What? She doesn't sound nearly as bubbly as Vollmer's. She sounds sharper and less flakey.

Bulma sounds decent to me in the dub. It's the dialogue that makes her annoying.

Yeah, in that clip Monica Rial's Bulma sounds more like a valley girl than Tiffany Vollmer's.

Bulma doesn't raise her final syllables in a question-like fashion, last I checked. Certainly not valley girl.

She sounds like a bit of a spoiled girl. Which, you know, she is.

Like I said, it's not as bad as it was when it started out, but it's definitely identifiable as the drawn out relaxation of words that is the "surfer" or "stoner" affect. It's not pronounced, as Sabat's trying to sharpen it a bit, but it's still there, and a pretty awful voice for Yamcha.

Next you'll be telling me that Tiffany Vollmer's Bulma wasn't "valley girl".

I didn't really hear it in that clip either. I can see what spots you're probably talking about...but I don't think it's really as bad as you make it out to be.

Even if it was, though. It's not like Yamcha doesn't look like a long-haired, pretty boy, surfer dude. Even more-so when he gets that spikey haircut.

But, of course, that gets back into that other topic about FUNimation casting voices based purely on a quick glance at physical characteristics while ignoring the fact that Yamucha's character is pretty much nothing like that. In fact, I think they actually admitted once that for Yamucha that they just looked at his long hair, said "surfer," and called it a day... until the fans started bitching.

I thought that was the Yamcha for Evolution?

That's not cool. Yamcha is one of my favorite characters... But at that point in the series, its not like he had much of a personality. Eespecially if one is unfamiliar with the original series... I can understand why they might think they need a distinguishing trait for the character.

Everyone make sure to watch at least the first episode on the Nicktoons broadcast tonight, if you can. Be there for the very beginning.

I won't be able to watch the premier broadcast because of work. I'll get home at around 10 tonight, but I will watch the repeat at 11 and 11:30 PM.

Boy I wish I had the Blu-Ray, just to see the inconsistencies.

I think Tom Dubois of "The Boondocks" said it best for me when FUNimation announced the release of the domestic Dragonbox, after buying all of the Season Sets: "MOTHERFUCK!!! SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT, PRICKS, SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIIIIIIIT!"

I have class but even if I didn't I really have no interest in watching a censored and edited dub.

I will. Gotta do my part to boost the ratings and help this thing stay on the air/raise awareness/gain fans/popularity/result in more Dragon Ball stuff in the future.

Oh man, all this talk about the new dub really makes me want to go out and pick up Part 1 right now... But for now, I think I'll just watch the Nicktoons broadcast for shits and giggles, and pick up the DVDs closer to September, when Part 2 comes out. The uncut home releases aren't going anywhere.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Yeah, but the funny/sad thing is, this was at season 3! They'd already been dubbing DBZ for two seasons and DB for 13 episodes before that! Even if they'd never watched their own show up to that point, the rest of their season 3 cast seemed to be based around the already absurd notion of "Let's just imitate the voices we had before." Except for Yamucha, who they just said, "surfer." Throw in some "da bomb"s and "That's whack"s.

So should I be happy that they decided to actually show some "creativity" and go in a new direction or be pissed that that direction was... terrible? :?

To be fair they were "hippin'" up a lot of the characters. Like the sassy Porunga that don't take no guff'! At least it wasn't as bad as Sailor Moon's jive talkin' slang.

Well, of course. It was 1999 after all. Why shouldn't the characters use slang from 1991?

...

Which is when that part of the show was actually made... Oh, goodness. Did I just inadvertantly justify them?!

Normally I wouldn't care either since it's the edited version. But, the "big thing" I was teasing about a while back, may possibly be showcased in this episode, as weird as that sounds. I don't know 100% for sure, but you guys definitely wanna be there for the beginning of the first episode, just in case.

I'm in Indiana. And it airs at 8PM here. Not how different it is between timezones.
