FUNimation DBZ TV Blu-ray Official On-Going Thread
Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Sorry to ask something that probably already been covered but hey this threads really long. In any case on the first post it says that
"•Will contain all audio tracks used in Season Sets in Lossless format, for the most part."
So will the Blu ray releases have 3 audio settings?
1. Funi dialog / Funi music
2. Funi dialog / original Japanese music
3. original Japanese dialog and music
I would really like all 3 and IIRC the dragon boxes only had the original japanese music. Actually the ultimate version for me would be one that let you mix any combination of dialog and music with Funi/Ocean/original but I can live with 3.
And what does it mean "for the most part"?

Yes it does have those 3.dario03 wrote:Sorry to ask something that probably already been covered but hey this threads really long. In any case on the first post it says that

English: Dolby TrueHD 5.1 (Funi Dub and Japanese BGM)
English: Dolby TrueHD 2.0 (Funi Dub and BGM)
Japanese: DolbyTrueHD Mono (Japanese Dub and BGM)
And about the 'for the most part' I'm guessing the lossless audio included in all (probaly the earlier ones won't be lossless)
I to would love one with Ocean/Funi/Original but it will most probably never happen.
EDIT:
On a review on 1.1 it says, quote:
Code: Select all
FUNimation has provided three lossless offerings on this Blu-ray, the English dub in Dolby TrueHD 5.1 with the original Japanese music, the original English language broadcast version (with broadcast version music) in Dolby TrueHD 2.0 and the original Japanese track (with Japanese music) in Dolby TrueHD mono.Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Ok cool, but since it says original English broadcast version does that mean they're the censored versions? I'm guessing its not, based on the amount of episodes but technically wasn't the original Funimation broadcast version censored and cut.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
The Ultimate Uncut Editions were not remastered, they were just encoded better. There's less macroblocking, and it looks a little sharper due to the encoding, but it still is visibly damaged and not very well encoded.

These aren't deinterlaced properly but you can still tell that they don't look great. Not to say they're bad, but you can tell the UUCs are nowhere near the Dragon Box. If you think I'm nitpicking, I jumped to a random spot and paused, and this is what I got.

Yay, I see region A & B. I was getting a little worried seeing sites like Plantaxel saying region A only while on 1.1 they had A&B.Craddle wrote:First Level 1.2 unboxing on YT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiXujOqsUlA (Not my vid btw)

I wanted to do one of these things, too:

Is the image on the Dragon Box stretched out to some extent? It seems like it comparing it to the Blu-ray.
So mondo lame.
Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
I give it to the Blu-Ray. Much sharper in image quality and doesn't look blurred compared to Kai and the Dragon Box.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
You also get slightly more picture with the Blu-ray. The Dragon Box picture is a bit zoomed in.

Here's a comparison of sorts between the same two scenes.
One is Dragon Box. The other is Blu-Ray.
Ocean Dub Audio.

Love the Blu-ray! Too bad it's such a small picture for the comparisonpenguintruth wrote:I wanted to do one of these things, too:
Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
All NTSC DVDs are stretched to an extent; they're encoded at 720x480, which isn't 4:3. It's sort of an intermediate size that the units stretch to 4:3 and 16:9, but I suspect it was picked more for the pixel ratio.GotenDaisuki wrote:Is the image on the Dragon Box stretched out to some extent? The good thing about Blu-ray is they're stored in the proper aspect so long as the source is 720p or above.
Thank you. I kept saying this over on the Kai boards and people sort of mocked me. Which is crazy when... pretty much every scene that's redone had crazy flicker effects in the original.KiddoCabbusses wrote:One thing I noticed is that a lot of the reanimated scenes are of ki attacks and other notable instances of flashing lights in the original show. This seems to tell me that much of these were done just to get the show on Japanese broadcast airwaves in a post "Pokemon Shock" Japan.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
I'm feeling tempted to get these for the Nathan Johnson score. Also I wonder if Funimation will skip DBOX The Movies and do their own remaster for the movies that's similar to the Blu Rays of the series.

If it was just gonna consist of pictures, you might as well have posted them here so they'd at least be in good quality.Gonstead wrote:Just uploaded a comparison between all the releases. from the Original DVD's up to Blu-Ray.
