Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Eh, oh, yeah, I guess it has that too. And if you really care, English credits and title cards. I always forget they exist since I never found a use for any of them.
Oh, wait. I just thought of another potentially unpopular opinion: I hate, hate, hate, hate the term Z-Warriors. Not only does it just sound dumb on its own, it's almost completely nonsensical in context. Okay, I get it. The show is Dragon Ball Z, so they're the *groan* Z-Warriors. Okay... so what was this same group of people who were doing the same stuff pre-Z? Given that the whole Z thing is an arbitrary distinction in the first place, it drives me crazy that the anime gave them a name based on that arbitrary distinction. Eh, after posting this I'll probably come to find out it was Toriyama's idea, which will be disheartening but still won't keep me from hating it. Glad I can stay in the manga, where the term never comes up.
At least, though, I can take some solace in the fact that they were never referred to as that in-universe. Oh, wait. The dub did! That was probably the last straw for me with the dub, when Gohan's having his fever dream in the ROSAT, and Chichi breaks in, calling Goku a delinquent, to which Gohan responds, "He's not a delinquent. He's a Z-Fighter!" Again, stupid-sounding line all on its own, but what sense does that make? What does that even mean? What's a Z-Fighter to them? Where does the Z come from? Why would they call each other that?! In the dub continuity, do they know they're in a show called Dragon Ball Z? I have to say I actually preferred the older dub term of "Earth's Special Forces." It was still wildly inaccurate in regards to what they did, made them sound like a paramilitary force, but at least it didn't sound completely stupid on its own!

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Right on the ball with that one Gaffer Tape, that has bothered me for years as a kid. I'm surprised that they didn't go and call the protagonists "GT" warriors too.
Another uncommon opinion of mine would that I was never crazy for most of the Red Ribbon arc in Dragon Ball, for the anime that is. The only highlights that I like a lot are when Goku raids Muscle Tower and the RRA base respectively. Other than that I found most of the saga as kind of like boring filler, only it wasn't filler. Even the fight with Tao Pai Pai doesn't even do it for me anymore, maybe I need to go back and appreciate it more but I just can't help to leave most of it in the shadow of the rest of the series.

What about the Z Sword? Or was it something else in Japanese?
Actually, that reminds me of something I thought of during my last rewatch of the Buu Saga.
Gohan should have actually USED the Z Sword. It should not have just been a container for a guy who would do another "Unlock Potential" powerup. It could have had special properties like negating regeneration.

What about the Z-Sword? Yes, it's called that in the original show and the manga. That's still pretty silly, but it doesn't bother me like Z-Warrior, though. Out of universe, it's obviously a little nod to its TV counterpart, but in-universe, it's an otherworldly item and could mean any number of things. It obviously has no connection to our main characters. Hell, if anything the presence of the Z-Sword makes the term Z-Warriors in the TV series seem even more ridiculous because now you have Z-Warriors with a Z-Sword. Might as well bring in a Z-Mobile parked at Z-Headquarters. But again, the manga doesn't have that problem.

I used the term because people know what it means and I don't really have a better one to use.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

I've always wondered why no one questions whether or not the sword would actually help; if left to what we see it would just be really clean way to slices Buu to pieces, and then he'll just regenerate. It really doesn't do much.Nikkolas wrote: Gohan should have actually USED the Z Sword. It should not have just been a container for a guy who would do another "Unlock Potential" power-up. Love the widescreen, I don't mind the cropping, hell, back when I was buying the orange bricks I didn't even notice it was cropped until I joined this forum and someone made a thread about it. There is a few other reasons but the widescreen reason was the only one worth mentioning.Gonstead wrote:Any specific reasons?Codarik wrote:Here is a very unpopular opinion, I'm probably one of a few people that will say this but...FUNi season sets are better than Dragon Box!

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
As a fan term, it's okay (although I still find it phonetically displeasing and really wish there was anything else to call them). It's the fact that it's the show's official term in itself (with even an episode title using it) that I find stupid. And, of course, the fact that the characters in the dub refer to themselves that way is dumber still.BlazingFiddlesticks wrote:^ That.Saiga wrote:I used the term because people know what it means and I don't really have a better one to use.

I'm not trying to be rude here, but I'm honestly perplexed. Why do you think the characters look better with no skin tones, and with less shading?Codarik wrote:Yes, believe or not, I really like the season 2 picture quality.Metalwario64 wrote:Be honest... Maybe he likes it without grain, and of course he's said that he didn't notice the widescreen.
Re: Unpopular DB opinions
The 25th Tenkaichi Tournament was by far the best part of the Buu arc, far better than the actual Buu part of the arc. They should've completed the tournament before moving on to Buu. The story went downhill exponentially after Vegeta's suicide.
Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Duuude MetalWario that first pic is just painfull to look at its so bright damn
it looks horrible
that is by far the worst I've seen
My unpopular opinion:
The Piccolo Daimaoh and Piccolo Jr fight is by far the best in the whole franchisesecond is Majin buu tied with Freeza arc
Tenshinhan arc
Cell arc
Baba arc tied with First tournoment arc
Saga of Goku
red ribbon arc
GT

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Here's another of mine:
The new art style is terrible! I hate it; I hate the fact that people copy the art style just because it is current and not the original authors art. I love the rounder older style of Dragonball. I Like to look at it, draw it, and pretend the new art never existed beyond the Namek saga. I love the big ears, eyes and chubby look of the art!

My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

If not for the Dragon Quest series being labeled as such in English, I would think "Dragon Warriors" would be a better term with the "Dragon Ball" title, but I think practically anything will sound cheesy and lame as a term to refer to them as a collective unit.Gaffer Tape wrote:As a fan term, it's okay (although I still find it phonetically displeasing and really wish there was anything else to call them).BlazingFiddlesticks wrote:^ That.Saiga wrote:I used the term because people know what it means and I don't really have a better one to use.
