As a dub fan I would hate having Freeza recast, it would just not feel like Freeza anymore. I got into the show around the Freeza arc and those specific memories of him and his voice stand out a lot, personally I think recasting him would be a bad move. However, Gohan's voice being changed wasn't as bad as I thought it may have been so who knows, maybe I'll adapt to a new Freeza voice if Linda Young is indeed recast.

There's more of an impact on the dub fans if Freeza's voice is changed than the sub fans if it isn't. Most of the sub fans are probably sticking to the original anyway seeing as the dub came too late.
Actions have reactions so don't be quick to judge, you may not know the hardships that people don't speak of.
Dub fan.

So, I'd like a recast, to give the character more respect and credibility.
Yeah, that's pretty much the reason I want him recast as well. My Dad always cracks jokes about "her" and says things like "she sure is mean isn't she?" in jest. He knows he is a male (we are at the Buu arc, so of course he knows because they refer to him by gender many times, but he was confused at first due to his 1st form appearance), but he always jokes about things, but it's annoying that his voice gives him a way to joke about Frieza's gender (if he didn't have the voice, I'm sure that impression of him being a female would have died out once he transformed).

I actually semi-enjoy the new dub. Colleen Clinkenbeard is doing an excellent job, and I actually believe her Gohan more than Stephanie Nadolny's. And the fact that they kept the original names for some of the attacks is pretty cool too.
I wipe it off the tile, the light is brighter this time, everything is 3D blasphemy.
My eyes are red and gold, the hair is standing straight up, this is not the way I picture me.
I can't control my shakes, how the hell did I get here? Something about this, so very wrong.
I have to laugh out loud, I wish I didn't like this. Is it a dream or a memory?

...the fuck was Piccolo's attack still called 'Special Beam Cannon' when he launched it, but the next episode when he explains to Gohan how his father is dead, in the sepia-toned flashback, it's 'Makkankosappo'...? *not a fan of inconsistency*

And... this would be a good thing. Which is why so many people want it so badly.
And even more people, don't want it. Look, I know more than anyone how unfitting the voice is for Freeza. If it's changed I'll eventually move on. But it doesn't change the fact that Linda Young's been doing the voice for 11 years now. It's not like 1999 when you only had a cast working on the series for 2 years. These voices are so engraved in peoples minds. Which is why Dub Character names won't go away (i.e. "Krillin").

It's because Makankosappo is the coolest word ever.

So I was watching the dub with my father tonight and he brought up something I didn't notice. He asked me why Goku didn't grab Raditz's tail instead of getting him into the grappling hold. I had to explain to him why not. It's really hard to notice these things when you just have the answers floating around in your subconscious. I think this just highlights how sloppy the early Kai episodes were. If a person who knows absolutely nothing about Dragon Ball can't follow the story because you're cutting out important pieces of information you've failed your job. Luckily they improve later on. Even rewatching these early episodes I notice how crummy the pacing is. I think early Kai put a bad taste in a lot of peoples mouths which is why there's a lot more hate for it then I think it deserves nowadays. It's kind of like the dub in that way huh?

They did this all the time with One Piece. They'll just slip in the original name every once in a while for the heck of it.

Why would it be? As I said in another thread, while I'm sure Nicktoons mandates what is to be edited for their network, I highly, highly DOUBT they do any of it themselves. In fact, I'd say I'm 99.9repeating% sure that, aside from their annoying credit crunching, they do none of the editing. They tell FUNimation this and this needs to be censored, and FUNimation makes a censored version that they hand off to the network. FUNimation even self-censored their own edited product back on CN beyond CN's censorship standards. I mean, honestly, do you think it was Nicktoons that digitally painted "Tenkaichi Budoukai" romanji over the kanji? Would they even have any idea what that means? Mark my words. That's FUNimation.

I think they're just making one syndication/network cut under the direction of 4Kids.
[quote="Brakus"]For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". Right. Nice catch. But my point remains the same: it's FUNimation who's actually making the broadcast edit.

They perform the editing, but they don't choose what gets cut. Though I can imagine they're playing it safe, ie if 4Kids says "too much blood" they just remove it all rather than leaving a few spots here and there. You know? I hope they'll lessen up a bit, but who knows?

Didn't watch it, but almost everyone here says during the flashback, Makankosappo made its way in.

Hmm, that's odd. Must have heard it wrong then. If something like that did happen, my brother would say something about it because he is the kind of person that will freak out over changes or inconsistencies like that. Or he just didn't hear it, too. :P But does sound like a major slip up on Funi's part. They could have just left it alone in the first place.

In response to Gaffer Tape: this is why I should just stay at OT.com... haha. Also, I'm pretty sure you're not the only one to report Makankosappo in the flashback.

Wait, is that referring to me or dragondyle? Because when did I report the Makankosappo? I never even saw the episode!
