Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
Wasn't the original insult that his mother's belly button sticks out? And then he goes, "How does he know about my mother?"
I guess that's not really an insult to Americans, so they changed it. Not a big deal, though.

I'll tell you now, no Anime that is currently on the market is 100% dead on.Kendamu wrote: It's not dead-on, but it's very accurate. There's a few liberties taken here and there, but they're few and far between and they really try to stick to the real script this time around.

Yeah, it really wouldn't mean anything in English now that I think about it. It's a pretty weird generic Japanese insult.penguintruth wrote:Wasn't the original insult that his mother's belly button sticks out? And then he goes, "How does he know about my mother?"

Man, I love this dub.
I cannot wait for this to arrive at my doorstep.

So the remastered sets aren't as accurate as this new Kai Dub? Because I was thinking of getting those...

If by "remastered sets" you mean the Dragonboxes, I'd still recommend picking them up.mystic trunks wrote:So the remastered sets aren't as accurate as this new Kai Dub? Because I was thinking of getting those...
But yeah, the Kai dub is more accurate, better casted, better directed... it's the best dub the show's ever gotten, with the POSSIBLE exception, MAYBE, of the first three movies from Ocean.

The remastered sets use the same dub as what aired on TV, of course.mystic trunks wrote:So the remastered sets aren't as accurate as this new Kai Dub? Because I was thinking of getting those...
The Dragon Ball Kai dub is a brand new, 2010 production. Accuracy was one of the goals when FUNimation was making it.

That's because no one likes the Speed Racer effect in dubs post 1985ish.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:I'll tell you now, no Anime that is currently on the market is 100% dead on.Kendamu wrote: It's not dead-on, but it's very accurate. Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
Is that why they speak like that? I haven't seen Speed Racer much (my dad showed me an episode a long time ago). I always thought thats just how the show was.
Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
But the "We will just talk fast to fit all dialogue into lip-flaps, oh ho!" effect is so charming. I love me some Speed Racer.Super Sonic wrote:That's because no one likes the Speed Racer effect in dubs post 1985ish.
Not Mach Go Go Go. Just Speed Racer. Because it's better when it's unintentionally hilarious.
What? DragonBall Kai?

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
The thing is, I want to see the full show. I have only seen the 276 episode version, not all 291. That is why I wanted the remastered sets. It seems Kai has the most accurate script, but it is only 100 episodes.KaiserNeko wrote:If by "remastered sets" you mean the Dragonboxes, I'd still recommend picking them up.mystic trunks wrote:So the remastered sets aren't as accurate as this new Kai Dub? Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
It's not gonna be 100 episodes, but it's definitely a cut down version of the whole thing. If you want the whole show, with all it's filler, get the DragonBoxes. If you want a cut-down version, with new music and whatnot, get Kai.mystic trunks wrote:The thing is, I want to see the full show. I have only seen the 276 episode version, not all 291. Well, then the Orange Bricks are your only way to go for the Faulconer soundtrack. Though you also get loss of detail, incredibly washed out colors on two of the sets, and cropped video.mystic trunks wrote:I would, but the thing is I'm a Dub fan. Or the singles which are good if you want the Faulconer soundtrack and don't want the cropping and the remastering. The only problem is: tracking all of them down.KaiserNeko wrote:Well, then the Orange Bricks are your only way to go for the Faulconer soundtrack. Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
Dude, the only thing you will be missing is some painfully slow episode padding and a couple of crappy filler arcs.mystic trunks wrote: The thing is, I want to see the full show. Is that really worth it?
