He doesn't sound like a surfer in this clip for instance.

Agreed. He sounds nothing like a "surfer dude" in that clip.Blue wrote: Woah what? I absolutely don't hear that. He dropped the surfer accent as soon as the Android arc rolled around.

Agreed with both Blue and Piccolo Daimaoh. Someone's working with the bizarre assumption that scratchy voice = surfer voice.
It's just a scratchy voice, but fairly normal sounding besides. Not saying it's amazing, but I guarantee that if it weren't for bad memories of season three's "It's da bomb!" Yamcha, no one would make that connection.

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
People really are getting their terms confused. Hell, I'd say that Sabat dropped the surfer accent midway into the Goku vs Frieza fight (after they beat up the dead Ginyu Force members).
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
Y'know listening to the new dub is really weird. It's extremely bizarre hearing the dub cast not reciting a typical dub script. When I pop in the Z dub I always expect to groan at bad puns, laugh at certain line deliveries and nod in approval when certain dialogue is surprisingly accurate. It has become a ritual at this point. Obviously I can't do that here. The dub had its own feel to it. It was a totally different life form. Now to my eyes and ears it's just meh dub voices reciting the script I know and love from the Japanese version.
I hope that makes sense. It may just be some bizarre sense of nostalgia. I kind of felt the same way about Funi's One Piece dub too though. The old dub was awful but it was its own thing. If I wanted to watch the Japanese version I'd watch it with the voices I love. It's not like I don't enjoy accurate dubs though. I like the Ranma 1/2 and Death Note dubs.
I'm not complaining at all, if anything I feel kind of guilty. I've been waiting all this time for an accurate dub and now I'm just not feeling it. They did an excellent job and I give them props but for some reason I just can't get into it.
(Of course this is all just my opinion.)

I'd always pop in my "Season Three" discs, and watch the dub and constantly crack jokes at the lines and delivery, and always ended up laughing and saying "Why am I subjecting myself to this torture! I would not wish this upon the worst of my enemies!"

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
I completely understand what you and Blue are saying. It's like not having interest in an accurate Godzilla dub, simply because the original effort is so charmingly bad.
Still glad the Kai dub is out there for new fans though, and at some future point when I decide to pick up the series, it will be my only incentive to do so.

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
Well I like, and am completely satisfied by Kai's dub. I'm just saying that it is weird not hearing the bad lines and delivery in the dub for once, which is why that's all I quoted from Blue's post.Cipher wrote:I completely understand what you and Blue are saying. Oh man me too, my favorite now gone line from the Raditz section was when he was walking away from the half eaten animal corpse and he spouts "Next time I'll COOK the meat!" Every single time I laugh at this because it's such a weird way for the Funi script writers to try and push the idea that this guy is evil. It's so unneeded and ham handed. I just know I'm the only one amused by that line. I totally said that piece of dialogue when I was supposed to and Cook didn't join me.Metalwario64 wrote:That's pretty much how I feel (well, except the "meh" part.Blue wrote:When I pop in the Z dub I always expect to groan at bad puns, laugh at certain line deliveries and nod in approval when certain dialogue is surprisingly accurate. In fact, when I bought it, my sister and I kept making fun of the Z dub, and we kept reciting lines from it.

That's funny, because I heard that line in my head when I was watching that episode with my Dad earlier.Blue wrote:Oh man me too, my favorite now gone line from the Raditz section was when he was walking away from the half eaten animal corpse and he spouts "Next time I'll COOK the meat!" Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
So I can go on the FUNimation home page and watch the Dragonball Z Kai trailer, but if I try going on the official DBZKai site it's blocked.
How does that work?

Definitely still surferish in there.

It's extremely sad that an accurate dub is actually making some people less interested in watching...stuff like this makes it depressing to be a dub fan at times. : /

It's barely there. Mostly it's just a deep, scratchy voice. I can see where you're coming from, but I'm almost certain that you wouldn't make that claim if you had never seen the season three dub.
And broke (broek?) his leg. I mean, killing him was one thing, but the leg-breaking was just too much.He killed Yamcha?
