Even more arguments why Toriyama/Toei should get out of this 10 year period finally as it's getting ridiculous to call it a 10 year of peace with so many big events and potentially even more. Just place Super after EOZ. New movie 2017 could still be placed in the 10 years period for the sake of finishing the "God Trilogy" but otherwise, the series just has to move forward.UpFromTheSkies wrote: IIRC, the actual battles with Daimao, Vegeta, Freeza, and Cell didn't last very long, maybe a day or so, and the entire Buu arc took place in just two days.
Beerus almost destroyed the Earth, and Freeza did destroy it, which is only the second time that's happened.

Eh, he's already rewritten EoZ once, why not again? I say it's better to start off after Buu and then continue on to EoZ, then we get everything, but either way I'm just happy we're finally getting a new series, and that Toriyama is involved.Basaku wrote:Even more arguments why Toriyama/Toei should get out of this 10 year period finally as it's getting ridiculous to call it a 10 year of peace with so many big events and potentially even more. Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
So we would have BOG "spliced" in between episodes, say, 58/59, then ROF in between 176/177, then 3rd movie in between 241/242 then EOZ? All while the show would be called Dragon Ball Super while the movies and 3 episodes at the end of Z would be branded under DBZ? That's a hot mess that requires tons of recaps for the movies, confuses the general audience, doesn't flow well at all and just seems forced for the sake of not crossing the "forbidden" EOZ line.UpFromTheSkies wrote:I say it's better to start off after Buu and then continue on to EoZ

The series is already a mess in regards to jumping all over the time line, it went Buu > EoZ > GT > GT Special > JSAT > EoB > PtEtS > BoG > RoF, and then DBO goes in there somewhere.Basaku wrote:So we would have BOG "spliced" in between episodes, say, 58/59, then ROF in between 176/177, then 3rd movie in between 241/242 then EOZ? And as for having specials spliced between episodes, it's a common thing in anime, and often these specials have nothing to do with what's going on in the series, like the One Piece "Boss Luffy" specials.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
JSAT, Bardock and Plan don't even count because only the most hardcore fans knew about them and they're heavily HEAVILY limited in legal availability worldwide. BOG is the first big proper neo-DB release, ROF second. Not that hard to swiftly explain their placement. If we're gonna add Super all over, before, in-between and after the movies, with a different brand at that, it's turning into a prequel/sidequel/mid-quel mess.UpFromTheSkies wrote: The series is already a mess in regards to jumping all over the time line, it went Buu > EoZ > GT > GT Special > JSAT > EoB > PtEtS > BoG > RoF, and then DBO goes in there somewhere.

As for the movies having nothing to do with the series, the entire point of the 2 new movies being different from previous ones and leading into the new DB era is that they're suppoused to be official/canon/Toriyama etc. If their events end up being so unimportant they don't even require a mention in hypothetical DBS that'd placed in-between them, then what was even the point lol
And then there's still EOZ. First Toriyama "retcon" was minimal and more of a scene expansion than any major changes. EOZ after a Super like you propose would probably have to be heavily rewritten to fit in any form as a series ending

Well only time will tell, we'll find out in a few weeks
And like I said, I'll be happy either way just to get new Dragon Ball.

I hope it's no more than 2 weeks, the timeline speculation is already exhaustingUpFromTheSkies wrote:Well only time will tell, we'll find out in a few weeksAnd like I said, I'll be happy either way just to get new Dragon Ball.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I'm most anxious to see the character designs. Is it Yamamuro? Is it not!Yamamuro? If it's not, is there hope for character designs that look closer to the manga circa EoZ?

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I'm inclined to think it is merely Yamamuro if only because that would save time in drawing up new designs that have to finalized. It would be nice if it was someone else, though. At most I expect it to be Yamamuro alongside someone else to serve as a secondary character designer. That's what happened with Disk Wars: Avengers when Yamamuro left to go direct Fukkatsu no F. Tate Naoki took over there but designed mostly in the same style.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I feel like this is probably going to be the case. Ah well, if it is, I did at least like his latest variations in F better than the ones he used in BOG; felt like he tried to give a little more leeway to Toriyama's style (but not enough imo). I still think going completely fresh with someone brand new would be nice and make Super feel more like its own thing.JulieYBM wrote:I'm inclined to think it is merely Yamamuro if only because that would save time in drawing up new designs that have to finalized. Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
It doesn't really matter as much. While the lines in Fukkatsu no F are a bit stronger than the previous film Yamamuro's overall hand as animation supervisor is still pretty heavy. If he's going to be a chief animation supervisor for the series I doubt we'll see the personalities of the animators are often as we'd like .
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Which would be super-unfortunate.JulieYBM wrote:It doesn't really matter as much. I feel like I keep waiting for Yamamuro to be replaced/retire and it's just not gonna happen. Nothing against the guy, he's just lost a chunk of the proportion control (especially with faces) that he used to have back in the day. The whites of eyes and noses end up frequently too big where he wouldn't have made those mistakes back when. Makes me wonder if he's been skipping steps in his line-art and that's what's leading to the sometimes wide-face/too-much-eye-whites/big-noses. Like not drawing the preliminary + lines on the face to designate where you'll draw facial features exactly.
I'll continue to hope we get a new character designer. Yamamuro did get replaced as director, so...?
I like getting to see the personalities shine through.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Personally, I find that he is stuck in the 1990s. He doesn't really have a specialty as an animator. Some are action animators and some are good character animators. Drawing kind of decently on-model isn't anything special but that's essentially Yamamuro's only weapon. I think it's definitely time the young talents at Toei Animation took over. They're quicker to adapt new ideas and mold them to their own than Yamamuro is.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
More reasons why I hope we get someone new.
Question! Would Toei save money if they hire someone new? Like would a new/younger character designer be cheaper to hire? Toei does like saving money.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
No, it's not going to be cheaper to hire someone new for character designs, especially if it is someone from within Toei Animation. Yamamuro is simply being kept on because the franchise hasn't been much of a priority and the youngsters are all working on other projects. He's also probably savvy with the producers at Toei or Morishita Kouzou himself. Yamamuro has his own studio now and I figure a big part of why he is being kept on is because Toei Animation has other uses for their other staff. Yamamuro pretty much only has one use at this point: Dragon Ball. Yamamuro hasn't really been a big part of any other series at Toei Animation in years. Even then it was mostly as a character designer or one-off animation supervising role. Given his seniority he probably should've transferred to being an episode director two decades ago at this point. Now he's just an old dog that can't be taught any new tricks and the only reason that isn't an issue is because the one thing he's 'good' at keeps getting new projects made. Yamamuro seems to be 'the Dragon Ball guy' and that alone. Heck, the only reason he's even that is because he's been with the franchise so long.
Oonishi Ryou and Tate Naoki haven't been doing much lately. I'm really hoping they're going to be regular animation supervisors for the series. It's the only place I can see where they might be given how long they've been missing from the frontlines of this spring season.

C'mon Toei, is time for the overload of advertisement for the series.
