Man, I just watched Geekdom's video about this animation catalogue and people in the comment section did not seem to get the purpose of the video and it seems that they did not watch the entire of the god damn video! smh..

Something in episode 53 that I didn't really take note of until my friend pointed it out to me.

The string here is actually really nicely animated for some reason (and the hands in the first GIF). I know it's a tiny detail, but It amused me after it was pointed out to me.
Maybe this is what Higashide spent most of his time on in this episode :P

Episode 54

Image

Animation Supervisors
Shimanuki Masahiro

Key Animators
Sasakado Nobuyoshi Higashide Futoshi Hirabayashi Takashi Yagi Genki Tezuka Emi Shimanuki Masahiro Kato Yoshitaka

2nd Key Animator
Tsuji Miyako Yokoyama Miyuki Tu Yeong-chaek Zhang Zheng TAP

--

Well that was absolutely Shimanuki's landmark episode for this series. He put 200% into that and you could definitely tell. First episode in a long ass time (outside of Yashima's episode) where we've had a single supervisor. Wonderful stuff. One of the best Super episodes in a good while.

Pretty cool to see Sasakado Nobuyoshi pop up. He's a very talented animator! Did a lot of stuff for Saint Seiya in the past. He popped up in the past, but I never really noticed anything noteworthy. Of course, Higashide also returns because I'm convinced that man is literally the Terminator.

Most of the episode looked surprisingly polished, I missed the second image training scene and all but the very beginning and ending of Trunks vs Vegeta.
I am legitimately surprised that Shimanuki was the only Supervisor and that the staff list was so small, that's a pretty good sign considering how the episode turned out.

I couldn't tell who the NEP was at all.

A very solid episode visually. Shimanuki is truly returning to his best. The nightmare sequence that Future Trunks had of Goku Black was particularly impressive.

So another week off and the next episode still isn't Tate.
I'm starting to feel really good about his next episode, especially after today's episode and seeing how completely normal the staff was.
So who do we think is getting 56 and 57?
I'm betting 56 is Tate and 57 is Karasawa.

Never thought I'd see the day where Goku was consistent in an episode.

Another break next week. 2 breaks in one month span. They HAVE to use this time to get schedule back on track.

Well it feels like this episode might have benefited from the previous week off (certainly a lot more than the last episode). I'm getting really excited for Tate and Karasawa's next episodes.

2 out of 2 amazingly well done episodes in trunks arc by Shimanuki, definitely my favourite so far

Longer version of the NEP
Still can't figure out who might be supervising, but there are some weird noses at points.

Updated with the image above.

As for next week, it looks like Toma and someone new, perhaps?

Not entirely sure where Onishi is in this rotation now, but not seeing his touch anywhere there. Some bits reminded me of Sadatoshi Matsuzaka... shudder

Hmmm, Maybe Onishi is paired with Karasawa next or maybe even doing 58. Hell, maybe this episode was a sign of things to come and we're going to be seeing a single supervisor on each non action episode.

yea some things in the preview did remind me of Toma. However not all of that looked like this work though.

Here's Shimanuki's big fight scene:

There's a little bit of '2nd KA clean-up' Higashide peppered throughout, but otherwise, most of the close-ups are Shimanuki.

I think that might be Sasakado's work, but I haven't really studied his style enough to know for sure.
