Yet.

Yet, they did not; whoever has the money can do what they like, maybe all the disgruntled fans can get together and start a “Make the Dragonball We Want!” fund. That is if they all can decide on what they want in the movie.
They didn't do one because Dragon Ball works in an animated world. Remember, their Earth is not our Earth. The locations, the animals, the people; none of that is present in our world. It'd be incredibly difficult to pull something like that in real life.

I wouldn't be surprised if they attempted to make a live action Pokemon movie at some point. I really wouldn't. TT_TT
On hiatus.

There's a parody poster/comic thing somewhere, and the tagline for the pokemon movie was: "Gotta catch 'em all... ... before it's too late." So yeah, the pokemon will bring apocalypse or something. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if Hollywood did that at one point.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Big difference. LotR's locations were possible. Dragon Ball's, however, isn't. Then there's also the fact that there are animal people and flying cars/bikes and so forth.
Plus their budget was bigger.

Suddenly I remembered the concert "Pokemon Live." Now I wish I could forget it again.

Pretty sure that was the plot of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Pokemon movies.

Sorry, are flying cars/bikes impossible to do on film now? And I'm fairly sure I saw talking animals in Narnia.

Hey, at least the movies had actual plots... that alone set it above the series.
Actually, to be honest, I would love to see a Advent Children sort of CGI movie based off the manga. I don't know if anyone here has read it, but it's actually pretty flipping good, in my opinion.
But yeah, an American Pokemon movie wirth Garfield style CGI wouldn't surprise me much.

It'd be pretty hard to make a terrible Pokémon film, I think. I mean, Nintendo would likely keep a tight and firm grip on it.
I'd hope.

Well, that's what happens when three German siblings take ecstasy and open a closet.

Tsukento wrote:But this is somewhat different; this is Dragon Ball we're talking about. A highly appreciated and well known series in Japan.
I don't know much about how the foreign market usually handles these things, but it seems to me that if (for the sake of example) the Japanese were to make a Superman flick the majority of Americans wouldn't particularly care. So it seems to me that it is understandable that not many Japanese fans aren't lining up to see Caucasian Goku.
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

Ecstasy doesn't make you hallucinate. I'd hate to think about what siblings would do on ecstasy in a closet.

They were English. It was during the Blitz.

Yeah, they would not let one of their most beloved game franchise become a laughable movie.

You should. I'll put it this way; if DBE turns out half as entertaining as that film, I'd be happy.
Unfortunately it doesn't sound like it is. But hey! I'll wait and see.

So, the movie's online. Everything I'm about to say is as spoilerific as it gets, so you've been warned.
It was... bad. I don't mean bad as an adaption of Dragonball, but just a bad movie... I think one of the biggest flaws was just how frickin rushed it seemed. Particularly in comparison to the first 20 minutes or so, which is as dull, cliched and painful as everyone here would have anticipated.
Was the hoody really necessary to get your emo-point across?
I don't need to write a full review, more qualified individuals than myself already have. So these just a few thoughts.
The writers own ideas seem to clash with things they brought over from the original story. Why does Bulma have a device to track Dragonballs when she believes there's only one, which had always been in her posession? Why does the "highest form of airbending" light things on fire?
The monsters that Piccolo makes (we know them as Fulums, they weren't named in the movie) are a throwback to Power Rangers goons. They have less than a minute of screen time and serve no purpose other than to be thrown into lava and used as stepping stones.
Goku's gi is magic in this movie. (/sarcasm)
He seems to change into it utterly at random, in what I can only assume was the time it took for him to fall out of Yamcha's flying jeep. It doesn't rip or tear at all when he turns into Oozaru, though it falls open to reveal his chest and the belt disappears. When he turns back to normal again, it's neatly tied back into place and the belt is restored.
This transformation isn't impressive in the least. If you've seen werewolves in Harry Potter or Van Helsing, you know what to expect here.
The "final battle" may have been the most rushed moment in the movie. Between Piccolo and Goku, it consists entirely of about 30 seconds of Piccolo throwing red fireballs at Goku while Goku throws blue fireballs back in return. They both then decide this movie's overstayed it's welcome and quickly get the kamehameha vs random giant fireball out of the way.
There's just not a lot of good here, and I can't overstate how rushed things get when the highschool scenes are over. It's like they were filming a different movie and suddenly realize they only had 50 minutes left to do Dragonball.
Now just to degenerate into random tidbits for all of you. Some of this is just a confirmation.
The character we assumed to be Mutaito is addressed as "Sifu Norris" in the movie.
Oozaru is described as Piccolo's "disciple".
Goku is addressed as "Son Goku" once, by Mai reporting on his activity to Piccolo.
Nyoibo doesn't extend, and I don't believe Goku had it during the final battle at all.
Roshi does have sunglasses on for a few seconds while he's riding on Bulma's ATV.
The "hotdog" scene at the "tournament" wasn't included.
