Re: FUNimation DBZ TV Blu-ray Official On-Going Thread
According to Robert's Anime Corner Store, 2.2 got pushed all the way back to fucking June 19! At this point, I'm not going to even wait for a two-pack; I'm going to buy each set as it comes out.

Same. We all knew this was going to happen. I figured May, though, not June!

I guessed 2.1 and 2.2 wouldn't come out on the same day and that 2.2 would eventually get delayed. Although, with how quickly 1.1 and 1.2 got put out 2.1 and 2.2 seemed to be getting a pretty big delay.

This isn't good. Hopefully we'll see these getting released
Re: FUNimation DBZ TV Blu-ray Official On-Going Thread
Considering the push backs of Kai and the DBoxes, I don't see it as a big deal.

Re: FUNimation DBZ TV Blu-ray Official On-Going Thread
Maybe they aren't selling as well as they thought? I mean everyone is already buying their other dragon ball dvds and probably don't want to shell out more money for BD versions of Z? So many home video releases in the US, maybe the fans are tired of dragon ball? I still think Funi should spend more time and money on making One Piece the next DBZ in america.

Re: FUNimation DBZ TV Blu-ray Official On-Going Thread
Only problem is nobody want's to air or watch One Piece after the 4Kids fiasco. Sure there are some of us as Anime fans who would love for it to come back possibly uncut or only slightly censored like Z Kai on TV but it's just not going to happen.Android 50 wrote:So many home video releases in the US, maybe the fans are tired of dragon ball? The DVD sales are all they've got to keep the series alive and unless Funimation do like what Hasbro did with making their own TV network, One Piece has almost no chance of returning on TV.

FUNimation has their own channel here in the US. http://funimationchannel.com/Gonstead wrote:... unless Funimation do like what Hasbro did with making their own TV network, One Piece has almost no chance of returning on TV.

Uh, er... what? You realize it aired on Fox Box in 2004? It's 2012... that's 8 years ago. Much like DBZ Kai, it's ripe for a whole new batch of kids who were barely alive the first time to get into it. This is especially true because it doesn't even look as dated as DB Kai.Gonstead wrote:Only problem is nobody want's to air or watch One Piece after the 4Kids fiasco. Nick and these other stations could probably give a flying fig about where it aired before and what was done to it at this point. They likely don't even remember it. I think the chances of One Piece airing or not airing have more to do with money, Toei's requirements, and just how many episodes Funimation themselves have edited for BS&P at this point. At what point did they give up and just focus on the uncut dub, y'know? That sort of thing.

One Piece stopped airing in 2008 when it used to be a part of Cartoon Network back when Funimation was putting out the censored dub (Zolo, no smoking, no religious names etc)Ashura wrote:Uh, er... what? It was only after that where One Piece was canceled that they went back and redubbed everything 4Kids did. No network wanted the show either so Funimation's main focus was on the Uncut DVD's.
The amount of editing needed for it to air TV wouldn't really warrant the effort either (Removing Blood, Smoking, Cursing, Drinking etc), especially if it backfires again and Funimation will just lose out even more money for the wasted time and effort if that does happen.

Re: FUNimation DBZ TV Blu-ray Official On-Going Thread
It failed on Cartoon Network because of wrong time-slot and anime dying on Cartoon Network by that point anyway because of the awful line-up Toonami had by that point. It should have came on weekday afternoons like the old Toonami block. As for the costs, well its all about taking risk. If it sales so "well" without exposure imagine the money it would be bringing in with a TV spot on Nick or Disney. Not like they didn't take the same risk for DB way back in the late 90s.

Re: FUNimation DBZ TV Blu-ray Official On-Going Thread
Not exactly. Yes, Toonami at the point was close to ending forever, but OP still got decent ratings. CN expected to get Naruto ratings right after the change in production, which it failed to do that.Android 50 wrote:It failed on Cartoon Network because of wrong time-slot and anime dying on Cartoon Network by that point anyway because of the awful line-up Toonami had by that point. This was stated earlier, but in my opinion, I gladly welcome rereleases of Dragon Ball Z. It's how they raise money to buy new stuff like One Piece episodes.Android 50 wrote:Maybe they aren't selling as well as they thought? Re: FUNimation DBZ TV Blu-ray Official On-Going Thread
As the word goes, Toei stopped paying FUNimation to make the edits to episodes after the US CN stopped airing new episodes, so CN of Australia began getting mostly uncut episodes of the Skypeia arc. FUNi likely has TV audio for episodes from the Skypeia arc, but otherwise they'd still have to go back and make a bunch of additional edits. If we're to believe FUNimation they just produce the dub and Toei shops it around to networks, so the ball is in their court.Ashura wrote: Nick and these other stations could probably give a flying fig about where it aired before and what was done to it at this point. I remember. It was there and gone in the blink of an eye almost, not heavily promoted, not reran, finished its run in Australia, etc. etc. I doubt it was in the consciousness of kids, and if they got a TV deal, it would easily look like a whole new show.Gonstead wrote:One Piece stopped airing in 2008 when it used to be a part of Cartoon Network back when Funimation was putting out the censored dub (Zolo, no smoking, no religious names etc)
That's interesting. Is there a link to more information about this? I don't want to derail the thread; so you can PM if need be.JulieYBM wrote:As the word goes, Toei stopped paying FUNimation to make the edits to episodes after the US CN stopped airing new episodes, so CN of Australia began getting mostly uncut episodes of the Skypeia arc. On topic: uh...buy official releases, kids!
For the sake of keeping continuity in the thread, I don't have the link on hand. It's buried under (litterally) thousands of posts from three or four years back on a certain popular One Piece forum.Ashura wrote:That's interesting. Is there a link to more information about this? Re: FUNimation DBZ TV Blu-ray Official On-Going Thread
A strange request from me:
Can anyone upload a screenshot from the Edited 1-53 Ocean Dub, preferebly a screenshot from a scene that we can compare with one of the Blu-ray screens?
I really like the colour correction on the Blu-Rays and they seem close to the original. I could swear I've seen Dbz before in these colours (specifically the blue sky), and if my memory serves me well it was ten years ago on Cartoon Network, and the clips I later watched of the 1-53 Ocean dub. If I'm right it makes me wonder which source material was used for this dub? Or was it simply very contrasted?
