Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion thread (DB–9)
Bonus content via the "Jump LIVE!" app in Japan this week. Toriyama tells all about Jaco the Galactic Patrolman.
Incidentally, it appears that Toriyama's editor in Jump is now Kōhei Ōnishi, as the comments on the Jaco material on "Jump LIVE!" are his. Not sure who it was for his previous short series / one-shots.

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion thread (DB–8)
I was thinking today...wouldn't it be funny if Toriyama threw us a curve-ball and instead of Goku being the alien that Jaco followed to earth it was Kami/Piccolo? That would make it even farther back than Goku's arrival, making the old-fashioned world fit a bit better.
How it doesn't really work is that the Namekians aren't really threats that the Galactic Patrol would have to hunt (there's even at least one in their ranks!). Still, we don't know about Kami's past, maybe he was a fugitive who landed on Earth and eventually changed his ways, expelling the evil within him in order to become God! OR I get the feeling Jaco is sort of a black sheep of the Galactic Patrol, so maybe they sent him after Kami as a joke or something
I dunno. Realistically, I still think Goku is what we're building up to, but now's the time to throw out those crazy theories, right??
Also, I'm super jealous that Jump LIVE! subscribers get to see Toriyama talk about Jaco. Hopefully that'll end up in Kanzenshuu's interview guide some time

Jaco said that an alien from a malicious planet was coming, and we know that the Namekians are all peaceful.medama_oyaji wrote:I was thinking today...wouldn't it be funny if Toriyama threw us a curve-ball and instead of Goku being the alien that Jaco followed to earth it was Kami/Piccolo? Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion thread (DB–8)
Chapter 5 is out.
"There are many types of monsters that scare me: Monsters who cause troubles without showing themselves, monsters who abduct children, monsters who devour dreams, monsters who suck blood… and then, monsters who tell nothing but lies. Lying monsters are a real nuisance: They are much more cunning than others: They pose as humans even though they have no understanding of the human heart; they eat even though they’ve never experienced hunger; they study even though they have no interest in academics; they seek friendship even though they do not know how to love. If I were to encounter such monsters, I would likely be eaten by them… because in truth, I am that monster."

No, it is not. It is officially "out" on Monday both in Japan and internationally. What you are talking about are illegal leaks from the Japanese print edition, which we acknowledge exist, but incredibly frown upon and will not tolerate the distribution of or inducing the distribution of.enjyu123 wrote:Chapter 5 is out.

Thus far, you have...enjyu123 wrote:Chapter 5 is out.

enjyu123 wrote:Scanlation link removed by admin.
Here you go ièm pretty sure posting this is allowed.
- and asked whether chapter 4 was "out yet" (without a question mark, I might add), the day after chapter 3 came out:
enjyu123 wrote:Is chapter 4 out yet.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but enough. We don't care what you do elsewhere on the Internet, but we don't want to hear about it. Mum's the word, or you'll soon find yourself looking for somewhere else to brag about your scans. Maybe there, you'll find someone who's actually impressed. (As a starting point, I suggest searching for forums that have large numbers of posts consisting solely of "FIRST!")

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion thread (DB–8)
Since there are 4 chapters released officially, shouldn't it be DB-7?

This is kind of a stupid question but if I get a subscription to VIZ's WSJ now, will I be able to read the previous chapters?

No. It's from that point going forward.Insertclevername wrote:This is kind of a stupid question but if I get a subscription to VIZ's WSJ now, will I be able to read the previous chapters?
I don't think you can buy back-issues, either. If you can, it's completely convoluted and I've never seen it mentioned/available anywhere via either the mobile app or the website itself. I'd actually like to buy one back-issue, myself, to get the first chapter of One-Punch Man...

Damn. You think I should wait out for some kind of physical release? I mean I could just jump in the service now since it's better now than never.

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion thread (DB–8)
Since I'm only interested in "Jaco" I was going to wait until it's all collected in one book (hopefully) in English. I don't see a point buying a subscription just to read one story.

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion thread (DB–8)
Viz has released a few digital only volumes of I think Cross Manage and Nisekoi on their app. They said that physical versions might come out later. Same might happen with Jaco. There may be a digital only collection on their app at some point with a physical release to come later. So just a heads up it may be better to hope they release a digital collection on their app than wait longer for a print version or jump in during the middle. But I think you will be able to find a good summary online of what happened you to this point if you can't wait.Insertclevername wrote:Damn. Thanks for the heads up!
I think I'll just be patient and do what Scarz is doing. It'll save me some cash anyway.

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion thread (DB–8)
Yeah, it's probably just better to wait. A stand alone digital release is basically guaranteed. And when Barrage (a series that started and ended in WSJ) got a physical release and something like Cowa! (another Toriyama work) also got one then Jaco has some good odds.hunterxhunter21 wrote:Viz has released a few digital only volumes of I think Cross Manage and Nisekoi on their app. They said that physical versions might come out later. Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion thread (DB–8)
It just occurred to me to those holding out on a compiled volume release, physical or digital, that there is the possibility of Viz redrawing any and all Japanese sound effects into English. If that bothers you, you may consider getting on board with the rest of the chapters.
Coincidentally, I have a subscription to ESJ but have not been reading Jaco; if Toriyama's using his own English SFX, this entire post may be moot. I just know Viz doesn't edit the SFX for ESJ because it's same-day released as it is in Japan, so there's no time for them to actually do any big editing like that.
And i'm almost certain you can't buy back copies of issues you missed. Spent a long trying to figure that out.

While you can't right now, I have heard that fan demand had them consider it. I suppose they're looking into how to do it/if it's worth risking people buying backissues over volumes.B wrote:And i'm almost certain you can't buy back copies of issues you missed. yeahhhh I'm happy because i finally managed to keep up with this.
Even though isnt as cool as used to be, toriyama-sama art is stil good. I'm liking the chapters pacing and jaco is a funny character
