Did Toma do some scenes in this episode? I saw some really nice thick outlined shots that looked like something he'd do.

No it was not toma. However I think it was Tezuka Emi, he was also in Episode 4.

Definitely one of the best-looking episodes of this saga, Shimanuki’s current Goku is one of my favorites. The expressions were spot on.

Good episode, I liked the animation, the only thing I don't like is Shimanuki's wide faces.
Well, if there is actually no episode next week then the schedule should be ok or almost ok by then. I mean, Otsuke said he was working on a Super episode like 2 months ago, I know that doesn't mean he started working on it in that time but maybe he was working on it 2 or 3 weeks later.

Man, Shimanuki really did do pretty great this week. Sato Masanori delivered one of his better storyboard efforts in quite some time too. Lots of cool angles. There's pretty much nothing else I can add about Higashide, he's a monster!

I've been craving a Tate episode. I really hope that his next episode is already planned and ready to go. The thought of Tate getting potentially 10 weeks to work on and polish his work makes me pretty damn excited.

I didn't think this was very good. Higashide is still spreading himself too thin. He needs to put his foot down and only work on segments where he has the time to put together something good. He and Tate should work exclusively together so that there is at least one good episode in the rotation.

I disagree. What he's been putting out is more than good enough for me and it'd be a shame if we got much less of it

Yeah, I personally would rather have Higashide get the time to do something really nice too. I'd rather have something great every now and again than constant "good". Heck, him and Tate could probably animate an entire episode by themselves if they wanted to. Speaking of which, I wouldn't be suprised if Tate was capable of soloing his next episode if he really has just been working on it all this time.

The quality of most of the episodes in this arc has been pretty solid and we don't even know what Tate's next episode will look like, so I think it's premature for anyone to be saying they should focus everything on a single supervisor.
Besides, I'm pretty sure the entire reason Higashide is doing so much work this arc is to keep up the overall quality.

That's the problem. They're too worried about overall quality and as a result every episode winds up being mediocre. The production is in too poor a shape for that.

Not an expert but I thought the animation last episode was fairly good. Watching the Cell Games with Goku the other night and most of the actual fight animation isn't very good except a few spots. It's given me a bit more understanding of how good this Arc in Super has actually been.

This last episode is decent art wise everything was consistent however still don't like the angular faces it looks too much like One Piece. I also wonder how well animated the Trunks Special will be it will probably be on par or a little better than Episode #47.

Next episode doesn't seem to be really interesting, there were some shots that I didn't like at all, does anybody know who is animating it?
The thing that really bothered me, was that blood censure in the Trunks vs Black scene, why the hell did they make the blood white? I don't know if it is because of the image training or it was real censure but I didn't like that.

They did that many times in Z if I'm not mistaken what instance I can think of is when Nappa punched off part of Tien's arm. The blood was colored was yellow but I know what you mean, if feels like Toei is censoring too much to cater to the younger audience.

Dragon Ball Z aired on a Wednesday night prime time slot while Super airs on Sunday mornings, plus general standards for children's programming in Japan have changed over the last 10 years. I feel like we had this discussion a million times with Kai.

Keeping the overall quality of the show at an acceptable level is far more important than putting out one amazingly animated episode every two months. This show isn't being made for animation buffs nor is it being adapted from readily available source material letting people pop in whenever they want to see their favorite moments animated, they need to keep people coming back every week.
And again, we have no idea what Tate's next episode will look like, it's going to be 11 weeks at the very least since his last episode so for all we know it will look amazing. Your complaint about how they are using the staff is premature because we're still missing a big piece of the picture right now.

-Episode 54-

Almost perfect!! Shimanuki is one of my favourite supervisors since the Fake Monaka episode an he was been proving why.
Love everything except the character's big faces he draws sometimes, like some people already point out. He needs to work on that. I do like his face expressions and all the rest is fantastic.

In particular. his Goku pleases me a lot:

It still doesn't make sense, because One Piece airs right after Super and has a lot of blood. Both are shonens from Toei that air on Sunday morning.

I don't care about Tate, but even I am curious to see how his next episode will turn out.
He has been given much more time than the other supervisors, and even the Gods are helping the production of this arc with so many weeks off.
I'm curious to see what he will pull off.

It would a surprise if his episode turns out to have everyone we've been waiting for: Otsuka Ken, Shida, of course Higashide the Savior and written by King Ryu.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Favourite old DB Animators: Masaki Sato and Tadayoshi Yamamuro
Favourite new DB Animators: Yuya Takahashi and Chikashi Kubota

Does anyone know if Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru will do any work for Dragon Ball Super in the near future?
