Same here, hell, I even canceled my order from Amazon just to get it cheaper. About it arriving early I doubt that it would be earlier than Amazon which almost always ships pre-orders a week before their street date.DB_Fan1991 wrote:I just pre-ordered the Dragon Box at Rightstuf. Alright, as utterly lame as this is going to make me sound, I've never done an online pre-order before. I always order things after they're released, or simply go out and buy them. As such, I have a few questions for a pre-ordering newbie like myself.
For one, is the price of the item deducted from your account when you place the pre-order, or when the item is ready to ship?
Two, and this is generally more geared toward Rightstuf's shipping of pre-ordered material, if the release dates does end up being December 15th, that's right in the middle of finals week for me. I wanted to get it shipped to my dorm, not my house. Chances are I'll still be around since it's only the Tuesday of that week, but just to be safe, how early does Rightstuf typically send pre-orders?

I would recommend talking to a representative over the phone about this rather than doing it online. This way, you can ensure that when the order is placed, it will be sent to the proper dorm. You may also have to give the representative instructions on how either UPS or FedEx or whatever other deliverymen will deliver the order. Would the deliverymen be capable of going through the front doors? Or would they have to deal with security personnel first? Be specific as possible if you want to ensure a 100% delivery.Char Aznable wrote:Two, and this is generally more geared toward Rightstuf's shipping of pre-ordered material, if the release dates does end up being December 15th, that's right in the middle of finals week for me. For my campus, a package is delivered to the dorm hall itself and is kept on the first floor in the administrative offices. Desk workers write the names of people who have packages in, and the person can just tell the desk worker that they're here to pick up their package, they sign for it, and that's it.Choujin Daizenshuu wrote:I would recommend talking to a representative over the phone about this rather than doing it online. I probably should have been more specific there. I meant dorm hall, since there's no way to get it delivered to an individual room. My problem is really just whether or not I'll actually be around to pick up my package.

If the deliverymen were to leave the packages with the administrative office, you could just pick up the package once you are available.Char Aznable wrote:I probably should have been more specific there. But it depends, what is the office's time policy in holding received packages?
I wouldn't have it sent to your dorm. Seriously. My parents sent me a birthday card in October, and the dorm staff lost it. Finally, when they were cleaning up over the summer, it was found and returned to sender. Needless to say, I got a 9 month late birthday surprise. I was shocked that they didn't just throw it away.Char Aznable wrote:Alright, as utterly lame as this is going to make me sound, I've never done an online pre-order before. Have it sent to your parents house. Or, if you know someone who lives in an apartment or something nearby, ask them if you can have it sent there. It will be worth it just to be prevent negligent hall staff from losing it. Besides, you should be studying during finals week, not watching cartoons! What's wrong with you??

That's the thing, whenever I have a package shipped to school I'm around to pick it up the day it arrives. I'm not sure how long they're willing to hold on to it for, especially through all of Christmas break.Choujin Daizenshuu wrote:But it depends, what is the office's time policy in holding received packages?
For now, my solution is going to be to wait out the sale - it doesn't end until the 24th anyway - and see if any news comes forth about the release date. If I'm not charged until the item is shipped, even if I don't have the money for it now I should still be able to place the pre-order, so that's good.
Heh, trust me, I'm well-versed in the typical actions of negligent, ignorant, or at times just plain stupid university staff. However neither myself or any friends of mine have had problems with lost packages before, our mail system isn't too bad. Last year my roommate ordered an LCD monitor and a host of computer parts, and no problems there.gallagtor wrote:I wouldn't have it sent to your dorm. Seriously. Oh, college. You don't study during college, heh. Nah, I'd watch the first one or two episodes and leave the rest as an inspirational tool to get finals over with.gallagtor wrote:Besides, you should be studying during finals week, not watching cartoons! What's wrong with you??
Well, I suppose that cures my pre-order woes for now. Thanks, everyone!

If the order rep is going to be contacted with this information, have them send it off to Traffic or the appropriate Merchandise Coordinator who will in turn inform the deliverymen that the delivery of the goods to those particular locations will be A-OK. If the deliverymen will need to have the recipients of the package sign off for it, they want to make sure that the recipients are related to the customer who placed the order in the first place.gallagtor wrote:Have it sent to your parents house. Shipping errors are a bitch so ensure that you're getting the best service possible with as much info provided as you can.
Cool, I checked it out. Personally I hope the Japanese audio gets better than 192kbps. Giving us Japanese mono @ 448 kbps like on the DragonBoxes and the English stereo version at 192 @ kbps would be another nice way to give us JPN version fans the royal treatment we've been dying for. (and keeping the dub fans happy, since they probably don't care about audio bitratesVegettoEX wrote:If you're interested, we went in-depth with comparisons and speculation on this very subject on Episode #0184 of our podcast.EricM wrote:Does anyone know if they will just be copying and pasting the video and audio encodes, and just simply adding English subtitles and menus?
Reason I ask is because Japanese DVDs (and Blu-rays) usually have very high bitrate video encodes (and PCM audio often), would be a shame if Funimation did inferior video encodes to accommodate more dubs.
Additional wishful thinking is they will have the original mono as PCM instead of the Mono DD 2.0 @ 448kbps on the Japanese Dragon Boxes. 16-bit 1.0 PCM only takes up 768kbps, which is only 320kbps more than DD 2.0 @ 448kbps.
Even more wishful is that they would release it on Blu-ray
Grain is beautiful.

Does Rightstuf do the same thing that Amazon does, and not charge you for a preorder until it's shipped?
I'm just wondering, because I'm ordering stuff along with it, and ordering stuff on Amazon as well (which also includes a pre-order for a game). I'm just trying to make sure of how much money to save in the account and when.
This sale for Rightstuf I think only counts for a few newer titles. I'm getting Movie 10, and some Tenchi DVD's and the discount is only counting towards the Dragon Box. It might have something to do with the fact that each of those DVD's don't go over more than $4 each though.

In a ditch somewhere
You are charged when it ships. Which is good for me being as I don't have any money right now but will in the coming months. The sale counts for everything that isn't a Weekly Special or in Bargain Bin.nathantheguitarist wrote:Does Rightstuf do the same thing that Amazon does, and not charge you for a preorder until it's shipped?

The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Well, just made my pre-order at RightStuf. I figure we probably won't see a better price than $48 for quite a while. Had it shipped to my parent's house, since my college is only an hour or so away from home.
Can't say I've ever gotten anything early from them (Granted, I've only ever pre-ordered Gurren Lagann Pt. 3 from them, and that suffered from two or three delays anyways), but still, the chance to get it before the release date is a nice little bonus.
I have to say that I think FUNi shot themselves in the foot a little, though. I was all pumped to pick up DragonBall Season One immediately, but all that excitement has disappeared thanks to the DragonBox. I'm sure I'll get to it eventually, but the DragonBox is more of a priority now.
