There is something seemingly going on, either a full remake or a Kai-like remaster where they go back and touch up the old episodes and remove the filler scenes and episodes.
It's assumed that if this remake/remaster is real, then it will move past the tournament and into the Broly and Moro era of Super.

They have to do a serialization of the Orange Piccolo and Gohan vs Cell Max saga. The fans love the new transformation of Piccolo and they also love the Gohan/Piccolo team, everyone's tired of arcs revolving around Goku and Vegeta only.
Re: Dragon Ball Genkida Matsuri 2026 on january 25th will have Dragon Ball announcements
When I introduce people to Super I show them Battle of Gods/Resurrection F instead of the anime counterparts because of the quicker pacing and better animation. But if they did an anime version of Super Hero in 2D with all the Goten and Trunks superhero stuff, that actually has a chance of turning out better than the movie. I'm curious to see what they do for all this. I really hope whatever it is they're making is in 2D. Super Hero looked decent, but I don't want that to be the norm from now on.

I was so worried about the possibility of a remake that it didn’t even cross my mind that instead of an actual remake like what One Piece is going to get with the WIT anime, they’d give it a simple remaster. The Dark Knight wrote: Sat Dec 20, 2025 1:57 amThere is something seemingly going on, either a full remake or a Kai-like remaster where they go back and touch up the old episodes and remove the filler scenes and episodes.

The more I think about it, them bringing back Yamamuro makes so much more sense if it's a simple remaster. And a remaster is so damn unnecessary. I'd rather have something new but if they absolutely have to do this then I'd rather take a full remake.

A remaster would actually be better if you're waiting for new content, as they can have a smaller team work on the remaster under Yamamuro's guidance, while the main team with all the top animators can work on the newer material in the background. This way we can jump straight into Broly and Moro the week after the Tournament of Power concludes, rather than having to wait an additional few years for the team to recharge their batteries.IntangibleFancy wrote: Sun Dec 21, 2025 12:01 amThe more I think about it, them bringing back Yamamuro makes so much more sense if it's a simple remaster. If they're going to do a new edit of Dragon Ball Super, not actually just full-on redoing large swathes of cuts with new animation from scratch is an awful idea. Learn from Gundam's legendary compilation films: actually do this shit so it's worthwhile.
Anyway, it's not happening as it is, so it's a moot point.

I wouldn’t mind too much if we knew the second project was actually new and interesting, but it could be an SD series for all we know or another remaster. The Dark Knight wrote: Sun Dec 21, 2025 1:02 amA remaster would actually be better if you're waiting for new content, as they can have a smaller team work on the remaster under Yamamuro's guidance, while the main team with all the top animators can work on the newer material in the background. I am guessing that weekly year-round non-stop format for Dragon Ball is over. I keep hearing that One Piece is moving to a 26 episode a year thing, so Dragon Ball would presumably not be run like that anymore either since they're both by the same studio. Maybe it might be year-round if it's a Kai type thing that doesn't require much animating, not like I actually know for sure. The Dark Knight wrote: Sun Dec 21, 2025 1:02 amA remaster would actually be better if you're waiting for new content, as they can have a smaller team work on the remaster under Yamamuro's guidance, while the main team with all the top animators can work on the newer material in the background. But yeah I would bet that the plan is to have One Piece and Dragon Ball share the same time slot. 26 episodes of One Piece followed by 26 episodes of Dragon Ball followed by another 26 episodes of One Piece, etc.
Re: Dragon Ball Genkida Matsuri 2026 on january 25th will have Dragon Ball announcements
I think Dragon Ball will still be weekly and it'll probably take over Digimon Beatbreak's slot.
One Piece is in a different situation since Oda is closing in on the final few years of the story and needs all the breaks he can get.
Dragon Ball on the other hand can go in a completely Anime-original direction now that Toei doesn't have to work with Toriyama's napkin scribbles.

Re: Dragon Ball Genkida Matsuri 2026 on january 25th will have Dragon Ball announcements
They actually don't have a choice with One Piece at this point. Besides entering the final stretch of the story as DBZ Macky said, Oda has reduced his manga output from the traditional 52 chapters a year to 36 this year; they don't have enough material to cover a non-stop anime anymore. If rumors are to be believed, that number could be further reduced next year as well. To bring it back to Dragon Ball, I can see them spending the first year or so on this alleged remaster, then another year or two on Broly, Moro, Granola, Superhero, and (assuming this is next) Black Freeza, which I think would be the final story of this Dragon Ball era.funrush wrote: Sun Dec 21, 2025 4:30 pmI keep hearing that One Piece is moving to a 26 episode a year thing, so Dragon Ball would presumably not be run like that anymore either since they're both by the same studio.
Re: Dragon Ball Genkida Matsuri 2026 on january 25th will have Dragon Ball announcements
That didn't start this year, Oda's been taking a week off every month for at least 4 years now. Partway into Wano I think. So that's not the sole reason for shrinking the episode count, although I imagine it's a big one as the story gets tighter and the wiggle room to start filler arcs shrinks. Part of me wonders if with The One Piece on the horizon, it's hurting morale over at One Piece because the animators are thinking they're working on an inferior version that's going to be replaced so maybe there's been some internal push from the animators to dump the 52 episode a week format that's prone to slow pacing and bad animation for something that will stand the test of time a little better. Or maybe it's a money thing and doing 26 is more economically useful in some way, idk.
If Super comes back I wonder how many arcs after Super Hero they're planning on doing. Black Freeza is a must, if they're cooking up another movie aside from the Black Freeza story then that would get an animation too. I wonder what else Toyble has up his sleeve, he must have some ideas he talked through with Toriyama.

