And let's also not forget the various incorrect dialogue lines in the Sparking! games. JP audio in the English track, outro's being mixed up (such as, IIRC, SSJ2 Goku calling Grandpa Gohan Pan), etc. And it happens in other series, too. Like ADV putting dub audio onto a sub-only Sailor Moon DVD set.

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
Yeah. Dialogue mistakes happen. Nozawa's pronounced it KAYO-ken before, and it slipped through into official release.

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
Kai itself is already a flawed product before we even bother to concern ourselves with a dub. Therefore, while I most certainly do want the best dub possible, I'll be exceedingly grateful just to get something that shows an honest, respectable effort. Without turning my back completely on the possibility of major screw-ups, I remain cautiously optimistic given what we know so far.
Personally, I'm focused more on dialogue itself rather than the cosmetic changes. And by dialogue, I mean relevant dialogue. Vegeta ain't offering Goku a job no more; that sorta thing.

Watched the first five so far, really lovin' it. The ONLY thing I groaned at was the use of "guardian of the Earth" by Roshi, but I quickly got over it; not the worst thing in the world in retrospect.
LOVE the new script, perfect way for me to introduce the show to someone who's never really "seen" the show before outside of having basic knowledge a typical anime fan would have of Dragonball. Colleen's really good, though I'm NOW realizing how incredibly annoying Gohan is during this early stuff; I keep assuring said Dragonball-virgin "I SWEAR, HE GETS COOL LATER ON." XD
Also cool little cameo by J. Michael Tatum as the Oni-guide.

He's just as annoying in Japanese. Every other word is him screaming the Japanese word for "Father", and it makes me want to pluck my eyebrow hairs individually with my own fingers.

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
Haha, I forgot about that. Though, that does kind of soften the blow. I probably wouldn't have minded as much if the mis-pronunciation had been when he was offhandedly mentioning it to Krillin, not when he was yelling it against Nappa... Eh, I don't even really care any more.Xyex wrote:Nozawa's pronounced it KAYO-ken before, and it slipped through into official release.
Also, that mention of "added" dialogue earlier when Roshi was in the bathroom before Goku talked with him via King Kai, I was watching the Dragon Boxes and was on that episode, and in the original Japanese version of Z he said "Oh, what a hot gal!". If that was removed from Kai, then it might be a good thing if FUNimation re-added it in. Although "You've been a naughty girl haven't you?.." is different, it still gets pretty much the same point across.

If "Tri-Beam", "Guardian of the Earth" and the slipped Kaioh-Ken mispronounciation are the only things people have to complain about dialogue wise, then hot damn.
Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
How is the power up yelling in the dub? Is it like the old dub where they take a breath every few seconds or more like the JPN version where its usually one continous yell?

I uh... think you have that backwards.TRIZACK wrote: Is it like the old dub where they take a breath every few seconds or more like the JPN version where its usually one continous yell?
Either way:
G1Ravage wrote:If you listen closely, when the characters are grunting or making noises, you'll hear that they've tried to somewhat emulate the Japanese style. They're much more restrained than the previous dubs, which makes this so much easier to listen to. I could also swear I heard one or two instances of Schemmel using a few hickish choice of words for Goku.

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
This. Kai isn't the only show this has happened to; FUNi does an excellent job on One Piece and even "Zolo" (which was used in the TV edited dub) has slipped in a few times on the DVDs, like in the credits and eyecatchers. And "Zolo" wasn't the only term to slip. Hell, even some things that weren't supposed to be in the TV dub have slipped in from the uncut dub.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:If "Tri-Beam", "Guardian of the Earth" and the slipped Kaioh-Ken mispronounciation are the only things people have to complain about dialogue wise, then hot damn.

Yeah, you can't expect them to get the pronounciation correct all the time and as someone previously mentioned even Nozawa mispronounced "Kaioh-Ken".MugiMikey wrote: This. I own every single One Piece DVD and I've yet to hear "Zolo" once. Where the hell did you hear that?!

I said it was in the credits and eyecatchers. Remember? In the first set (or was it first two?) Zoro's eyecatcher said "Zolo" and the credits for Movie 8 said Zolo too, as well as a bunch of the 4Kids terminology...DemonRin wrote:Wait, what?!MugiMikey wrote:This. "Zolo" wasn't actually said aloud.
Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
Oh right, but the eyecatch thing was just some remnant from the Material Toei gave them, plus, you could only see the "ZOLO" if you Freeze-framed it, It was literally only visible for one frame.MugiMikey wrote:I said it was in the credits and eyecatchers. And the credits have been horridly inconsistent from day 1. Zoro was spelled "Zorro" a couple of times, in the Japanese cast credits Luffy is often Spelled "Lufi" "Rufi" and "Ruffy" and Arlong was for some reason spelled "Aaron".

Where exactly did you people buy it that it was shipped early? Sorry if this was already answered.

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
I wish they would ship to STORES this early. I'd rather not pay extra for them plus extra for shipping. I like the store experience.

Then what would be the point of release dates?LeprikanGT wrote:I wish they would ship to STORES this early. I'd rather not pay extra for them plus extra for shipping. I like the store experience.
I don't mind paying a little bit extra to get it 2 weeks early.
