But doesn't Funimation control North American DVD/Blu Ray distribution of Dragon Ball? For that to work, they'd have to go through Funimation...would Funimation let them, when they can sell their own version of Kai?

Not to mention they technically fully released their dub of Z Kai on Blu-Ray/DVD. Selling the Ocean Dub next would only get them more money.

If Funimation get's the rights to the Ocean dub for distribution it would be awesome to have it all with the funimation dub all in one package, they could just release the Ocean version in Canada separately.

I should note the FUNimation Dub of Z Kai was released in Canada.

Since the Ocean Dub DVD is releasing in August, it would be the ideal time to put the Ocean Dub of Z Kai onto TV.

If that happened the dub would have been very rushed giving us a repeat of the Westwood dub if not something even worse. And it would have been competing with Funimations dub. As I said before this dub isn't taking THAT long it just feels like an eternity because we aren't getting any info, on it, Funimations dub began in 09 and finished in 2012 only difference is that Funimation released their dub as it went along.

Be that as it may, they have potentially traded one problem for another...namely, higher expectations. Because of how long it has taken, I guarantee that there are going to be fans who are going to judge the dub extra-harshly, a la, "We waited three years for THAT?" I won't do that, but we all know that's going to happen with other fans.

More accurate, more consistent, etc. Otherwise, it'll just sort of exist for the few people who couldn't enjoy the FUNimation dub because they prefer the Ocean actors. Sure, the novelty of hearing McNeil and Drummond reprising their main roles would be cool for a few episodes, but it needs to be more than just that. I wonder if they'll even get to dub the Buu story arc down the line.

I find that to be unlikely considering Funi had a decade doing the characters and had a good budget for Kai while Ocean hadn't touched the franchise in years when they started on Kai and are also likely to have a low budget due to the lack of official announcement or advertising. Plus they're supposedly using Blue Water actors. But there really is no way to know until it comes out and that is assuming we actually get to see it.

Just because it's taken 3 years does not equal a great dub, for all we know they could just be using Funimations script's as again Ocean is just a talent pool.

Well, the comparison to Westwood might be a bit of an exaggeration. They dubbed 183 episodes in two years, according to DB Wiki. That's completely insane. This will likely be better by default.

This, by the way (and I'm not blaming you for this reaction) is a great example of why producers don't like voice actors to talk about their work until they've been given the official blessing to do so. Really, we learned about the Ocean dub waaaaaaaay too early. We still aren't supposed to know about it, and only know about it because a few voice actors openly talked about it.

Several VAs have confirmed it including Drummond himself pretty recently. Although people keep saying it could be good because they've spent 3 years on it but we don't know that for sure. For all we know they didn't start recording until much much later than Kirby Morrow first mentioning it.

My honest guess is that it will air in Canada and maybe places like Holland that still haven't had Kai on TV. It most likely won't receive a DVD release and will be edited to an extent. If it really is the 2nd coming of the Westwood dub then god help us.

My guess is TV for Canada and Holland and DVD for the UK. I highly doubt it's the second coming of the Westwood dub because more time has been spent on this with the producers being hands on. AB aren't behind this either so I expect this to at least be around the level of Funi's Kai dub.

By the way anyone know if Death Note was censored/edited in any way when it aired on YTV? Since the first DVD was released exactly one month after it premiered on that channel and due to the TV premier being delayed I get the impression that the show was dubbed for DVD in mind first so if there was edits maybe a similar case could occur with this dub.