The pacing won't improve, they’re doing this so that they can plan the anime's production easier without relying on random off-weeks without an episode as wsll as scheduling staff. They’re keeping to one chapter an episode.funrush wrote: Mon Dec 22, 2025 3:05 am That didn't start this year, Oda's been taking a week off every month for at least 4 years now. As for Dragon Ball: they can just so whatever they want at this point. They might decide that less episodes at a time works better for them or they might decide to keep up these long-running, consecutive cour series like they have been. It's up to their whims.
Re: Dragon Ball Genkida Matsuri 2026 on january 25th will have Dragon Ball announcements
Nice joke. Toei's One Piece anime is the one many have loved since decades now, crazy how someone already called it inferior to a product that doesn't even have a single episode out. And it'll take until 2039 or something to finish that one too.funrush wrote: Mon Dec 22, 2025 3:05 am Part of me wonders if with The One Piece on the horizon, it's hurting morale over at One Piece because the animators are thinking they're working on an inferior version that's going to be replaced
The Toei OP anime isn't going anywhere either, it's the one that will reach the conclusion first, and the one the whole world is looking at. A remake is just that, yet another remake in a sea full of them.

Prior to the break at the start of this year (The one where they aired that atrocious Kai-ified Fishman Island instead which somehow managed to take what was arguably the worst arc of the anime and make it even worse), the pace was more like 0.7 chapters per episode, with occasional full-chapter episodes. After the show came back, one chapter an episode has been the minimum, and the past five or six episodes were more like one and a half chapters per ep. In fact, quite ironically, the very next episode after the one where they said "From now on we're aiming for a pace of one chapter = one episode" covered more than that, and so has every episode since.JulieYBM wrote: Mon Dec 22, 2025 5:19 am The pacing won't improve, they’re doing this so that they can plan the anime's production easier without relying on random off-weeks without an episode as wsll as scheduling staff. ...That might be just a one-off thing because they wanted to wrap up the Egghead arc this year, but I really hope this ends up being a thing they are willing to spring for at least sometimes. Honestly, during dialogue-heavy world-building chapters, one chapter to an episode often feels sufficient (In fact I think the early eps of Egghead were better for covering less than that; Oda barely gave us any time to actually get attached to the setting before he started blowing it up), but for more action-focused chapters, it's hard to really get a satisfying episode from a single 18-page chapter.

Re: Dragon Ball Genkida Matsuri 2026 on january 25th will have Dragon Ball announcements
I don't know what to think about the idea of a Super remake, that show had a lot of bumps but I feel like having a redo of a 10 year old show is a little odd instead of trying to create something new out of the arcs from the manga or remaking Dragon Ball which is almost 40 right now. Honestly I'd also be down for just something completely new too.
Re: Dragon Ball Genkida Matsuri 2026 on january 25th will have Dragon Ball announcements
I think it's kind of hilarious that all of these supposed Dragon Ball announcements aren't happening right now, at JUMP Festa, but at a completely separate event. It goes to show the divide between Shueisha and Capsule Corp Tokyo.
The faster pacing for the past few episodes was simply to end the arc before December because of available broadcast slots. There's no way that they're going to burn into their tiny backlog of chapters, especially at the beginning of an arc, when they need to be building up a backlog so they know when and what they're doing. One Piece (1999) is going to remain excruciatingly slow paced for the rest of time. At most, they'll make the last episode of whatever season adjusted so that it at least feels like a season finalé, which might include slightly more or less comic material, but the likelihood of actual, significantly quicker pacing is just not going to happen while Oda's barely churning out chapters—especially not with how uneven One Piece in general is.Vegard Aune wrote: Mon Dec 22, 2025 5:42 amPrior to the break at the start of this year (The one where they aired that atrocious Kai-ified Fishman Island instead which somehow managed to take what was arguably the worst arc of the anime and make it even worse), the pace was more like 0.7 chapters per episode, with occasional full-chapter episodes. Wouldn't that mean the supposed remake wouldn't have access to manga content, if they're still divided and the case isn't settled? Shueisha owns the manga rights, don't they?JulieYBM wrote: Mon Dec 22, 2025 11:11 am I think it's kind of hilarious that all of these supposed Dragon Ball announcements aren't happening right now, at JUMP Festa, but at a completely separate event.
