DragonBall Z Season 4 Set...
Episode 139
I find this weird. On Episode 138 or 139,i hear a vocal insert song. So if this song was included, why were the others removed?
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Re: Episode 139
In the Japanese version or English version? They've always been kept in the Japanese version, but the English version has been inconsistent; sometimes they keep them in, though the mostly cut them out. It doesn't make sense how they choose, since sometimes they'll play a song in one episode, yet cut the very same song later (this happened with "Mezase Tenkaichi" in Dragonball)Raki wrote:I find this weird. Amen. I no longer have a problem with the dub because Ihave no reason to watch it.Kunzait_83 wrote:Anywho, as far as the 4th Big Orange Brick goes, I just love how almost 90% of the bullshit that keeps everyone bitching about these sets can all magically disappear simply by switching on Japanese with English subs. So apart from the usual cropping and remastering garbage, I’m as sound as a pound with this set no different than I was with the first three, and likely the ones still to come.

:nods in agreement with Raki and Kunzait: That's pretty much the truth about everything in Dragonball's dubs. I watch DB stuff subbed only but since I review these sets on amazon, I have to listen to the dub to see if anything was worth noting and it's usually been a terrible, "I regret doing that" experience.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

I remember all of those references, but the thing I've always been unsure about is whether or not the audience is supposed to take it at face value. For instance is it merely supposed to be a joke that Satan has recently been introduced to Dende/Kami-sama and is now asking for repentance? Or similarly, are the gang's reactions just part of a hilarious miscommunication or something more? That's why I question the translation. And then there's also the idea that the position of Kami-sama was earned by an exceptional but still mortal being, and that this seems to be a reoccuring situation.Kunzait_83 wrote:Anyway yeah, especially when viewing original DB in Japanese, it's more than apparent that Kami was originally intended to be viewed as that God. Note the scenes at the tail end of the Daimao saga/early Ma Junior saga where Goku returns to the Kame house to recover his Nyoi Bo. He starts babbling on about how he's about to travel into "Heaven" to meet "God". Note how all his friends then look at Goku like he’s a complete mental patient. You don’t get THOSE kinds of glares from people if you’re merely talking about going to a Lookout to meet some random guy with a divine position.Vekurotto wrote:There are numerous instances and evidence, in the Japanese version at least, that they take the meaning of Kami-sama as the God. Kami sees everything, that goes on on the Earth, he knows all, and he lives in the Heavenly Realm (which is called Kami's Lookout in the dub). In DB when Goku and Karin were were talking about meeting Kami Yajirobe would always say things like "But Kami-sama(god) doesn't exist.". Mr. Satan also tried to repent to Dende after he was mean to him in the Boo saga.MyVisionity wrote:I've never really been convinced that Toriyama intended for the character to literally be God in the story.
I totally agree. As a fan of the first movie's story I've always thought that it was a great idea to bring it back for some filler episodes, and the story wasn't that bad. They could have found worse ways to make filler.Maron still sucks obviously, but apart from that it’s actually pretty decent, especially if you’re a fan of the first DBZ movie (which also happens to be my personal fave of the bunch). At least IMO.
It's more like they're trying to make fun of religion. That all this time the God that some people on Earth believed to exist and worshiped was in fact a mortal (albeit nonhuman) being who himself pales when compared to those who lord over him. Do you think Goku was a little disappointed when he finally "met God?"MyVisionity wrote:And then there's also the idea that the position of Kami-sama was earned by an exceptional but still mortal being, and that this seems to be a reoccuring situation.

Start of Trunks episodes:
Yamcha: Cat loves food, uguh, yeah, yeah, yeah!
Also in the episode where Vegeta trains in 400 times gravity then falls down, the sound of falling is still there, a stupid insert funimation did was never removed.
I actually thought the dub for dragonball was pretty good (well watchable), but dbz is just horrible! I've turned on Japanese subtitles during the dub and it's like a whole different script!
(done venting)

Goku: "Look Vegeta! People popcorn!"
Vegeta: "What is he on?"
Vegeta: "What is he on?"
Yeah, it's horrible aside from a few good lines speckled here and there. The dub doesn't get overall watchable/good until Buu, really. Until then, I've been and will contine watching in Japanese.KillerCory wrote:I actually thought the dub for dragonball was pretty good (well watchable), but dbz is just horrible! Also, GT's dub was surprisingly accurate in it's script, but the horrid music made it painful to watch. I'm hoping FUNi has plans for a GT release similar to these Season Sets.

