It's more of a matter of consistency. If they changed the names to be equal to the japanese ones, then why did they change them back?

To draw in people who watched the original dub?

Having the original names wouldn't push me away at all. It's mostly just what I'm used to lol

It's meant to play off nostalgia.

Thanks to TFS, I can't not hear "Special Beam Cannon" without my brain replaying that convo that ends in "nailgun" between TFSPiccolo and TFSNail about renaming the attack. Heh, nailgun. :3

I dug Ayers delivery on that last "I am Lord Freeza!!" line at the end.

Jaco sounds about how I'd expect.

I've moved on so hard to Super that I almost forgot Funi's dub of this hasn't even come out yet. ^^;

I know how you feel. Having Super around just makes all the anticipation for this movie drop quite a bit, which feels so weird to think about.

Heck, I still don't think that I've entirely processed that a new series exists.

FUNi's made it perfectly clear in the past that Z is Z and Kai is Kai. It was a pleasant surprise to hear a couple of accurate attack names in the Kai dub, but I think we all knew that it wasn't going to be the new standard.

This is a Z movie. Thus, they're sticking with their Z names.
fadeddreams5 wrote:Guess it's cause this is DBZ and not Kai (even though they're using Kai VAs...). :?
From what we've heard, FUNi's method of casting for the Kai dub basically involved them cutting all ties with certain Z actors. The fact that they at least got Meredith McCoy and Brad Jackson back showed that an effort was made to get these new movies as close to Z as they could.

Good point about the division between Kai and Z, but...considering that Super is neither, one wonders how they'll handle dubbing that...

(I'm kinda hoping they don't just retitle it "Dragon Ball Z Super" for the English release. That sounds kind of clunky.)

Another awesome trailer, but I dislike how the CG was done. It's blatantly obvious that the character models are in 3D. I prefer 2D characters in a 3D environment that doesn't look awkward. Honestly, I would prefer Toei doing the CG here like they did with One Piece Film Z, but oh well.

It was so seamless in Film Z and that's the way it should be done. I mean, the majority of the CG I've seen for F hasn't really bothered me and looks pretty good, it was just the shots near the start of this trailer that made me raise an eyebrow. If you're going to mix 2D/3D I thought the trick was for people not to be able to notice there was a change but it was so obvious here. I hope there's not too many moments like that.

Besides the whole "Funimation treats Z and Kai as distinct products" thing, it's worth pointing out that the edited TV broadcast version of the Kai dub used Special Beam Cannon and Destructo Disc and so on. So even with the Kai dub there are probably still more people in the US familiar with those names than Makankosappo or Kienzan.

Went to see 'Ant-Man' today and they screened the 'Resurrection F' trailer beforehand. Still really excited to see this film in theatres, and I sensed there was a bit of a buzz around the audience when it played. They even had a poster up in the lobby.
