It would've been neat if he had taken over for Madono for Dragon Ball Kai instead of Midorikawa, but I get the feeling Kai couldn't have afforded him.kei17 wrote:And he was near-perfect that no one noticed it's not Suzuoki until seeing the ending credit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poOKRsI8kdA
I wish he voices Tenshinhan in the movie, too.

Ohhh yeah! Breaking out the ol' Dragonboxes and the singles movies I have (even though the japanese audio on the singles suck).Hellspawn28 wrote:Before the movie comes out, anyone plan to have a DBZ movie marathon? I'm planning to watch everything in order of release.. although I don't know when the movies are supposed to take place in the series. Like in between what episodes and such.

I'd have a marathon if the Funimation releases of the movies weren't complete garbage. And if 90 percent of the movies weren't garbage themselves.Hellspawn28 wrote:Before the movie comes out, anyone plan to have a DBZ movie marathon? Eh, maybe I'll watch the first Pioneer releases of the first three. Poor video quality aside, at least they have decent English dubs.

As much as I love the Pioneer releases, I'd sooner watch them in Japanese if I had DBox the Movies as both the picture and sound quality are really good! That, or I'd just watch the Big Green Dub for kicks.penguintruth wrote:I'd have a marathon if the Funimation releases of the movies weren't complete garbage. I might do a DBZ movie marathon if the DBZ Movies Boxes come out in the US. I do like doing a marathon for movies sometimes since I re-watch Alien 1-3 during the summer when Prometheus was coming out.

Read the update on the main page; the names aren't puns on Pilsner and Whiskey after all.
Kind of disappointed about that. I don't have a clue what the name puns are supposed to be then.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
So maybe the puns are virus (Japanese word for virus is "uirusu") and pills? (saw that suggestion somewhere earlier in the thread) "Birusu" also looks like it could be related to "virus", since 'b' sounds often substitute for 'v' sounds in Japanese, but I don't think that's a pronunciation of the word that anyone actually uses (plus, why would they base both new characters' names on different pronunciations of the same word?).
"Uisu" seems like it might be fairly straight forward (like the first part of the an English word like "whiskey" or "whistle"), but "birusu" might be a bit trickier. I wondered if it was a Japanese word mixed around, but none of the possibilities are actual words (subiru, surubi, rusubi...) If it is based off an English word, like "bills" or "pills", I wonder why it would be pluralized. Why not just "bill" or "pill"? Is there precedent in the Dragonball series for adding a 'su' at the end and making a pluralized English pun?
One thing that I thought of is that "uisu" is a Japanese approximation of the English word "with", but I don't see how "birusu" could be made into any related word. Then again, maybe the puns aren't related....
So I can't end this post about name speculation without tossing in the weirdest theory that came to mind. Since Birusu has the appearance of a hairless cat, I thought of another famous hairless cat: Mr. Bigglesworth from the Austin Powers movies. If you katakana-ized his name, the sounds 'bi', 'ru', and 'su' would all appear somewhere in the name. I would be pretty shocked if this were the source of the name, but we'll have to wait and see....

Yeah I saw that on Facebook from Daizenshuu EX.. so dissapointing! It would've been awesome if they really were alcohol-related. I wanted to see if FOX and/or FUNimation went through with the original names for the english dub.Chuquita wrote:Read the update on the main page; the names aren't puns on Pilsner and Whiskey after all.

Pretty awesome of the Kanzenshuu staff go actually contact one of the script writers themselves to find out if that was the source of the names or not. Now that's dedication!

You could be onto something there SailorSpazz, checking jisho.org looking up the word "virus", while "ウィルス" is the common form of the word, "ビールス" is also listed as an alternate spelling. So... ウイス and ビルス could be Vis and V'rus?

If that is Videl (Which I'm 85% sure it is.), her new outfit is amazing. I have to agree with you about the wedding. I would like to see that in the movie as well.Daimakku wrote:The Demon on the girl's shirt is the first thing I noticed. It has to be Videl. Like others noticed when the first leaked image popped up, it seems like everyone is at some kind of party, because of the drinks and formal wear. Some were saying it was Gohan's wedding, but if that girl is Videl, then that can't be true.. Gohan is wearing his Goku-like gi. I wonder what the party is for. I was really hoping it was Gohan and Videl's wedding, oh well!

They're blocked off. I looked at the old version of the poster; the next on the new one conveniently falls over top of Pilaf Gang.Sebastian wrote:Did they remove Pilaf's gang from the poster or are they just blocked off?
I do like the idea of Birusu being "Virus"; now that we know it isn't "Beer" or "Pils(ner)", "Virus" makes for a nice theory.
ビールス / Virus has a ー in there that Birusu does not, but you could make a reverse case that it's like how Vegeta's name has one ベジータ and how "vegetable" / ベジタブル does not.

Chichi would. I'd bet she would plan out the entire party, and find out that Goku completely forgot.penguintruth wrote:Like Goku would remember something like that.sonikku956 wrote:Call me crazy, but I think that this is the celebration of Goku's and Chichi's 20th anniversary.
Speaking of Chichi, is she on the poster?

I could totally see it being something Chi Chi would force him to attend and celebrate though, heh.penguintruth wrote:Like Goku would remember something like that.sonikku956 wrote:Call me crazy, but I think that this is the celebration of Goku's and Chichi's 20th anniversary.
Although...hmm. Stupid question, especially since Dragon Ball's world isn't Japan, but does Japan really observe marriage anniversaries, at least in the same way the US does? I've never heard it come up in any other show.

Haven't really kept on things but thought I'd ask, when this gets over here to the States, would you rather it still have Funimation's cast or be cast with big name celebs? (Know the former is more likely but thought I'd ask).
