Because, while he did stand as one of the good points of the FUNi dub, his early episodes were really...off.
Ironically, I don't care anyway.![]()
Hmm...32 episodes..How far does that take us to?
BTW, can I request (like I previously did a half dozen pages back) a screen comparison (or just two screenshots) of the SSJ Transformation between the season sets, and FUNi's DVDs?

Lil' Lemmy asked me to elaborate on Frieza swearing, so here are the examples: "Damn you!" and "Damn [him/you - I don't remember]" Yeah, that's about it, though the last episode I watched was roughly half of "Dende's Demise," so maybe there's more. On another note, for those who haven't seen this set yet, Frieza's Form 3 voice is no longer the fusion-style voice combining the first and second form voices into a single audio track. Honestly I thought that kind of sounded cool, though keeping the Form 2 voice for Form 3 is just as good. I fell asleep before hearing any of Frieza's true form's lines; I know he spoke, but I was really tired while watching it after work last night.
Edit: All of Frieza's third form lines had to be redubbed due to this voice change, but they are all almost exactly the same as they originally were.

Hay guys I've finally got my boxset from Z Store and have seen a few episodes, from what I've seen so far is an almost faitful script to Funimations original one but with a few cuss words inputted every now and then such as Krilliuns "Oh crap" before Freeza transformes and Vegeta's "My God" after seeing Krilliun impaled on Freeza's horn. Oh I almost forgot Vegeta said "Damn it" after he found out that the earthlings were using his Dragonballs a great job by Christopher Sabbat I must say
Also I don't know what Funimation have been doing to make this boxsets quality of episodes so amazing, their remastering process for this seasons boxset is way better than their first 2 attempts with the last 2 boxsets. So I take my hat off to them and I hope they keep it up
And now for the bad thing I noticed in episode 95 entitled "Transformed At Last" near the end of this episode it shows a scene where Captain Ginu whilst still a frog hops over to Bulma and talks to her. Now the reason why I'm telling you this is that your supposed to see Captain Ginu as a frog looking up at Bulma and talking to her, but with the widescreen thing and all you can't even see him anymore because he's too small to get past those black bars of death resulting only a small part of the top of his antenai to be shown.
It seems that Funimation has lost their love for Ginu, what a pity

So now even Freeza curses a little bit. Honestly, with the 6 episode quasi-redub that concludes the Season Two set having no curse words whatstoever, I'd been considering that they were going to disappear altogether from here on out. Particularly the fact that some faux curse words were re-recorded (like how in Episode 67, Butta says "Damn you!" and in the very next episode it becomes "Darn it!" and "What the heck!" despite that Sabat came in to record over Mark Britten's lines) made me think that the full redub of the first two seasons was going to be known for being "particularly" potty-mouthed. But if they still have Vegeta damning things in Season Three, and now Freeza too, then that says awesome things for the potential of future sets. Hell, I can still hold out hope that Gohan might be swearing by the time we hit the Cell Game (when he really needs it).
What, they changed the 3rd Form voice? Aww, that's a little disappointing; I kinda liked it that way. It actually kinda helped augment the contrast between the 3rd and 4th form, IMHO. But eh . . . one step closer to the original version, I suppose.xzero next wrote:On another note, for those who haven't seen this set yet, Freeza's Form 3 voice is no longer the fusion-style voice combining the first and second form voices into a single audio track. Well, we all like to hear Christopher Sabat cursing . . . because we have heard the alternative.PrincessVegeta wrote:Hay guys I've finally got my boxset from Z Store and have seen a few episodes, from what I've seen so far is an almost faitful script to Funimations original one but with a few cuss words inputted every now and then such as Krilliuns "Oh crap" before Freeza transformes and Vegeta's "My God" after seeing Krilliun impaled on Freeza's horn. I kinda called this way back in July:
Christopher Sabat/Vegeta
Status of Episodes 68-74:
Vegeta was completely redubbed for these episodes. However, I think Sabat left grunts and groans from his original recording in spots during the final two . . . very strange.
Season Three predictions:
Given that he was willing to continue beyond the initial redub commitment and segue into what he's gone on record to claim as his least favorite arc of the series, I suspect that Sabat will bite the bullet and completely redub Vegeta throughout the remainder of the Freeza arc to give consistency and ultimately closure to the character. More cursing will be added to balance out a mostly unchanged script dialogue.
Whee, score another point for me!

Frankly, I like the mild cussing, because its somewhat more accurate to the subs. Has anyone ever noticed that damn is the most popular anime curse.... atleast in Gundam.

