Eh, I'm disappointed that they added Z to it. It just sounds weird, and, based on the fighting that's already gone on on this forum, it seems like a bad precedent in light of the hopes of a more accurate dub if they've already changed the name. Now a whole new generation of dub fans are going into it not even knowing what the name of the show is.

As for the dub, I'll probably never watch it regardless of quality. But I would like an accurate dub just so those who do only watch the English version might actually be able to know what the show is supposed to be. That will reduce all the big fights of dubs vs. subs, less misinformation flying around, and just a happier, more knowledgeable community all around.

As for the cast, I actually don't mind Linda Young's Freeza, amazingly. She's no Ryusei Nakao, but I've never minded her. Never minded Schemmel either. I think he's gotten better. As long as they throw him off of Kaio, which I consider to be the absolute worse voice in the dub. Sabat as Piccolo and Vegeta annoys me quite a lot as well.

I guess that's a good point I never really thought of. Even if I don't get an English dub that pleases me, at least with a more accurate script, the dub fans will finally be getting the story as it's intended. I should be happy about that.

Sorry, I know you like the cast, but I know a LOT of people who hate Dub Freeza, so to say only "5 or 10 people" would be happy with that is just wrong.

The fact of the matter is: In the Japanese Version they replaced Nappa, The Ginyu Special Corps, and Dende, and that's just off the top of my head and excluding the voices that were replaced due to the original's passing.

In the English Version, Cell is going to be replaced, possibly with Travis Willingham (If he's the official replacement, and it wasn't just for that one game)

We're not asking for much, I think anyone who expects the Majority of the main characters to get a VA replacement is asking waaaaaaay too much, but Freeza and at least a few of Sabat's Minor roles, and Maybe Yamucha, need to be replaced. And even if he stays as Yamucha, he needs to drop the "Surfer Tude".

Also, about that DBox vs. Kai Pic, I know I'll get lynched for this, but the Kai one looks a LOT better to me. It really looks much more cleaned up and clearer.
Wait, what? Dameon isn't coming back?

Shit. :x

While it's not as strong in Japanese, both interpretations give Freeza some feminine qualities. His characteristics, his tone, his look, they all carry strong qualities from both genders. So I could see how people mistake him as a girl. However like SSJmole said, if you watch more than five minutes of the series they tell you he is male.
"Only five minutes"? Every person I've ever talked to about Dragon Ball with (in real life) has thought Freeza was female. Even my friend Daryk, whom has watched every episode of DB and DBZ, still calls Freeza "her". He actually knows the show better than I do. SO... they need to replace Linda Young.

They need a man to play freeza. Having a woman play Freeza is like having a woman play Frank N. Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show; the character just loses its affect. :(
SSJmole wrote:Also King Cold saying "son".
So? He talks about his nails like a girl and looks like he's wearing lipstick. When my friend first started watching the show, he thought Freeza was Goku's angry wife. Lol.

Well, I was thinking back to when Zarbon was alive, but yeah! Haha!

By the way, I read that in MasakoX's Goku voice.

I very much doubt every person you've talked about Dragon Ball with in real life was very many. Even if it was hundreds it's still not close to the amount of people that watch the dub version, you can't draw a conclusion that they need to replace Frieza just from that. You say they need to replace Linda Young, it's not a necessity, it's your opinion.

As for me, I like Frieza's voice the way it is, I always knew he was a male regardless of his "nail varnish" and "lip-stick" thing. The voice: it didn't even come to mind for me that Frieza sounded like a girl.

EDIT: Yours truly has just realised that my Frieza is turned to Freeza. :(

Sadly that's not very likely. But if you've played Raging Blast, Travis does a really good job immitating Dameon. Especially on the 1'st and Perfect forms. His 2'nd wasn't that good...But hell that voice sucked to begin with, lol.

Well I'm also saying that Linda Young is a poor choice for a voice actor. Even for FUNimation's transvestite version of Freeza. He's supposed to sound like a womanly man, not a manly woman. I'm not saying Freeza HAS to be voiced by a man to be good, I just think it would be better. But even if he's still to be voiced by a woman, I don't think Linda Young suits him. The voice is just too grating.

I think that could've been assumed in the first place. We know that there's no literal need to replace Linda Young unless some circumstance that keeps her from reprising her role has taken place without us noticing it. I figured that it was just a very strong way to word an opinion and I'm pretty sure most other people read it that way, too.

Yes, yes it is cool. But it's not that unlikely that they'd replace her. I can also imagine them replacing Kaio's voice actor. And though, it's probably not going to happen, I'd like to have a new voice actress for Gohan. At least till he's ten or however old he is against Cell.

I wonder who'll replace Schemmel now that he's no longer a part of FUNimation. I know he's been doing the games lately, but this is different. It's a hundred episode show, not some quick video game recording session.

I'm on the fence as to rather I want to buy these or not.

I still need to collect Funi's Dragonbox Z releases.

Ryusei Nakao sounds like a badass intergalactic, aristocratic pimp as Freeza in the Japanese version. They should shoot for the same thing in the English dub of Kai, but if Linda Young stays I don't mind.

Yeah this announcement IMO was a tad too early, they could have waited for a couple for Dragon Boxes to have been released, or at least until Dragonball Kai ended in Japan.

Well, I am with the majority here that if there is one voice the FUNi really needs to recast its gotta be Freeza's.
Also, I like Sabat but his Vegeta? Oh man it's gotta end now, I mean when I heard Horikawa as him I was shocked because he actually sounded bad ass.
Though, I say let him keep Piccolo, just down play the gruffness of the voice. (Though yes, he'd sound like Zoro a bit more).
Other top of my head recast may be Older Gohan, maybe get Chris Patton.

God, I hope he doesn't make his Piccolo sound more like Zoro. I liked his performances in Burst Limit and Raging Blast as opposed to his narration for Dragon Box 2.

I don't want to be taken out because I think I keep hearing Zoro.

Well, for the Dragon Box Trailers, I'm sure Chris Sabat was just phoning it in.
