The ToP is very long in the anime (55 episodes) not only because the tournament is extended, but also because a lot is still done prior to the actual tournament. The Zeno Expo is longer, and there are episodes centered around specific characters and recruitments. All that takes 19 episodes. The actual tournament starts and ends with 36 episodes.
In the manga, the arc is just 16 chapters long, and takes 6 chapters for the actual tournament to start.
That said, I can easily see the ToP anime remake not being longer than 20 episodes, maybe 24 eps at best.
I actually think the Zamasu Arc is the one they'll be changing the most. ToP they can easily keep most of the old anime stuff.
Zamasu Arc they'll have to make some heavy cuts and extra work for it to make sense i think, cut stuff like the extra time travel.
I don't think Trunks doing the Kaioshin training and the other manga exclusive scenes will be present.

I don’t really see the point of starting to remake the arcs if they’re not going to finish them. It just ends up making everything more confusing. I thought the idea was to rework Dragon Ball Super into a more seasonal anime format, but if there’s going to be gaps between arcs, that kind of defeats the purpose. I really hope that’s not the case.
That said, I don’t mind the first few arcs being shorter. Keeping them in the 6 to 10 episode range could actually work well. The first two were already movies, and the third arc is basically just a fun tournament, so they don’t need to drag things out (though I would personally like to see more from it).

Just sit here and waste your precious time. When you want to do something, don't do it right away. Don't do it when you can. Read my posts instead. It's the only way to live a life without regrets.

Ajay has confirmed on Twitter (I'm not calling it "X") that the remake will indeed end after the Champa arc, however, he also said that doesn't mean they won't revisit it once the Moro arc concludes. If I had to guess, I'd say we'll get the Black and TOP remakes between the Moro and Granola arcs, as that way we won't have to worry about any long gaps between Dragon Ball content. Until that happens though, this will be yet another version of Super that's incomplete, and that newcomers will have to jump between different versions to get the full story. As for Moro, that's going to be one of the best looking DB arcs considering it'll be in-production for nearly two years by the time the first episode airs.

This is not the same situation seen in 2011-2014 where the Kai Cell Saga ended, then nearly 2 years later there was Battle of Gods, then the year after, Kai Boo Saga. That was a different context.
Everyone praised them for starting production on the Moro arc almost two years or more before its release, but again it seems we're seeing a situation of poor planning, which is interrupting the remake.
Anyway, maybe I'm overreacting but I just think this was their chance to make evething perfectly consistent. I do hope they will still do the Zamasu and ToP, regardless if it will be closer to the manga of not, they just have to do it, finish what you started. If it will be after Moro or Granola, patience.

It makes sense that any talented animators working on the Super Enhanced version would wind up moving over to work on Moro once production was ready to start on that. The worst part of this news is that Yamamuro is probably also moving over to work on Moro, like he did for Dragon Ball Daima. I do hope that they delay the release of the series, just because I'd prefer them to be as closed to having every episode of the project finished as possible before they do a release. Dragon Quest: Dai no Dai-Bouken had something like two cours finished before it because airing, if memory serves. The Moro arc wouldn't be more than that, I imagine.

Masako Nozawa however is already almost 90 and they should have took the opportunity of her thankfully still being in good health to remake Black arc with new voice lines for the newly created scenes.
Moro arc is most definitely a 2028 release, so if they ever come back to the remake it'll be in 2030 and she's gonna be 94 years old. Way out of her prime though I hope she'll still be able to do the evil voice but who knows at that point. And I don't want Black done by any other VA, wouldn't hit the same.

Her age, as well as everyone else to a far lesser extent, is why I think they should've recast everything starting with Kai.Zinnia wrote: Tue Apr 28, 2026 12:37 pmMasako Nozawa however is already almost 90 and they should have took the opportunity of her thankfully still being in good health to remake Black arc with new voice lines for the newly created scenes.

Disagree about Kai because she still did awesome job in DBS, especially as Goku Black, but a recast starting with THIS remake would be a good point for all parties involved. She could have guided the new voice in a passing the torch situation. The Dark Knight wrote: Tue Apr 28, 2026 12:45 pmHer age, as well as everyone else to a far lesser extent, is why I think they should've recast everything starting with Kai.Zinnia wrote: Tue Apr 28, 2026 12:37 pmMasako Nozawa however is already almost 90 and they should have took the opportunity of her thankfully still being in good health to remake Black arc with new voice lines for the newly created scenes.

I mean, I've always said that there was a huge jump in quality in episode 47, so I don't really care if FT and the ToP sagas won't be "remastered".
I always suspected this was the case. These two arcs are pretty iconic and honestly I've always wondered how they could top episodes 129-131, which broke the internet.
I still wish there was an animated version of those arcs without the stupid filler (especially losers talking from the stands in the ToP arc), but oh well.
I really do think the Tournament of Power needs a "Kai version". The last 15-20 episodes are so well done and iconic, but unfortunately there's a lot of boring no-name characters in-between. I wish there was a middle ground between the anime giving a whole episode to whats-his-face and the manga off-screening Kefla.

Akira Toriyama, DBS vol.4 joint interview with ToyotaroAt his core Zamasu is good like Shin, though I guess you could say he was so fastidious that it backfired. But you know, for this "Future Trunks Arc" you had to depict Zamasu and Trunks' inner conflict, right? If this was back when I was drawing the manga myself then I doubt if I could have done it. I mean, I'm not very good at depicting the characters' psychology on the page. So this all came together because now I only have to think up the story. [...] On my own, I doubt I would have been able to express Zamasu's fall to the dark side.