Can't they just make the release double-sided so there could be just one release of GT? And I don't get it, why would they release GT before Dragon Ball? Sheesh, Dragon Ball is more rare. You can't find it anywhere practically, certainly not for any normal price (I got lucky that I got the whole thing for $220!). Yet GT is still on the Z Store. Man, I don't get their train of thought. Imagine of they make the re-release of GT and DB different than DBZ. Like they release one in 4:3 or something. Would be funny. I guess it doesn't matter to me because they released GT consistently and I have it, same with Dragon Ball (but I was getting worried, the prices were insane and too much of a headache. I got LUCKY through Ebay). Z I understand because they didn't release the rest of the "Vegeta" and Namek Sagas, but GT and DB? Why redo it if you have consistent sets of it? To make it "the way it was never meant to be seen"? The greatest thing about it, is: for those people who don't want to spend money for four box-sets of GT, they can just get two of these babies. Unless they make them have like 15-20 episodes each. I mean come on, the more Z comes out, the less episodes they have.

It's only rare in the US, you can still order the singles (and boxes) directly from madman, I got all of Dragonball for under $200.TheGreatness25 wrote: And I don't get it, why would they release GT before Dragon Ball? And as for GT, lost episode debacle aside, it is the closest Funi have ever gotten to a perfect release, we have it uncut and bilingual, with the next episode previews intact, so I don't understand them wanting to fuck it up with widescreen, because Funi's masters for GT, look great compared to their masters for Z.

Well the set I bought for $220 came with the Region 4 Australian Saga of Goku, so my set is consistent. I mean yeah it's weird, but who's stupid enough to sell the first 13 episodes to Liongate after redubbing them? And then they went and took off whatever Dragon Ball they had on the Z Store. Might've been imperfect in the United States, but all it was missing was the first 13 episodes and the Curse of the Blood Rubies, which they released with the Ocean dub. I mean just because it's missing 13 episodes doesn't meant that they should completely phase it out. At this rate, you can't get any DB in the US.
By the way, I didn't even know that they had "Dragon Ball: The Complete Series vol. 1 and vol. 2"! What the hell? Guess it's an Asutralian exclusive. If I would've known that, I would've just gotten a hold of those. Having 2 huge boxes is better than having a bunch of singles. Then again, I'm happy that I got the series regardless. And getting it for $220, $230 when you count the shipping, I think is the same. When you add in the tax and the shipping from Madman, it should come out to more than $230.

I, for one, would be more than willing to put up with the widescreen (which I already do, actually) if it meant the GT dub with the Japanese music. It'd be FUNi's overall best dubbed DragonBall yet.Captain Awesome wrote: And as for GT, lost episode debacle aside, it is the closest Funi have ever gotten to a perfect release, we have it uncut and bilingual, with the next episode previews intact, so I don't understand them wanting to fuck it up with widescreen, because Funi's masters for GT, look great compared to their masters for Z.

Oh absolutely! I put up with the Widescreen as well, but that's beside the point. You are absolutely right. GT's music was disgusting. And the original Japanese music blows it all away. Faulconer's music sounds godly compared to GT's, and when they went back to do the Ultimate Uncut series, to be honest.

I couldn't even hear the actors the in GT dub, my ears were clogged with blood thanks to Menza's music.SSj Kaboom wrote: I, for one, would be more than willing to put up with the widescreen (which I already do, actually) if it meant the GT dub with the Japanese music. Who ever came up with the GT rap screwed up the whole feel of the english dub. Ruined for life.
As for season 4, I think it's the best orange brick yet. I dont know if this has already been covered, but to me it looks like seasons 1 &2 were more "Cropped"
Still dont understand why they would take out the songs...

Aren't the Dragon Ball: The Complete Series vol. 1 and vol. 2" just box sets with all the singles in it? But maybe you just mean it would be nice to have a box to hold them all in, lol, in which case I agree with youTheGreatness25 wrote:By the way, I didn't even know that they had "Dragon Ball: The Complete Series vol. 1 and vol. 2"! Heck yeah. I already got the Dragon Ball series shipped to me and I have to say... My closet is pretty full of singles right now lol I hate it when there's no box to put them in. Most of my stuff is in box sets, but my Dragon Ball series, Ultimate Uncut, Frieza, Great Saiyaman, and Majin Buu Sagas are all without a box and it just looks more disorganized. I can make them as straight and nice looking as I want, but still. And the movies... God lol
Ah, Dragon Ball looks so beautiful with how all the boxes match lol They look a lot like the Manga, with the color scheme.
Oh and the Australian DVDs are MUCH Better than the US ones! They have a see-through box, and since you can see through from the inside, it has the episodes list on the other side of the cover, so you can read it when opening the box. Since DB is double-sided, on the American ones, when you open it, it doesn't have those hooks for the booklet, just two slots for the disks on each side of the box. So the booklet with the episodes list is just...inside not attached to anything. Plus, the US DB menu is so plain and just a black screen with a couple of characters on it. The Australian menu is colorful and just looks better.
