So I guess the endings won't be dubbed until a few weeks in....damn

Daman Mills is the understudy Frieza, he voiced Tanaka in One Piece Film: Gold

Judging by the last two endings, they play the original for a few episodes then switch over.

In any case, they bastardized the cut in this version. I'm disappointed.

I was just hyped to hear Light Pink dubbed but I guess in order to please both parties, they're playing the endings in Japanese for their first 6 weeks

I was absolutely shocked to hear Frieza change voices midway through only to have Ayres come back for the end. Daman did a wonderful job as Tanaka in One Piece Film: Gold so I'm sure that the Frieza voice is good but it was jarring

Oh wow, so Chris's health was already failing him at this point in the dub? :(

This begs the question though of how much will we hear of Ayres next week if at all. With this episode being the first to include an understudy, that may mean that next week will be all Mills. Honestly though, this is insane as we now have Jim Foronda filling in for Cell in Kai: The Final Chapters likely due to union problems with Dameon Clarke and now a fill in for Frieza due to Ayres' health. No matter what, the dub for this series can't catch a break but there are legit reasons as to why these things happened

Are there any samples of the new Freeza voice?

No, there were a few lines in the episode where Daman Mills voiced him.

I actually think it was more of timing reasons, not union. When he voiced Cell before in Kai & Xenoverse 2, he used a pseudonym. I think they didn't care since the scene was filler anyways, but they got Ayres, so they should've gotten Clarke too.
Only dubs that matter are DB, Kai, & Super. Nothing else.

He didn't use a pseudonym in any of the Xenoverse games and that sounds too specific, it was definitely union related

He did in Kai, though. If he didn't go by a pseudonym in Xenoverse 2, it must be because the pay's different, since FUNi's nonunion, whereas Bandai probably aren't. As I said, though, it was most likely a timing thing, since he would've most likely continued using the name if he'd been brought back for the one line. And since they didn't bring Travis in to voice match him, as HE was doing the One Piece dub at the same time, it must've been actor availability, since both do a lot of voice work outside of anime dubs in California.

Maybe THAT'S why the second part's coming out in October, though the last few episodes would be on the 3rd. Maybe they wanna give Chris enough time to recover so he can rerecord Frieza's dialogue that this guy recorded in his absence.

Dude, he had to use a pseudonym for Kai in order to not get caught by the union, he did though so he can likely only do the video games because they're union and non union. As for the timing part, the dub was produced over a 4 year period so I doubt that timing was the issue and as for Travis, it's not his chatacter to begin with unlike Ace in One Piece so he probably isn't allowed to do it by his union. They're both likely in different parts of the union so their rules differ between them

Ayres will likely be in the hospital from now until probably after that set comes out. What he has is serious and it'll greatly impact his work as a voice actor so don't expect that to happen

As for what was Mills and what was Ayres in this episode, there were a few lines, laughs and screams that were strictly Daman Mills but basically everything else was Ayres

As I said, though, if they got Clarke back, which I'm absolutely sure they could've, he would've used the name he used before. However, since that's the only character he continually voices for FUNi nowadays, & he lives in California, I'm betting they didn't call him, since it was only 1 line. However, for consistency purposes, it IS weird that they didn't since it wouldn't have taken long. I think you're overthinking it a bit here.

How long will his stay be? If it's not too long before the 3rd set comes out, which I'm guessing since they're on a 2-3 month release schedule for them will be in either December or January, February at the latest, he could potentially do it in a few days or so. FUNi's done similar things before, like when they delayed the later parts of Kai to replace the musical score, or when they completely changed the voice actor of a character in Fairy Tail after the people behind the dub realized it wasn't the right call after they saw a later episode that established part of the characterization of the character, right before one of the part sets for that show came out. Then again, if it's only a few lines here & there, & the voice double does do the match quite well, maybe they won't need to, except if the dub team wants to have consistency.
It's just a hope, since he's probably gonna be out by the time they dub the Univeral Tournament arc next year. Then again, with how Schemmel's chosen to voice Goku Black, I think an Ayres soundalike's the least of this dub's problems.

I'm not that familiar with Daman Mills. Does he have a good track record?

If they were able to get Scott McNeil, who lives in Canada, back to do a few seconds of filler for the Strong World filler in One Piece, they could have gotten Clarke back for the same amount of time so its not unreasonable to think that it is a union thing because things like that happen all the time

Also, as I stated before, what Ayres has is going to greatly impact his ability to voice act for quite a while so there is absolutely no reason why they would call in someone who should be resting his voice to rerecord a few lines in the last two episodes of an arc, it'd be morally wrong. There is a chance that Ayres may never voice act again because what he has is serious
