So out of curiosity, I've recently started watching comparisons of the different versions around the world. For example, here's a comparison of Trunks killing Freeza between Japanese, English, German, Hungarian, the Mexican Spanish dub, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, and French. Whew! Nine versions total!

So the Dragon Boxes in Japan had an extra where they showcased different international versions of the series, albeit different scenes and not a comparison. I think it would be pretty cool if FUNimation threw together something similar for here, anyone else see an international comparison on any of the North American Dragon Boxes?

Sub only DVDs aren't that uncommon. I own several (I can think of Muteki Kanban Musume and Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan off the top of my head). Put it this way, it you bought an old Hong Kong martial arts movie and it only had subtitles, you would think it was "defective," right? Granted, a lot more anime DVDs have English dubs than not, but that doesn't in any way mean we're "entitled" to a dub or that a DVD with no dub is somehow "defective." It's just not worth the money for some people.

Outside Funimation, many studios are moving towards sub-only releases. It's quite cheaper.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I have a movie called Kuro Obi (Black Belt) that doesn't have an English dub. It made it probably half the price it would've been had the company releasing it here taken the time to make a dub.

Viz also still makes some good dubs.

You mean the comapnies Viz outsources to make good dubs. FUNimation is really the only one who does things in house. Other companies outsource to Los Angeles or Canada.

And--as much as I hate to say it--4Kids also works in-house.

FUNimation should start hiring some new guys. I'm getting pretty tired of hearing the same actors in half of the anime I watch.

You have to remember that Viz handles scripts, as well.

Bleach and Gash Bell(or Zatch Bell) are both Viz products, and they half-assed Gash.

That's not the most cost efficient.

Besides, most of those actors are also a part of the crew and cast according to who they know they can achieve this vision for a dub.

The voice actors are treated as contracted labor, so there is no reason that they can't start using different people. It's not like they are actually obligated to use these people over and over again.

Many of them are the faces of FUNimation and are reliable employees. There really isn't any need to drop them, espicially when they don't work with just the same ten actors they did in the DragonBall days.

Holy storm of heavens! What massive pages! I have been gone for nearly a week and it boomed to 120 pages!!!

Is it worth going back to the page where I left off and read them all the way to here?

Generally no, because very little new information concerning this release has been revealed-- it's 122 pages of speculation and outside conversation, basically.

The only "new" information that's worth mentioning is that Steve Simmons has apparently been contracted to work on something in addition to the Next Episode Previews for this release.

I'm banking on Plan to Erradicate the Saiyans. It may seem far-fetched at first, but think about it, havn't they bought the rights to the footage along with these masters? What's the point in tossing it asid when they know the fans want it?

I'm also thinking that it'll be Plan to Eradicate the Saiyajin. I think I talked about it like forty pages back...

I just see no reason for them to buy the DBox masters and not get PtEtS. FUNi has to know that the fans want it, and this would be the perfect chance to release it.

Why in the Jesus would Funi put something from the Cell saga on a Saiyan saga set? It's most likely NOT the Playdia footage. Stop hoping for it. If it were something like that, I think Funi would advertise it heavily since it'd be its first release outside of Japan.

Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Did Simmons say he was working on something besides episode previews specifically for the FIRST dragonbox release? The way I took it, he just said that he was indeed working on something for DBZ besides the first episode previews.

I doubt that Funi's working on anything for the next few Dragon Boxes atm. Hell, they don't even encode their DVDs until a month and half before they're released, so I don't think they're in a rush to get to Vol. 2

From what it seems, people tend to be forgetting that there are going to be seven Dragon Boxes, not just one or two. If the extras you're looking or hoping for - Plan to Eradicate the Saiya-jin a prime example - aren't on this one, it can be on one of the other six.

Besides, I agree with jjgp, it would make no sense to put the Playdia stuff on the Saiya-jin arc set. If this one has any extras, it'll probably be a bit on the light side.