My favorite redub line was from the first one on the set, along the lines of, "Don't summon the Dragon or I'l get pissed off!"
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Because that's what most translators will use for "kuso" and the like, since while it literally means "excrement"/"shit," it's not as serious in the Japanese language as its literal counterpart is in English.TheMajinRedComet wrote:Frankly, I like the mild cussing, because its somewhat more accurate to the subs. No no, DM; I'm aware of that. Absolutely, they did; the characters were swearing almost constantly for the latter part of the 67 episode redub.Drunken Master wrote:Lemmy, Season 2 had a ton of curse words. Kuririn, Vegeta and Zarbon I know curse more than a few times.
I meant THIS, the portion of the set (Episodes 68-73) where the Texas cast have started to redub over their own recordings rather than Ocean's. I couldn't find a single curse word in there.Earlier in this thread, I wrote:Honestly, with the 6 episode quasi-redub that concludes the Season Two set having no curse words whatstoever, I'd been considering that they were going to disappear altogether from here on out.

Someone on the FUNimation forums who owns the set has given us this heads up.On the FUNimation DragonBall/Z/GT Forum, james_sagara wrote:The only people not re-recorded were: Goku, Piccolo, Nail, and King Kai.
How much confirmation do we have on this? Goku, Nail and Kaio-sama we're certain of, obviously (since Schemmel evidently chose non-participation again), but I thought Piccolo had been confirmed as at least partially re-recorded. Can anyone with the set compare some Piccolo samples and give us the story here?
Also, this person's implication of "just those characters" is a pretty big one (though perhaps a wee bit larger than he'd intended)-- it would indicate a possibility that "minor" characters like Yamucha, Tenshinhan and the Namekian Grand Elder were re-recorded. Do we have the status of Yamucha and Tenshinhan yet, or that question has just been floating around unanswered for the past few pages? I don't remember hearing anything resembing an answer.

Tien had to have been Re-Dubbed, it's a very good Burgmeier, sounds just like he has been. I believe when the Freeza Saga first started, there was someone else.
Oh and, I'm watching the episode when Freeza transforms into his 3'rd Form. Freeza is currently blasting Piccolo like crazy and I noticed something odd. Vegeta calls Krillin by his name 3 times. Did Vegeta say that in the old dub. It sounds out of place to hear him say "Krillin".
First is when Gohan takes off to save Piccolo and Krillin goes to do the same. Vegeta grabs him and yells "NO KRILLIN".
Next is moments later, he says "Come on Krillin, don't be a fool".
Finally is when he's thinking about Krillin beating him to within an inch of my life. He said "If Krillin can beat me to within an inch of my life...."

Awesome. I'm a big fan of Burgmeier's Tenshinhan, and even though that character's redub was basically a shoe-in, it's still nice to have solid confirmation at last.Lavender Saiyan wrote:Tenshinhan had to have been Re-Dubbed, it's a very good Burgmeier, sounds just like he has been. Chris Cason (Gluttony on Fullmetal Alchemist) was originally Tenshinhan during the Freeza saga.
HAH!! I don't think Vegeta called Kuririn by name three times during the entire dub the first time around. The first real instance I can remember of Sabat's Vegeta referring to Kuririn directly by name is when he tells him to destroy 18-- strangely enough, Ryo Horikawa's Vegeta does it, too.Lavender Saiyan next wrote:Oh and, I'm watching the episode when Freeza transforms into his 3'rd Form. When he tells Kuririn to destroy 18, Vegeta does in fact refer to Kuririn by name in both versions.Chuquita wrote:Now that I think about it (though I am half sleep-deprived at the moment) I don't think I ever recall Vegeta referring to anybody by their name aside from a select few (Kakarrotto, Bulma, Trunks, and Gohan).
Later on, an instance of indirect address occurs (again, in both versions) during the events with Babidi where Vegeta talks about . . .
Horikawa: "Piccolo and them"
Sabat: "Piccolo and Krillin"
. . . being turned to stone by Dabura because they were weak, and then later on he directly addresses Piccolo-- albeit just in his own mind (and in the original version only)-- with an inward "I'm counting on you, Piccolo" when he sends him away with Trunks and Goten.
But this business where Sabat's Vegeta is apparently saying "Krillin" every couple lines in the re-recorded Season Three makes no sense, even for dub Vegeta. It indicates a level of familiarity that Vegeta never allows himself to have with such "small fries" as Kuririn.

The subtitles are one of the only reasons that any fans of the Japanese version would ever get these sets. Also, they've always been one of the very few highlights of FUNi's DVDs as a whole. If they're suddenly being screwed up somehow, there's a problem.jjgp1112 wrote:That guy's too picky. Complaining about the subtitles? And why the hell would they end it during the Garlic Jr. Saga?
Oh, and about ending at the Garlic Jr. Saga? It'd make much more sense, well, because that's when the original season 3 broadcast season ended. It's also a good transition point between the end of the formal Freeza saga and the introduction of Trunks, which was the beginning of broadcast season 4.
Honestly, FUNi ended this set at a really stupid point, literally just a few episodes shy of the end of the Goku/Freeza fight. I mean, they could've at least ended it at episode 107 when everyone is wished back by the Dragonballs and it's revealed that Goku doesn't want to return to earth yet. That at least has some sense of finality, whereas ending it close to the end of the fight is retarded and sort of a kick in the balls to fans. They're labeling these as "season sets" when in reality they aren't following any particular "season" at all; they're just randomly cutting off the episode count at around 30-something episodes.
