If Goku dies and Gohan is not the main character then I'm convinced someone at Toei has some seething hatred of Gohan.

Gohan has had more screen time in the anime than the manga. They wrote him returning to training into the F arc, had him training with Piccolo in the beginning of the Champa arc and gave him a few appearances in the Future Trunks arc while in the manga they've said nothing of him returning to training and as far as I remember he hasn't even shown up in the Future Trunks arc. If anything I think that Toei wants Gohan to be used, but Toriyama isn't giving them anything and Toyotaro isn't bothering to add Gohan stuff to the manga.

While the title mentions Goku's death, I think something might be up. Goku mentioned he knew someone was out to get him and that he didn't felt any ki but knew someone was right there. Hit, as far as we know, doesn't have a way to travel to Universe 7. This might be a fake death or something like that.

The preview reminded me of Eat-man and other animes like it.

The person who hired him knows about Goku, so maybe they have a way to travel between universes and they give that transportation to Hit.

What I think would happen is that some god of destruction (maybe universe 10 one) watched the whole u6 tournament thing on kamitube and realized that Goku could be too strong to deal with him so he hired Hit to kill him before the 12 universes tournament so he doesn't get on his way but that's just a theory that will probably end up failing as always.

I know this will most likely not happen, but in my head these guys could have similar genes... (I'm going to guess the masks are to protect them against pollution, after seeing their city)

That's actually vegeta and trunks' new Super saiyan transformation.

Vegeta wouldn't get focus over the main character's son.

He's been getting that since the final fight with Super Buu.

Yeah, Vegeta is literally the second main character in Super.
I still hope Gohan does something, he doesn't necessarily need a win, but at least give him a good fight.

IF this is Toriyama's next arc then there's a chance he could get a similar role to Future Trunks and maybe help Vegeta (and Beerus ?) take down Hit or whoever hired him.

There's no "if", this isn't his big next arc. The new arc will be revealed on the 17th or 18th, it wouldn't make sense for it to be something that we've already known about for a while.
