So the reason you like the thing you like has nothing to do with the presence of something, but the lack of something completely unrelated?

So you'd rather be a rebel and like something that really sucks?

Guys, it's really not objective. The new animation is doo-doo when held up to DBZ's better episodes. Has nothing to do with nostalgia, and the fate zero/fate stay 2014 series is a great example. I loved the original, but goddamn the newer incarnations are fucking beautiful. Can't say the same for this piece of shit TOEI is making.

I really wouldn't go that far. Some of the new animation has been good. And what truly is appealing to eye as far as the new animation goes for Dragon Ball is absolutely subjective.

It's a perfect example of how, instead of changing the lines to show more of the jaw line, he remains to have the head drawn as if it is head on instead of a lower angle, yet the face is drawn to the low angle shot. He's been doing that since the Cell arc.

Maeda's designs did not suffer from that problem. They actually drew the bottom of the jaw and chin.
My biggest issue is that his Adam's Apple looks sunken in, rather than protruding.
In your own profile pic, you can see they drew the bottom of the jaw line where the neck meets the jaw and chin. They don't do it anymore. It's so ugly!
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

I like the new animation that we gotten in the last decade since it has a colorful look to it and captures the feel of Dragon Ball. I never like the animation in GT since it lack the colorful look that DB and DBZ had. The animation in GT came off as terrible and bland looking in my opinion. I like the old animation better, but we are never going to have DB look the same again like it was once was from 1986 - 1995.

He's saying that your stated reason for liking the new animation ("I like it because...") is not actually a reason for liking it. And that's not saying he is dismissing your opinion. But that, literally speaking, there is no reason. As in, you're not saying you like it due to any merits or characteristics of its own ("I like it because of the shininess... the angles... the less beefy characters"). You're saying you like it because of something that is not in any way an attribute of the animation.

For example, if I said I liked peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and you asked me why, you'd probably expect me to describe the texture of the bread, the fruitiness of the jelly, the lack of crunchiness in the peanut butter, stuff like that. But if I instead answered that it's because my arm doesn't hurt, you'd be hard-pressed to link that as an actual characteristic of the sandwich that causes me to like it.

I love the new animation, what's bad about it?

As a completely subjective activity, any reason is a valid reason for liking it. And, besides that, what he said was basically that he likes the details of how the new animation/art looks, so I fail to see in the confusion regarding what he said.

I wasn't giving a judgment on whether or not I agreed with it. I was simply trying to explain what I assumed was JulieYBM's point.

Well, thank you, but I'm just a regular old person guy. Not sure when the next part is coming out. I've started the script, but I haven't had a single day off in nearly a month, so my time is extremely limited, and my constitution is extremely fatigued. Hopefully soon. :D

i like the new animation. i would have liked kai for example to be animated from scratch. but i have to say that i am not bound to the old animatian style through nostalgia, since i am now 16 and saw the series the first time about a year ago.

Toma Seizou has been brought on to be the animation supervisor of Dragon Ball Super Episode #4 to do his thing...and his thing he has done. It'll be nice seeing a full episode separated from Yamamuro's usual influence.

The old animations looked good in some of the main episodes, but many the other episodes looked real bad. Here are a few examples... You guys who complain on the new animation style seem to overlook all the badly drawn episodes we had in the 90's... All these images have major proportions problems. And I would say that most episodes back in the day looked like these... That being said, the new animations are far from perfect, I don't like how they put pointy elf like ears on the characters...

I absolutely love that look. It looks odd on the shot with Whis, but everything else looks really good to me. I think his style is a perfect fit for the Pilaf Gangs' antics.

In the older animation at least, I believe the elements of grain, roughness and visual variations mitigated many of the imperfections in the poorly-drawn scenes, making it less noticeable.

When things are drawn poorly in the newer animation, the image is usually so clean, with the colors having a greater saturation, and more uniformed picture, that it actually does a disservice in that regard. Since the imperfections are so much more in your face and make it more easily detectable by the human eye.

Did you list this one as an example of poor animation? This is actually an example of beautiful, good animation if you asked me. The others were examples of the awful animation from Z but this one certainly isn't.

Yeah, what the hell? That's Studio Cockpit. They also used this, which was a well animated Yamamuro episode:
