You know, it's sort of not fair to outright insult them. It's your opinion that Broly being such a huge character is dumb (one I agree with) but they seem like intelligent guys who a lot of talent.Rocketman wrote:Or maybe the authors are dumb.jjgp1112 wrote:Hmmm...maybe this is why he's able to go toe-to-toe with Vegetto.

I see a lot of artistic talent, but I also see a story that plays out like the fanfic of a 12 year old.KaiserNeko wrote: You know, it's sort of not fair to outright insult them. There are some cool ideas (Kuririn wearing a shell made of Katchin for instance) but the overall plot is going absolutely nowhere.
Does it really matter if the plot is going anywhere? It's not like anyone is loosing a substantial amount of their life checking a new page out twice a week.
I do believe Salagir said the tournament wouldn't be the only part of the story. With this chapter likely going to mainly be a dialogue chapter (just look at the chapter title) I think their main purpose right now is to explore the interactions between the different fighters (which is fun in it's own right).

Sorry my mistake, I forgot DBM was exempt from any and all criticism just because it doesn't actually shorten my lifespan to read it.JulieYBM wrote:Does it really matter if the plot is going anywhere? I think there are a million more interesting stories that could be told, but instead some great artwork is wasted on "HURF DURF EVERYWUN SHOUD FITE EACH OTHER!11".
I look at DBM and see wasted potential, you don't?, good for you then.
Where have we seen this before, I wonder? Early DragonBall.. Tournaments.
It's classic shounen, Captain Awesome. Might I suggest another genre for you?
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
That would be a good point if all of the Tenkaichi Budokai didn't have some narrative structure and character development behind them.bkev wrote:Where have we seen this before, I wonder? Early DragonBall.. Tournaments.
Clearly we have differing opinions on what constitutes classic shonen, for me it really doesn't have anything to do with mindless fan-wank tournaments.bkev wrote: It's classic shounen, Captain Awesome. Might I suggest another genre for you?
The manga's tournaments consisted of eight fighters and seven matches. We passed that in the one where Uub got his arm torn off seventy-six pages ago.Bussani wrote:So...like every tournament in the manga (that didn't get interrupted), then?Captain Awesome wrote:but the overall plot is going absolutely nowhere.
Well, the fights are a lot shorter. We're only up to page 144 or something? That's not even 1 tankobon yet. Most of the tournaments in the manga lasted 2 or so. Granted, you might say the tournaments in the manga were more interesting or action packed or whatever, but that's nothing to do with plot. If you had to read them one page every few days like this then...jeez.Rocketman wrote:The manga's tournaments consisted of eight fighters and seven matches. Going by page count compared to the 21st budokai tenkaichi, we'd be around the beginning of Jackie Chun vs Kuririn right now, which by page count, isn't even halfway through the whole tournament.

Fortunately there is some narrative behind the characters. I have a soft spot for fiction involving "parallel universes" and some such. Some of the story elements may seem unoriginal but overall I am entertained by the story and the great art. If it's "mindless fan-wank" material then so be it.Captain Awesome wrote:I see a lot of artistic talent, but I also see a story that plays out like the fanfic of a 12 year old.KaiserNeko wrote: You know, it's sort of not fair to outright insult them. So so far I've enjoyed it. Since I am not a native French reader I will not comment on the text, though we all know the translations leave a little to be desired. Most of the time I can completely understand the English translation albeit with the occasional spelling or grammar mistake. Other times an entire page will be VERY confusing because of what looks like a rushed translation job. Then again, translation does not really matter in the larger context of the story.
Gogeta Jr's art is very good and close but not the same to Mr. Toriyama's work. Still some of the art work can have slight scale issues as well as inconsistencies from one scene to another but it is hardly anything to complain about.

You shouldn't have said that.

Not really, they've been doing that a few months from now, and I always wondered why? It takes up space in the thread, there's no point to it, people can just go and see the page on the site themselves. That's the point in my post, the fact that posting the page here is incredibly pointless and it takes up space. Now, what was the point in your post? Besides giving me sass.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:What's the point in your post? They have been doing that ever since.DNA wrote:What's the point in putting the page here with every release?

I've always been concerned about that, too. Always wondered why all of the lazy bums post the pages here, instead of going to the site, itself. This also brings spoilers to new readers.DNA wrote:Not really, they've been doing that a few months from now, and I always wondered why?