There are episodes and scenes that they can cut in the entire DBS, to make the remake have less episodes. I don't mind how long they take to animate the anime, if it takes years I am fine with that.
I will give this remake and the new saga a fair chance, what happened in DBS original is irrelevant with the remake. I will not make any assumptions about DBS Remake, I will wait and see it myself.

Recasting everyone with Kai would have made the most sense. They already recast plenty of characters for that series and it was already very much a project meant to start a new era separate from the first era.

Ajay has once again clarified that the project is not necessarily ending or getting cancelled, but rather getting paused temporarily to focus on the Moro arc. Once the Moro arc wraps up its main production phase, work will likely restart on the remaining two arcs.

As long as it isn't cancelled, I will consider that good news. Being on pause doesn't sound like bad news. The Dark Knight wrote: Tue Apr 28, 2026 2:07 pm Ajay has once again clarified that the project is not necessarily ending or getting cancelled, but rather getting paused temporarily to focus on the Moro arc. If they had to pick between working on both projects, risking their quality in the process, or taking time off one to focus on the other, then they made the right choice.super michael wrote: Tue Apr 28, 2026 2:42 pmAs long as it isn't cancelled, I will consider that good news. Re: The TV Anime Series Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will be broadcast on Fuji TV in the fall of 2026
Well, this is terrible news. I’m really upset now.
Dragon Ball Super has become an even bigger mess and jumble than it already was.
Beerus – remaster series
Golden Freeza – remaster series
Champa – remaster series
Future Trunks – old, ugly series
Tournament of Power – old, ugly series
Broly – movie with a unique style
Moro – series with a unique style
Granolah – manga
Super Hero – CGI movie.
Is there anyone who actually enjoys watching a story like this? Is this worthy of Dragon Ball?
And the claim that it was paused is just speculation. Sure, it’s possible. It’s also possible that there will be a live-action Dragon Ball AF series. But officially, no one has said anything like that.

It would make absolutely no sense to remake a series then stop at the most popular arcs. We'll likely get the Black arc in the Fall of 2028 once Moro wraps up earlier that year.
Late 2026 to early 2027: First 3 arcs of the remake.
Late 2027 to early 2028: Moro arc.
Late 2028 to early 2029: Black and TOP remakes.
Late 2029 to early 2030: Granola arc.
This is what a healthy production looks like, as it gives everyone time to work on both projects without burning out the staff by overworking them.

I agree, it wouldn’t make sense to stop before the most popular arcs. But as of now, that’s exactly what’s happened, unfortunately. Anything about them continuing afterward is just fan speculation at this point. The Dark Knight wrote: Tue Apr 28, 2026 3:05 pm It would make absolutely no sense to remake a series then stop at the most popular arcs. Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z also looked ugly, so I wouldn't particularly act like Dragon Ball Super was somehow the first time that the series looked unbecoming or whatever. We'll probably get a continuation of the Enhanced Edition at some point, too, it'll just require time and patience.

DB & Z generally looked good, with ugly episodes being the odd ones every now and then. Super on the other hand, at least before the tournament of power, looked ugly on a regular basis.JulieYBM wrote: Tue Apr 28, 2026 3:32 pm Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z also looked ugly, so I wouldn't particularly act like Dragon Ball Super was somehow the first time that the series looked unbecoming or whatever.
Re: The TV Anime Series Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will be broadcast on Fuji TV in the fall of 2026
If they do alternate, it sounds like a Capcom strategy with the Resident Evil series: focus on enhancing/remaking an existing bit, then on a new arc/follow-up game, then back to enhancing/remaking another existing bit, then back to a new arc/follow-up game, etc.
But it is also entirely possible that they'll get back to completing the remaster even before the Moro arc.
It's possible they realised they have such a head-start that they can afford to temporarily pause it to get a good head-start with Moro too and that the Goku Black and Tournament of Power arcs won't require as many "animation touch-ups" as the first three arcs anyway when they get back to it.
For the story to be completely covered from A to Z, they'd still have to entirely reanimate the Broly movie into a TV anime though (and not call it "Dragon Ball Super: Broly" if they don't want people to confuse the TV series and the movie).
They'll surely reanimate Super Hero after Moro and Granola, especially to include the high school adventures and to offer a "regular animation" version of Super Hero while they're at it, and because after Moro and Granola clenching people's thirst, they'll likely opt to buy some time with more "Toriyama-approved material" before being forced to jump into the unknown with future Toriyama-less arcs that might have appeared in the manga in the meantime.
So while the Broly adaptation would be logically necessary but not necessarily likely due to having to animate a whole new arc from scratch when "brand new animation" efforts are focused on the Moro arc instead, I think it is VERY likely that Super Hero reanimated as a 2D TV series version including the high school adventures will be done after Moro and Granola.
And while Toyotaro can't continue the manga, they should actually tell him "since you can't continue for now, spend every month actually creating a full manga version of Resurrection 'F' and Broly so that we can include it in a later Perfect Edition / Kanzenban / Full Color release." I mean, since the guy has to wait, you might as well give him the monthly job of creating the chapters covering the missing arcs in the meantime, don't you think?
