which parts of GT will be covered. If they added GT Kid Goku and Baby Vegeta from the Carddass games, along with Super 17 who was already confirmed and Yi Xing Long from Budokai 3, they could atleast pull off the last fight from each arc.

I'd be really happy if they could put all of those big fights from GT into a Budokai game. So far, the game's shaping up to be awesome. I don't mind the story mode resembling Budokai 2's board-game style. Heck, I actually loved that kind of story mode. (Behind the all-superior Budokai 3's, of course.)

Budokai 3's was a disjointed mess that took way too long to play through when you wanted to unlock something at the very end.

'Course, so was Budokai 2's.

Why should unlockables be super easy to get? If it doesn't take very long it might as well be unlocked from the begining. The point of unlockables is you have to work for them, and it gives you a sense of accomplishment afterwards.

I hate to take sides, but Taku's right. When Budokai Tenkaichi 3 came out, I was really excited and wanted to unlock all of the characters... and after just a few hours of gameplay (not continuously ), I already unlocked almost every character and felt disappointed, not to mention that almost all of the characters were already unlocked at the friggin' beginning!!! Basically, a longer story mode is: more epic, contains more unlockables, and a higher replay value (unless there aren't different game modes besides the story, which is obviously not true in a DBZ fighting game) than a DBZ game that doesn't have a long story mode at all... hence BT3. Normally, the story mode is the bulk of any video game with a plot, due to the fact that a few might not have any other modes, or because the modes just don't have too much effort put into them that makes them very impactful. And besides, at least the game will keep you occupied until another DBZ game awaits you the year after. :P
