So... from what I've seen, these volumes are advertised as uncut and uncensored, which they most certainly aren't...
Am I jumping the gun here or have Viz flat-out lied to us?

What a slap in the face this turned out to be, just to sell the series again.

Well it seems like they have lied to us, but I will continue buying the 3-in-1s to see if anything changes. :)

Not sure if this has been posted before, but it looks like the cover art of volume 4 of the Kanzenban will be the cover for the second 3-in-1 release.

Well, Viz. I've defended you before; looks like I won't be doing it again... I'm not even upset by the book being a lower-quality printing; I'm mostly disappointed by the book still being censored despite being advertised as "uncut & uncensored."

Can't they be sued for flat-out misleading false advertisement? I mean it's not like it was just some side comment by a representative or something, but an ACTUAL ADVERTORIAL STATEMENT slapped on ads AND the back covers of these products.

From what I've seen... Yeah, they lied. If they had changed something besides the covers, I wouldn't say that they lied, but since they apparently didn't change anything regarding the dialog or the censorship, yeah, they lied.

Was any of the dialogue in the first 3 volumes censored?

Called it. Oh well, I guess.

I'm sure they must have broken some law with this blatant false-advertising, and I actually think we should kick up a fuss about it.

How is the paper quality by the way? Is it like the really bad 3-in-1 releases or the slightly bad ones?

Using the Kanzenban covers for what's pretty much the most un-Kanzenban-like release to date. Thanks for the kick in the balls, Viz.

I hate to say I told you so, but...

Actually, joking aside cuz I really can't say that, as the only thing I 'called' was the shitty paper - this is just bad. So let me get this straight...it's the still edited art, no new translation, thrown into a crappier binding and lower quality paper...would...anyone actually buy these over the VizBigs? I mean, sure, they're cheaper, but...gah.

Hell, I'll say it, and this is coming from someone that owns the Orange Bricks - this is like the Season Set version of the manga, compared to the VizBigs as the Dragon Box by comparison...only in this case the lesser quality version has come out afterwards rather than before. Oi.

It's the exact same as the One Piece/Naruto/FMA 3-in-1's. Which means the paper is cheaper and thinner than other releases, but still pretty readable.

The Kanzenban covers and the lack of a "Z" for the second part of the series makes me sort of want these. I don't own the Viz Bigs, so I'd probably get these instead, even if they don't have a few coloured pages and are smaller. On the other hand, I'm pissed that Viz lied, and don't really want to give them money.

We've never got a Dragon Box equivalent. The tankobons are like the DVD singles, and the Viz Bigs I guess would be like fancy box sets of the singles. The Kanzenbans are the Dragon Boxes, but at the moment they're for Japanese speakers only, just like Dragon Boxes Z were for a long time and all of the others still are.

True, that's probably a better analogy, yeah. I knew I was forgetting something in my example, and it was those previous singles-in-a-box-set variant.

As for the rest of your points, I honestly can't imagine how the series lacking a 'Z' separation is enough to make these more appealing than the VizBigs are, what with the paper and all...but we all have our different things that make or break a product for us, and I guess that's one of yours that just isn't one of mine is all.

I don't know what the other releases were like, but the paper quality is really quite bad, it feels like it could tear easily, and you can see straight through the pages too.

There isn't much light in this picture either. It is blank on the side I'm taking a picture of though, atleast on the other pages there's pictures to block it out. :)

Isn't one of the VizBigs out of print? Out of print things can get expensive. That would surely make some people want to buy these 3 in 1's instead.

It's my understanding that a few of them go OoP and come back and then go OoP again, but as far as I know none of them have gone so badly OoP that you can't find them relatively decently priced, given time and searching. Again, I'm going off of understanding here though, I haven't actually looked in a bit. Either way, I'd probably just get the single volumes if it came down to that. That's what I plan to do when I finally start getting the FMA manga, rather than getting it's 3-in-1's.

Though to be fair, if Viz can lie about these being unedited, they could easily be talking out their asses about keeping the VizBigs in print too...

The VizBigs go in and out of print as time goes on. From the looks of things, e.g. adverts, Viz don't have any plans to get rid of the VizBigs, so unless you're really interested in having Kanzenban cover art, I really don't see the point in this release.

SNIP
That's the same quality as the other 3-in-1s (Eva and X obviously not included).

I'd be disappointed if I was at all surprised by it. I guess I've grown accustomed to getting lied to in this fandom. :|
