If there is one thing I learned from Goodfellas it's that a small profit is still a profit. Still, VegettoEX is right, it's a huge dive(something I wasn't aware of until he pointed it out). I still think they will continue the series, but what do I know?Taku128 wrote:Is over $7,000,000 bad though? Just because it isn't doing as well as it used to doesn't mean it's doing poorly. ...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?
Re: Toriko animated series takes Kai's timeslot in April?!
By the way, what people don't seem to understand is this: Kai will finish at it's ending. Don't forget, Kai was advertised at "closer to the manga" and instantly failed at that by starting at the Saiyan Arc. So in sum, if it didn't start at the beginning, why are you expecting it to finish at the end?
Re: Toriko animated series takes Kai's timeslot in April?!
Because it started with Z, so one would at least expect it to end at the end of Z?DNA wrote:By the way, what people don't seem to understand is this: Kai will finish at it's ending. Re: Toriko animated series takes Kai's timeslot in April?!
It was advertised from the beginning as a new cut of Dragon Ball Z, as in, the anime series which consists the second half of the original Dragon Ball manga's story. It was never expected or claimed to cover the first half of the story as well. The Majin Boo arc is part of Dragon Ball Z, so yes, if they do indeed flake out and stop production of Kai before including it, then they are actually unduly cutting Kai short.

Bleh, whatever. I still think it would be much more cool to start at the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai, when Goku is already an adult. That way the whole angst with Piccolo wouldn't appear so much out of nowhere.

Err... maybe you forgot that there is a 5 mins recap of the "Dragon Ball" Anime series in the first episode of "Dragon Ball Kai" and it explains who is Piccolo or Ma Junior. So it's not appear as "out of nowhere".DNA wrote:Bleh, whatever. I still think it would be much more cool to start at the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai, when Goku is already and adult. Maybe you forgot that it takes more than 5 minutes to truly identify with a character and a simple narration is not the same as seeing events play out and understanding why each person acts the way they do.Goku100xKamehameha wrote: Err... maybe you forgot that there is a 5 mins recap of the "Dragon Ball" Anime series in the first episode of "Dragon Ball Kai" and it explains who is Piccolo or Ma Junior. Oh, Hi Toriko and One Piece crossover special airing April 3.
The real kicker? We still don't quite know what's going to happen with Kai. Nor did we ever get a Cross Epoch animated special.

I'd much rather have a Kochikame vs Dragon Ball animated special.JulieYBM wrote:Oh, Hi Toriko and One Piece crossover special airing April 3.

All this "getting replaced" makes me really dislike Toei. I'd rather not lump my frustration on Toriko, but the way Toei's gone about all this (between the slot change, the 3-D movie, this crossover, and a few live events in Japan) isn't helping.

According to a post on 2 channel, a regular feature of Kai on the newest TV Pia, a Japanese TV magazine, says "Now there are only 4 episodes left". In addition, on that feature, there is an interview with Takeshi Kusao, in which he says "I hope we'll get a chance to dub the Buu arc someday". I will check out the magazine today.

Aw, so it is the end.
So disappointing.
Ah well, at least I still have TFS; looking forward to see what Abridged does with the Buu arc.

You know, I'd probably be slightly less annoyed if Toriko didn't have a orange and blue jumpsuit in that image.JulieYBM wrote:Oh, Hi Toriko and One Piece crossover special airing April 3.

Hmm...very interesting...do you think you could find an upload of the interview with Kusao?kei17 wrote:According to a post on 2 channel, a regular feature of Kai on the newest TV Pia, a Japanese TV magazine, says "Now there are only 4 episodes left". Well, this is... disappointing to say the least. I don't really care about Kai as a japanese product, but I had desperately wanted a full good english dub of Dragon Ball Z. Oh well...
Re: Toriko animated series takes Kai's timeslot in April?!
Assuming that's true, one thing I'd love to see Funimation do (but they won't) is redub the DBZ version of the Buu Saga. It wasn't particularly bad originally, but it'd be a shame to waste having all of the actors working on the series just to hit Cell and be finished.

Re: Toriko animated series takes Kai's timeslot in April?!
That's my view on it too. In retrospect, I can see why Kai is doing poorly in Japan. There just wasn't that much thought and love put into the product. At least here in the US Funimation put their heart into making a well quality dub. I haven't really thought about my experience with Kai prior to the Dub in a long time; looking back I remember a lot of raging at the poor art quality. It's almost like Funi's dub distracted me from all the animation flaws. I want to see them go through with it till the end and I will be very disappointed if they don't.Flamingwindjutsu wrote:Well, this is... disappointing to say the least. Oh and, I'm holding off on eating my boxers until the cancellation is confirmed 100% and makes the front page.

SparkyPantsMcGee I except a full video of you eating your shorts.
Oh and in regards of what I previously said, don't forget that from the beginning, Dragon Ball Kai was said to have around 100 episodes. So no, they're not cutting it short, they're finishing at where they planned to. They planned it ahead to finish at the Cell Arc, but it seems that if Kai was more popular it would have gone to the Buu Arc, but it wasn't, so they finished it where it was originally planned. C'mon, it's not a bad ending at all.

Re: Toriko animated series takes Kai's timeslot in April?!
Just to note, the "about 100 episodes" quote was *not* from Toei or production staff -- that was just JP message board postings. It may have been an ideal number to shoot for from the staff, but they certainly realized that they wouldn't get anywhere near it with the Buu arc at the pace they were going at.
