Weren't you the one who listed the old TOEI VHS tapes as one of the releases with colors close to the Dragon Box? In that case, don't you feel just a tad bit hypocritical?

Not at all. Notice the key word, "degraded." VHS tape degrades with time and use, that's one of the main reasons DVD became widely accepted.

Now, if someone wants to show me one of the movies with a LD release that looks like FUNimation's new releases, then I'll own up to being wrong.

You can really see it there; they turned down the brightness. On the season sets they seemed to turn it up.

It's sad how much detail is lost here. Granted, FUNi's original releases had horrible edge enhancement (which makes the difference even more startling), but just looking at the remastered shots you can see the blurriness of the details. And just think, this is on downscaled screenshots (which means the detail is probably lacking even moreso at the native resolution).

And as a sidenote, had I never seen the R2 DVD's, I would have though Goku's undershirt was black most of the time :P

Seriously, IMO it's not half as bad as you say so, but in the end it's all about opinion. Goku's shirt could be green yellow blue black white. Whatever. In every version the colors are a bit different. Now if someone could tell me wich one is the real one, with proof...

The only shot that's REALLY bad there is the one with Goku's overly-orange pants. Even the single looks better'n that.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I seriously think that some of you guys just like to bash anything that Funi does, even if it isn't even bad.

I think I prefer the single there. Why's it so dark?

So did they zoom out on these? The Singles look like they're zoomed in closer than the remastered ones.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

Look at Goku's skin. See how in the "Remastered" version it looks like he's made of plastic? To me, that looks bad. Playing aimlessly with contrast, color saturation and DVNR processing makes an inferior product. Especially when your aim is to make an HD master.

Aside from that, I wasn't aware that FUNimation only did DragonBall, which are practically the only releases of theirs that I have serious issues with :P

Goku's skin color is the only thing I have issue with. Compared to the Movies Dbox the remastered movies are okay.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I honestly don't know why people are saying that the detail is blurred out. Look at the two SSJ Close-up shots. They look the same except with different colors.

Look at the blood, you can see the loss of detail there.

Dude, we already seen that the remastered releases colors are very similar to the Dragon Box, especially in that shot...

YES! There is blurring in the FUNI version! People that can't see it either need their displays adjusted or eyes checked (or possibly just a larger display). The Noise Reduction process FUNI uses to get rid of film-grain gets rid of detail too.

Here are both versions zoomed in for you guys who can't see it. But there are apparently others who can see it without zooming in.

I understand where you're coming from, but when you need to zoom in to such a close, pixelated level to even be able to tell... I think that's bordering on the level of "insignificant." :?

That post really had me laughing. You go through all that just to justify silly complaints.
