Because they want to see other characters doing things too. Those characters, aside from maybe Beerus and maybe Vegeta, aren't exactly getting any real development for quite a while now. The only difference is now we have Future Trunks but the question is... how long will he stick around and at what cost to the other characters pushed to the side.

But why Goku and Vegeta only, when the show has 5 main characters? Personally, I don't mind them getting the spotlight as much as most other people do, because the weaker characters like Yamcha, for example, couldn't amount to even Piccolo. Besides, Z wasn't much better. Sure, we got more of those characters, but it was still all about Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Piccolo, and Krillin, with Goten and Trunks later on.

And character development is long gone for Goku and the others. If something like Battle of Gods didn't affect him, then nothing will.

Beerus and Whis don't even do anything apart from talking nonsense and eating food.

The show should have more characters involved and not throw all its established members over the past arcs in the bin for no reason.

So basically Trunks getting stronger will be added to the list of bullshit power ups.

And what's the damn problem with Trunks getting stronger? Is not like he's going to obtain ssblue in that episode, he's just getting stronger, stronger to be able to defeat Black. What's the problem then?

Future Trunks has been relevant so far, he's the one having development so far, and know he's getting stronger to face his nemesis, which means that Trunks could have more relevance.

So yeah, i still don't get how is this arc the "Goku show" (so far)

Trunks can't get stronger than Black in less than a day unless it is a bullshit power up.

We'll know the episode title for 55 for sure in about 5 hours 23 minutes, and I think that's the one where Goku meets Zeno.

He's getting stronger to face him, it doesn't mean that he will automatically get stronger that day.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a bullshit powerup. This is the same series that pulled a room that fits 1 year's worth of training in a day straight out of nowhere.

I'm still kinda wondering why Trunks didn't bust out Super Saiyan 2 or Super Saiyan Grade 2 against Black. Like, what the heck? It wouldn't have done anything but it still doesn't make any sense why he wouldn't learn it. On the bright side, maybe this training he's about to get might bring back some of his muscle mass Vegeta should have him atleast train his forms more. Even though its pretty useless, Trunks attaining Super Saiyan 3 would be pretty cool. Maybe he could do something unique and special with it instead of just gaining the God Forms like Goku and Vegeta. He could try to master it. Also, Trunks needs to grow out his hair again!!! Maybe he could tie it into a braid for a new look along with some clothes. A new Capsule Corp jacket would be nice.

I wouldn't be surprised if Vegeta teaches Trunks the concept of Blue and how to obtain it, Bulma appears and says she'll take one more day until the time-machine is done. Trunks learns about the new RoSaT and gets SSJB.

To the people saying Goku has been more important than Trunks in this arc, that's false. Trunks is the story! Goku only outline is his fight with Zamasu. In a secondary role we have the Bulma's, who you know made and fix the time-machine. The instrumental plot point to the whole story, which people always forget or ignore.
Beerus and Whis are telling us about the time rules, taking us into Universe 10. Essential exposition.

And I'm not even talking about Black... Fight's are not the only thing that matters.

I don't want Goku to beat Black because frankly he's becoming unlikable in Super. His way over the top antics have gotten to the point now where I want him to get his ass beat if it means getting some resemblance of his Z self ack (or at least how he was and imho should be like in ep43)

Agreed. Honestly, I'm hoping something detrimental happens to somebody close to him and snaps him out of whatever the heck is wrong with him. Like Gohan. What if Black killed him and there was some kinda circumstance that would make it really difficult to bring him back? Something like that would hopefully make him more serious. Like I wanna see him get mad like he was when Kuririn got killed for the first time.

He's the one who tested Trunks.

He's the one who fought Black.

He's the one who went with Beerus and Whis to U10.

If the episode titles are true then he'll be fighting black again in ep57.

In ep58 he'll be meeting with Zeno.

It was him or Vegeta.

Regardless of how good the fight was, it would've been very disappointing to not get a Goku VS Black yet.

You would think Bulma getting killed in the future would snap him out of it, but he becomes even more of an idiot afterwards. I love the whole cast but if it means having one of his family members or friends mortally wounded and/or killed to bring him back to normal then I'm all for it

I would like so much if somehow Black surpasses Beerus and Whis and beat the crap out of them, I want to see the fear in both Goku and Vegeta eyes, and the only way I see that happening is Whis being defeated or killed by Black.

I totally agree, that would be great. But Beerus should be the one killed, i mean, Whis would be defeated after Beerus is killed.

As Beerus os currently a popular character, killing him would be a shock.

Hey if Goten getting hurt kidnapped or even badly beaten would bring Goku back to normal then like I said go for it. Hopefully it'll bring development for Goten and Trunks in the future to take training seriously (though I doubt that'll happen). Besides Goku has had barely any one on one time with Goten, it was mostly with everyone else around. It could lead to decent father son moment between the two
