With a price point of $9.98, I would assume not.Big Boss wrote:I wonder if the singles of those T.V specials are Steel Books...
These TV Special releases seem pretty indicative of a lot of the budget-priced DVDs that Wal-Mart seems to specialize in. Like, for instance, all of the 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 DVDs they have, or the lenticular slip-cover DVDs.
While continuing this trend into the DBZ movies seems redundant and pointless, I wouldn't put it past Wal-Mart or FUNimation, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Well, it was my second guess. Still, I do like the blue they used. The cover looks very nice.Shiyonasan from a topic 5 months ago wrote:I'm going to guess red. Blue wouldn't surprise me though.
Seconded.B wrote:Here's hoping redubbed Movie 1 and first thirteen episodes! And no goddamn widescreen. And accurate Mystical Adventure translation!
At this point you might as well just get a bookshelf exclusively for all the Movie 1 releases...VegettoEX wrote:I've still gotta get one of the "Double Feature" versions, actually. I'm sure I'll just get the Blu-ray eventually...JulieYBM wrote:I'm just wondering...if FUNi releases all of the Z films in singles (repacks of the DF release)...will Mike buy Movie One again?!!

I really hope they don't change the opening. The old one just carries so much memory and nostalgia for me. I don't care about an accurate translation if it means altering the song that I know and love. If I want an accurate version, I'll just listen to the original with subsB wrote:And accurate Mystical Adventure translation!
Maybe FUNi is repackaging all the TV specials, and including more like Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans, and Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return.Tekkaman-James wrote:These TV Special releases seem pretty indicative of a lot of the budget-priced DVDs that Wal-Mart seems to specialize in. It's a long-shot, but one can always dream.

Why is the box blue? That makes about as much sense as GT's green. I would have preferred the boxes to be red, because that's the color of Goku's Gi throughout most of the series.
Just a minor complaint... It's not going to stop me from getting these DVDs on day one. I can't wait to start watching Dragon Ball again!
EDIT: Maybe FUNimation is releasing the Remastered Singles because they're discontinuing the Steelbook Double Features.

Wow, I actually LIKE those TV special Singles discs.
I kinda wana get them.
I never got the Steelbook Double Feature Release of them, and now I can get these!
I'd rather have these two in Singles-Format like this, because this way they aren't in the exact same box design as the Movies, so they don't match the Movies.
I like that better considering they aren't movies, they're specials.

I'd say it makes sense. The colors seem to represent the tone of the series;Innagadadavida wrote:Why is the box blue? That makes about as much sense as GT's green. I would have preferred the boxes to be red, because that's the color of Goku's Gi throughout most of the series.
Orange for Z = a more serious tone
Blue for DB = a more light hearted tone
Green for GT = ...puke?

I guess that means the DB sets should be orange too.B wrote:Z was orange because Dragon Balls are orange and the outfit Goku wears the msot throughout Z is orange.
To me, it seems that dark orange is more serious than say, a yellow. They could have made the sets yellow...how would you feel about that? Yellow doesn't exactly express the true colors of DBZ. ( No pun intended. )How is "orange" serious?
I was partly being serious...apart from the "puke" for GT.I think he was joking; setting up for the GT = "puke" portion of the post.

The difference from GT is that FUNi was actually given all of the openings/endings for that series. They were only given one opening and one ending for Dragon Ball. FUNi could only include the other opening/endings if they went back to Toei and asked for all the proper footage.Victator Supreme wrote:Is there a chance Funi will include the second into and other endings this time? Using the process they used to include all of the GT endings?
Of course, thanks to One Piece, FUNi and Toei are, like, dating right now, so it might be a possibility.

Dude, have you ever looked into the face of an Orange? If you did you'd know they are very serious. How is "orange" serious?

... Ok, but seriously (no pun intended). I think either Orange or Yellow represents DBZ pretty well. Blue for DB? Yea, I think it fits. Green for GT was a little odd... I don't know what I would have picked though.

Good god, it's like DBZ Season 1 all over again. As mentioned, unless this is all some kind of elaborate hoax, it looks like they're finally re-releasing the DB series. It's been a kind of goal of mine to finally get in gear and pick up Madman's first box set of DB to finally finish up the series for me, but now with these coming out, I may just pick these up (assuming it'll be in full screen and better quality than PAL).
... Then again, with these "blue bricks" (I'm still kinda surprised a good number of daizex'rs here predicted the color) that means there's a chance that people with the 2-disc sets will be willing to sell them for a significantly lower price than what they're going for now (~$50+). In the case that FUNi does pull a widescreen on us, then that'll definitely be the better place for my moneys
.
Assuming (seems like a lot of that's gotta be made whenever FUNi enters the mix) that this set does include the first 13 episodes, would this mean an eventual release for the DB movies? I doubt more steel sets would be made, but maybe something more along the lines of FUNi's upcoming Z movie singles would be more up FUNi's alley. Though they could just as easily include something like one movie per season set for DB. That'd definitely be a pain for people just in search of particular movies
.
Bah, FUNimation. Just... bah. I'm glad we're finally getting a release and all, but really now, we've had to wait for so long that it just seems so ridiculous to actually pick this set up once it comes out.
Meh, at least this means more updating for the DVD guide on the main site... if that can really be seen as a good thing.

I hope that the DB Season sets have the same level of quality as DBZ Seasons 6-9. I'd be happy with that.
Also, I don't think Funi's learned anything from the widescreen uproar. The only reason the GT Season sets were fullscreen was because Funi used their preexisting digi-beta masters, which were already framed.
And speaking of colors, I think red would have fit for GT, thanks to the Super Saiyan 4 colors.

Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Yeah, and the whole time fans were complaining, Gen Fukunaga was probably smoking a cigar, laughing, and taking a bath in a tub full of all of the money made from Season 1.Big Boss wrote:I seriously doubt they'd crop it to widescreen again, unless they want a repeat of the Season 1 incident where FUNi were literally butchered left right and centre.

Some people'll just buy any DBZ merchandise, no matter how flawed it may be. Even if Fukunaga shit in all the box sets and advertised it, most people would still buy it.
