Yes, all DVDs are interlaced. Progressive DVDs are just encoded in such a way that the progressive frames can be easily and efficiently reconstructed from the disc. But the actual MPEG2 stream on the disc is still interlaced.
So a "progressive" DVD is one that most compatible players identify as progressive and play it as such?
Umm... kinda... what you say is true. The DVD player has to know how to reconstruct the progressive frames and then send them to your TV (if the TV will even display progressive frames as most flat screens do... most CRTs do not). That's why some DVD players are (or used to be) advertised as "progressive" players. If I remember correctly, the wires matter as well. I don't think coaxial wires support 480p, only 480i (don't quote me on this part though). I
think the same is true for composite and S-video. To my knowledge, only HDMI and component will output progressive video signals.
The short and sweet of it is while the DBox is encoded as progressive, the MPEG2 stream is interlaced, but most newer DVDs players should be able to reconstruct the full frames and display it progressively on your flat screen if you're using an HDML cable (which are dirt cheap, so that's what you should be using

)
But I think we're getting off topic... so when is the release date for level 2.1?
