Wow that was a good read. :D
I've been wanting to read a review so badly; thank you omae no kaasan. :3

I can't think of anything to add really, that was so incredibly in-depth. ^^

A reboot would be nice, but I'm afraid DB's franchise isn't big enough to be allowed a second shot the way Marvel and DC can reboot their franchises when movies turn out not the way they expected. :(
On hiatus.

Nice review. So, as I assumed, the movie is a jumbled mess it sounds like. Much like FUNimation's box sets that try to combine "Hip" English dialogue with "OMG GHEY" Japanese BGM, the movie seems a bit confused in who it's trying to target.

Oh well, I'll wait for it to hit the Bittorrent trackers...I mean, *cough*.

Excellent synopsis. I'm still looking forward, but now I know what to expect. Maybe now that my expectations are even lower, I'll enjoy the film a little more.

Dude, seriously? I don't even think FUNimation claims that their corny dialog is "hip." Also, the Faulkner background music is still there and was switched to the default track after season 4.

That's why it's only a wish

It's just a term, I'm not saying FUNimation ever said it themselves (though I wouldn't be surprised if they did).

Really? Guess it was rejected by the target demographic. Though, the selling point of the sets originally was the "digitally remastered" footage and "5.1 soundtrack." So...oh well.

Wow. So even the final battle was lame? Marsters didn't do well as Piccolo?
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

I was just about to ask that, too. Greg, what'd you think of Piccolo?

Where is the ending clip??

From where I saw it, it was removed by FOX. I've seen every other clip besides it and I'd really like to see it Crying or Very sad

Thanks.

I assume it has something to do with the casual DBZ fan remembering the music differently. "Seasons" 4 through 9 were played on Cartoon Network with that music therefore it's set as default.

Also, the dub music is in 5.1 and so is the Original BGM.

Season's 1, 2 and 3 were also played on CN with "that music," hence it being the "Broadcast Audio Track" or whatever the exact name they give it is. Weird that they bumped it to 5.1 though, since the first set definitely only had the broadcast track in 2.0 stereo. You sure about that?

(By "original BGM," I take it you mean the English w/Japanese BGM track, right?)

I know for a fact the Dub music isn't in 5.1. It's only in 5.1 on the Double Features for some strange reason. :?

Hmmm... That is weird. I didn't know that the dub bgm track isn't in 5.1. I didn't know that the FUNimation dub of the first three seasons were broadcasted either. So, I guess, no... I'm not sure about that.

(Last time I'll go off topic, sorry to derail at all)

The FUNi dub, or the "Ultimate Uncut Edition" dub, of seasons 1 and 2 were broadcast on CN in 2005-2006 I think. Season 3, of course, was the first season FUNimation did, which was broadcast in 1999 (again, I think). Amusingly enough, the Ultimate Uncut Edition DVD's did have the uncut broadcast track in 5.1, but that was seemingly killed for the Season Sets and replaced with a standard 2.0 stereo track.

Poor, poor James.
That was mean of me. But in all honesty, while writing that I completely and totally forgot about him. Which...is more insulting than any kind of rant I could produce.

He's not a bad Piccolo, the Piccolo they create is just plain bad.

But it's like some sort of ninja bad that slowly sneaks up on you because for all interested parties, he does provide quite an entrance as he blows up an entire village with a ki blast in a very Daimao-like scene.

And you think, "Wow! This could be a good thing!"

But then, they kind of forget that he's in the movie. We mostly see his unexplained avatar Mai running from place to place doing his bidding.

Occassionally he walks around being spooky and says a few words.

From time to time he has his blood drawn to create unexplained mutants.

And in the end he has a couple lines talking about the dominion he holds over Oozaru.

Despite the rather clever intro he's about as fleshed out as a Hercules or Xena villain.

And this was about my worst fear. James is a great actor and a cool guy, so I'm sad to see him underutilized. He also seemed to be the one cast member who was genuinely interested in the project. Oh well.

What is this scene you referred to that breaks into the credits? You have me curious.

It's not something I want to talk about because I think I remained fairly calm throughout the majority of the viewing. Even the over-the-top sappy ending with Goku VS Chichi being presented as something even remotely exciting didn't get my blood boiling. It was the stinger in the credits that actually got a rise out of me.

If you're not interested please do not read because it's a spoiler.

I said it's a spoiler, stop reading if you're not interested.

Okay then. We see a woman from the village destroyed by Piccolo stirring a broth. We watch this over her shoulder for a while as she delicately ladels it into a bowl and walks out of the room.

Who is this soup for!!!???

Certainly not Piccolo because that would be absurd.

But who!?

Could it possibly be...a weary injured traveller she found in the woods with a widow's peak that came from a space pod!?

A little baby green thing spat forth from Piccolo in a scene we weren't shown!!???

Could it be a Frankenstein-like creature she decided to care for???!!!

Could it be some sort of strange bug-like creature she's caring for!????

Oh! Bed sheets! Bed sheets hiding something! For the love of God what is it! Oh she put a warm towel on it! What does that mean!???

The sheets! They're being pulled back!!!!

OH PLEASE TELL ME WHAT GREAT MYSTERY LIES WITHI-

oh...it's Piccolo...
